I leased a 2016 Hyundai Tucson from metcalf auto plaza [xxx]. Every week since then I have had to return the car for repairs. It got to a point where neil suggested he can trade it for another but each and every vehicle I test drove to replace my car was not ready to be on the road but according to them every car had just got out the shop. Instead of trying to have issues resolved the mechanics decide to make "jokes" as if your pain and suffering is a joke. Since I did not want a trade in and wanted my car fixed instead neil tried to tell me that this was my final offer which I declined because why not just fix my car? I went to talk to neil in person September 9, 2025 about getting my car fixed and the frustrations I am having because having to return the car weekly and I havent had it for a month is outrageous. [xxx] I was driving the Hyundai on the highway with my children in the car and the electricity to the car completely cut off but came right back on, I got off the highway and the car did it again and this time the wheel locked up and I almost wrecked the car. I called metcalf and the only thing they could tell me was they can tow my car to metcalf but me and my children had to find our own means of transportation. Every time I called to have my car serviced and told them about what I would hear and feel they could never make the car "do it again". I am beyond frustrated, upset and terrified because I have been telling them about smoking coming from the engine, rattling noise etc. My kids lives were put in danger and the only thing they could say was "I apologize and we can tow the car to the shop". Did not care if we had transportation and have never offered to give us any after continously getting stranded in the car. Now the car is towed to their shop once again and the car wouldnt even turn over for me to get it out of the middle of the street. I was blocking traffic and had to have the police block information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia).

On long road trip from TX to MA started before dawn and route initially [xxx] . With sunrise route was into sun and so I used my sun glasses. Within a few minutes a warning gong and light on instrument panel litup. I did not know what the cause was and then unannounced the adaptive cruise control lane holding and steering shut off and the vehicle seemed to brake quite vigorously. There were a few cars behind me and due to my vehicle suddenly slowing down they had to brake unexpectedly. They then honked at me and passed quite aggressively and gesturing their displeasure with me. I called Hyundai tech support they where of no help. I asked for a manager - who called back and I was told it is because I used my sun glasses! I was told it would always happen if sunglasses where used and I could not cancel this feature without disabiling the "safety" features that I considered when purchasing the vehicle on 24th [xxx]. I was told I should not use polarized glasses which my pair is not in any event. I requested to speak to a more senior rep and the next day received call from a Hyundai rep who stated there was nothing I could to over come this nuisance feature and if I didnt like it I should not have bought the car. I stated I did not know this could or would happen ! in addition every 5 to 10 minutes a warning gong, light and speech notice keeps on popping up and states "I need a rest". In my opinion too, it is also a safety issue as it is a nuisance and consistant and at inopportune times blocking gps commands some times etc. These features, in my opnion, are too frequent too persistant and not helpful. There should be a way for the owner-drver too disable the announcements but have the benefit of the features ie adaptive cruise lane and steering etc without the car deciding not to allow because sunglasses are needed. That does not enhance safety in my opinion. In my opinion the way it is programmed it is a safety hazard just suddenly slowing down information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informa.
My Tucson was involved in a mva. I was hit in the rear end by another SUV on the rear back passenger side of the vehicle. During impact, the steering wheel literally detached from the dashboard in my driver's hands leaving us with no way to steer or maneuver the vehicle. The result of this safety failure could have lead to serious injury or death of myself, my driver or anybody in the path of the vehicle. We did have hit anything. There is zero front or side damage to the Tucson. No airbags deployed, not even the one in the steering wheel. There were no warning lights or anything indicating there was a problem w the vehicle. I called the dealership and filed a complaint with Hyundai consumer affairs. They had an inspector go inspect the vehicle and followed up w a letter stating the vehicle did as it was designed to. The vehicle was deemed a total loss from my insurance company. It is currently sitting in impound and unsure if it is available for future inspection. There was zero issues with the vehicle prior to this incident other than a stone chip to the windshield that was due to be replaced. This vehicle was only 5 months old.
On June 29, 2025, while driving a 2023 Hyundai Tucson sel, the steering wheel suddenly and completely detached from the steering column and ended up in the driver's lap. This sudden and absolute loss of steering control is a catastrophic failure of a primary safety system that placed the driver's life and potentially the lives of others in immediate and extreme peril. It was only due to sheer luck that the vehicle was brought to a stop without an accident or injury. Following the incident, due to fear and anxiety, the driver is now in treatment and has been unable to work. The vehicle was transported to ron marhofer Hyundai on the same day. The following day, the driver was met with a profound lack of respect and professionalism from the service advisor, declan mccready. The driver and her mother were implicitly told they did not know what they were talking about and were treated with a profound lack of respect. The service advisor initially asserted there was no warranty coverage for the issue and that it would cost nearly $500. 00 to fix. He also claimed his entire shop of mechanics looked at the car and found nothing was broken. However, the very next day, the dealership abruptly reversed their diagnosis and instructed the driver to get a rental car, stating they would now be fixing the vehicle under warranty. The repair order confirms the technician's findings: "verified concern steering column separated stopped bracket bent and separated replaced column housing operating normal". The vehicle had 14,479 miles at the time of the failure. There were no prior warnings or symptoms before the incident.

