2 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/25/2025

On [xxx], the vehicle was involved in a complex multi-impact accident. It was struck by a vehicle on the passenger (right) side and, simultaneously, by another vehicle on the driver's (left) side. (police report). During this sequence of collisions, and despite the magnitude of the impact, I must express my extreme concern that the left side airbag (driver's side) did not deploy. This failure caused mr. [xxx] , the undersigned, to suffer a neck injury as a direct consequence of the incident. Even more seriously, the right-side passenger, ms. [xxx] , sufferedsevere internal injuries, including three small intestine perforations, according to medical reports. These injuries resulted from improper pressure or malfunction of the seatbelt for that seat. These combined failures, the non-deployment of an essential airbag in impact, and the serious internal injuries caused by the seatbelt represent unacceptable deficiencies in the vehicle's safety systems. We believe that these injuries could have been avoided or mitigated if the safety components had functioned properly, as expected in an accident situation of this magnitude. Therefore, I am at a loss to understand: 1. Why the left side airbag did not deploy during the impact. 2. Why the right passenger seatbelt caused such serious internal injuries, including the three diagnosed intestinal perforations. We also require that concrete and immediate action be taken to address and compensate for the serious injuries suffered by the vehicle's occupants, as this has caused psychological and work- related harm. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/20/2025

My grandchild just went from a car seat to a booster seat. The back seatbelt buckle is so recessed that you cannot buckle it without 20 minutes of fighting with it! this is a major problem because a child could not get themselves buckled. And it takes an adult 20 minutes to try and buckle the shoulder belt into the seat buckle because it’s so recessed in the backseat. I looked on the internet to see if there was a way to loosen the belts or extend them from the back and there is nothing so I went to a Hyundai Tucson forum and I see there have been many complaints about the recessed seat buckle not being accessible. This is a major concern for anyone transporting children and their grand grandchildren. I’ve already complained to Hyundai about the car randomly shutting off. Hyundai needs to put out a fix for this or provide Hyundai owners with some kind of extension for that buckle. I also understand that taking it into the dealership didn’t help, because they couldn’t buckle it either.

6 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/22/2024

When driving this car it is hard to go to higher speed. Acceleration is a huge problem. Coming on to the highway I have to wait until there's no one approaching due to the fact that it takes about 40 seconds to a minute for the car to accelerate once it comes to a stop. When switching lanes it takes 40 to 60 seconds to accelerate as well. That's not safe. God forbid someone was speeding directly behind me I would absolutely be hit. It takes to long to accelerate and get out of the way. I was nearly hit by a semi truck due to this problem. Thank goodness the truck moved to the other lane because the tuscon couldn't! also the car won't allow you to close off the outside air while if the front or rear air function. So if I want to place air on the windshield I have to breathe in the air from the person in front tailpipe. That's crazy. This is the first car I've had that did this. It's disgusting especially living in NY why should I have to breathe in that toxin. Also I can not find the third seat belt for the passengers in the back. The car is suppose to be a five passenger car however only four can safely be seated.

7 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/14/2024

The driver side and center seat belts in the back seat don’t secure. The buckle just slides back out. They’ve apparently been like that since I bought the car in 2020 and just recently had a passenger in one of those seats.

8 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

The rear seatbelt twists and jams when fully extended to secure a car seat or child in a booster seat. When we took the new car (less than a week after purchasing it)to the dealership to repair the jammed seatbelt, the gentleman in the service department stated that he sees this quite often and that you have to be careful when extending to seatbelt fully to prevent it from twisting and jamming.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/21/2023

Due to the design of the middle seat belt receiver it is impossible to install any type of car seat using the seat belt. The receiver is so long, you cannot get the seat belt tight enough to prevent movement of the car seat. There are no anchors for the middle seat either to use the latch system instead of the seatbelt, and anchors cannot be borrowed from the other sides as per the owners manual. Furthermore when a passenger sits in the middle seat, the receiver is on their lap, not down by their hip. This is not only uncomfortable, but I feel like the seat belt is not worn properly. One week after leasing the vehicle I went back to the dealership and was told there was nothing they could do about it. No help was offered. I reached out to Hyundai on my own.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

The contact's daughter owned a 2007 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at approximately 45–50 mph, she rear-ended another vehicle. The seat belt did not restrain the daughter in the seat, causing her chest to strike the steering wheel and her head to strike the front windshield. Additionally, the air bags did not deploy upon impact. The daughter received medical attention for a fractured sternum and bruising of the lungs. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was caused by excessive force upon braking. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The VIN was unavailable.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/29/2022

Drivers seat, seat belt at the lap tightens while driving to the point it is brusing hip bones. Even if someone loosens it, the seat belt automatically tightens up to the point it is dangerous in a collision because it can cause internal injuries or more severe injuries. The seat belt design is flawed in that it pulls extra belt from only from the top, so the bottom of the lap belt is fixed and that part is getting too tight and cannot be consistently comfortable or loose enough that it does not bruise or cause injuries to hips and laps. The issue has been ongoing and a major concern. I have contacted Hyundai who said it may or may not be under warranty but expected for me to pay for a visit to the shop to find out when this is a safety issue. Secondly the headlight system keeps failing. What I mean is the left driveres low beam/regular headlight continually burns out despite replacement with new bulbs. The passenger side lo beam/ regular headlight burned out recently and when replaced with the correct light bulb the regular setting for headlights no longer adequately lights the road despite bulbs being installed correctly and exactly as instructed. The lights now face down and are very low. We have changed out the bulbs with different brands and have found the same issue so it has to be an issue with the headlights themselves.

2015 Hyundai Tucson. Seat belt retractor mechanism to locked up, due to the vehicle being in an accident before the consumer took ownership. The consumer stated when he entered the vehicle, he discovered the seat belt would not retract. It would only come out about six inches and then lock. He removed the plastic cover on the lower section of the b pillar and found several parts of the retractor laying in the bottom of the pillar. The consumer was informed the vehicle was in a previous accident, and as a result, the seat belt pre-tensioner would have deployed. The consumer stated if a vehicle is in an accident, the pretension engages the lock up mechanism and ultimately, the entire seat belt unit would need to be replaced. 23 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

After reading about the Hyundai sonatas probe (2006 - 2008), I believe the probe should expand to include my 2006 Hyundai tuscon. Since January of 2014, my passenger seat indicator light ( on the dash board) has been on saying "passenger air bag off". Even when someone is present in the seat and the seat belt is fastened. I took the car to my Hyundai dealer and they told me a sensor in the buckle has gone out and the air bag will not deploy if needed. They told me the replacement cost in $600, which I can not afford to have replaced. This leaves my family in danger if an accident should occur.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

After reading in the papers about 2006-200 sonatas having an issue with the air bag sensor inside the seat belt buckle, I believe it should also include the tuscan. Ive had this issue for some time now and was told by the dealership that it was not covered under warranty. The air bag will not deploy in an event of an accident on the passenger side. This seems to be a sensor issue I am sure Hyundai is aware about.