The power steering of the vehicle suddenly stopped working. We had the car towed, and after inspection we were told that the steering column had failed. We were expected to purchase a new original part from Hyundai, which we did. After waiting a week, we were told that the replacement that was sent did not work and was defective. This has happened again and again, and we are currently waiting for our 4th part from Hyundai. Hyundai corporate told our auto shop that they "opened a case" to see why these parts are defective. I'm hoping that they eventually get to the bottom of this and can fix our tuscan. We were lucky that our steering column failed on the driveway at our home, but I would imagine it could case quite a bad accident if power steering went out suddenly on someone else.

I leased a brand new 2025 Hyundai Tucson on March 15, 2025, with fewer than 10 miles on the odometer. Shortly after driving an additional 10 miles, the vehicle’s screen malfunctioned, displaying burn-in and becoming non-functional. This issue significantly affects safety, as it renders the backup camera unusable during operation. The vehicle was first brought in for service on March 17, 2025, but the issue was not resolved. Subsequent service attempts were made on March 20, April 9, and most recently on April 11, 2025. As of today, the problem remains unresolved. The vehicle has been in the service center for approximately 15 days since the date of purchase. In addition to the defective screen, the vehicle failed to start on one occasion, leaving me stranded alone in a parking lot, stuck in accessory mode with the brake locked. The car has also exhibited alignment issues, consistently pulling to the left while driving, which has required two alignments since the purchase date.
56310-d3050 steering column assembly 56400-d3000 steering joint assembly steering wheel would jerk hard enough to lose grasp of it. Hyundai dealer confirmed steering column assembly was "faulty". "faulty" steering column assembly was replaced by Hyundai dealership. No warning lights.

1. After driving the car and turning it off, I get a loud bang coming from a gas tank. 2. Sometimes when making a hard right or left turn steering wheel vibrates, and the warning light for all wheel drive system comes on. When I turn the car off and restart it, it goes away. 3. After software installs due to recalls, when I accelerate my radio occasionally shuts off on its own, and then we’ll come back on on its own. 4. After turning the car off when I restart it occasionally the clock in calendar revert to 00:00 for the time and the date resets to 1/1/20.
The mdps sensor is faulty and the electronic power steering shut down on my wife while she was driving on the highway.

The rear passenger control arm broke off of the subframe due to severe corrosion despite Hyundai applying a corrosion preventative under recall 17-01-013 on 12/1/2015. During all service work following the preventative in 2015, corrosion was never brought up as a concern by the dealership (we have all service records since date of initial purchase). Thankfully we had just reached our destination and were parking the car when the failure happened. Had the part failed 5 minutes earlier, we would have been on the highway at over 60mph and could have been seriously injured or worse. We had our Tucson towed to the dealership for repair as well as additional recall work under campaign 952 for corrosion of the fuel band. We were contacted by the dealership on 8/22/24 and told that the new subframe could not be installed as the corrosion was so severe, the body mounts had also corroded away so there was nothing to attach the new subframe to. The dealership advised us that our Tucson is now totaled and it is solely due to corrosion that Hyundai has been aware of and has been subject to multiple class action lawsuits over it. This is absolutely unacceptable. This car is still in perfect mechanical condition and the exterior has absolutely zero rust but now it can no longer be driven due to Hyundai’s shoddy subframes.

When driving all the warning light is on. Also when you reduce speed or stop at the light the steering wheel turn hard to turn or move. The battery seem to be low voltage, because when you lock the car the sound of the horn sound weak. And wouldn't start.
2020 Hyundai tuscon may I have had numerous incidents where my stereo navigation screen goes black, and then instantly comes back. This happens frequently; whether or not my phone is plugged in. I have stopped plugging my phone into the car. May 1, 2024 as I was backing into my garage this afternoon I started the turn to get into my driveway. I turned the steering wheel tight and it seemed to lock up just like the car had turned itself off. My vehicles main screen went blank along with the stereo navigation. May 16 2024 as I backed into my driveway and straightened my steering wheel position to get into the garage the vehicle screen went black along with the navigation stereo screen I felt the steering wheel tug a little bit along with a knocking noise all lighting quickly came back and then the same exact thing happened again. I then finished backing in and turned the car off. May 18 my husband and I went to the market 1 mile away and as he was backing into the driveway at home the steering wheel locked up then the stereo navigation screen went black and we heard bumping sounds same as before. This happened numerous times in a row going in reverse and forward and we were able to get two videos. After we got the car parked in the garage we tried to open the back hatch to get the groceries out and we were unable to do so manually or with the key fob. At that time, we then noticed that the entire electrical system was down. I then sat in the front seat, tried to turn the car on and it was completely unresponsive. A few seconds later, we were able to open the back hatch along with turning the car on. At this point, we decided to have the car towed in as opposed to driving it in to have it looked at. We have videos of the issue as it happens. But cannot upload to your site.

My vehicle had been in the shop for 30 day due to engine shutdown in the middle of the road, I barely was able to get vehicle off the road and avoid oncoming traffic. I got my vehicle back and driven it a total of 40 minutes within a 3 day time period. During my drive to work my vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway and would not turn on again. My concerns are not being taken seriously with Hyundai and it is a disaster waiting to happen. I have a one year old daughter and I can not risk her safety as well as the other on-coming people on the road when it quits and oncoming traffic has to swerve to not t-bone me. Hyundai will not take any action to correct this other than giving it a temporary fix of a 45 minute drive before they allow me to get back on the road and put myself and others at risk of injury.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? steering column. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? steering column would not disengage and remained locked up after the vehicle was started and in gear. This have caused me to almost get into a few collisions for the same issue. I have had friends and family, most recently my daughter, in the vehicle when these issues have occurred. I have almost collided with walls, cars, etc due to this issue. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no. Despite the numerous videos I have presented documenting these incidents, they state they have been unable to reproduce. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? manufacture has not inspected the vehicle and keeps sending me to the local dealership where the vehicle was purchased from. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes. During the issues where the steering column does not unlock or disengage, it displays a yellow light with a car and key symbol in it. During other issues I have experienced with this vehicle (phantom braking, acceleration / power issues, random dash controls turning on, and the electric e-brake failing to properly disengage, there have been no lots on the dash that were noticeable. Restarting the vehicle tends to rectify the issue.

Pronounced rattle from the steering column (not the wheel) when going over a rough surface. Vehicle has only 49,000 miles on it. Hyundai dealer checked and determined the rattle was not a safety issue and said a small plastic piece in the steering mechanism had broken and quoted a repair cost of over $1,000. I do not believe the dealership's diagnosis, nor its' safety assessment and believe they are simply avoiding a repair that should be covered under the vehicle's soon to expire warranty!.
Internal engine failure; no compression cylinder. My vehicle was affected by the Tucson dual clutch transmission reprogramming recall. In higher ambient temperatures and specific operating conditions, the transmission clutch application logic can result in a delayed engagement when accelerating from a stop, and the vehicle would not accelerate. Inability to move the vehicle in traffic. The car is well maintained and in excellent shape. They estimated the cost to replace the engine at $14,000! and Hyundai dealer larry miller denied any help with the repair cost.
Serious safety hazard: 2024 Hyundai Tucson power steering failures I have had numerous power steering failures while this driving vehicle. During these incidents, the steering wheel is extremely difficult to turn. This is a serious safety hazard which could lead to a severe accident and loss of life. During each incident occurrence, I noted a red steering wheel with an exclamation point was displayed on the dashboard. The power steering function is restored once I have found a safe location to pull the car off the road and then I reset the car by switching it off completely and then starting it again. My local dealer has not been able to duplicate the problem nor determine the root cause. The dealership has escalated the issue to Hyundai America for technical assistance. I currently have an open case with Hyundai motor America national consumer affairs. I have noted similar power steering failure incident reports posted on the NHTSA website for earlier model Hyundai tuscon vehicles.

The engine is consuming more than 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. This began around 100000 miles at 1 quart per thousand miles and has since progressed to 1 quart every 500--800 miles. I found this problem when my oil pressure light came on as I was going around a curve. I checked my oil level and it was not visible on the stick. My engine was 3 quarts low 3000 miles since the last oil change. This has been going on since April of 2021. My steering column makes a significant rattling noise and jiggles up and down when going over bumps. This has been going on since about the 80000 mile mark which was around April 2020. My local shop confirmed there was something likely worn out and needing replacement, perhaps the entire steering column.
Power steering failed during vehicle operation while car was moving at speed. Steering wheel became excessively difficult to turn, severely limiting control of the vehicle and rendering the vehicle undriveable. Vehicle displayed dtc codes c168886 and c241396. These codes appear to be indicative of a failure of one or all of the power steering system wiring, motor, and electronic control unit.
I've had numerous issues with my vehicle, including power steering, brakes, loss of power, and more. On a few occasions, I started my vehicle and put it into drive, only to find that the power steering hadn't disengaged. This led to near collisions, such as almost hitting another vehicle while backing out of a parking spot and nearly running into a wall. I've reported these issues to Hyundai multiple times, but the dealership can't reproduce the problem, despite having recordings of the incidents. I've also experienced delayed release of the electronic e-brake and it feeling like it hadn't fully disengaged. In a recent event, with passengers in the car, the e-brake auto-engaged while driving downhill, bringing the vehicle to a halt. I had to manually disengage it and restart the vehicle to resume normal operation. I contacted Hyundai customer service again, but I'm still waiting for a formal response. Other symptoms include loss of power during acceleration, engine starting issues, stuttering, and occasional burning smell from the brakes. Despite my efforts, Hyundai hasn't provided any solutions to these problems. I drive with multiple passengers in my vehicle all the time, including children and have major concerns regarding any of these issues happening, let alone while I am driving at higher speeds or with someone else driving my vehicle.
Hi, I am an owner of 4 Hyundai vehicles and all had the steering wheel coupler failed before 100,000 miles. 2 sonata and 1 elantra coupler was replaced under the 100,000 miles extended warranty but my 2016 Tucson with 80,000 miles is not covered. All Hyundai and kia vehicles have this problem. Why only some models are covered and not others? the problem is the same across the board. I think Hyundai should be compel to honor repairs on all models for this common steering wheel coupler problem and not on selected model.
My electronic steering column isn’t any good I lost my power steering why isn’t this on the recall list for my Hyundai Tucson as it’s a safety issue. Why can’t you people stand behind your vehicle’s can’t you help pay for this? or have it as a recall.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while making a right turn, the steering wheel became firm. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer stated that the multi-fuse and the steering wheel wiring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 11,064.
I just bought the car, it was brand new off the lot. The check engine light came on followed by every emergency warning on my dash. After this my power steering failed, I was able to move over to the right lane a bit, but that’s it. I tried turning the car off at this point and turning it back on, but it would not turn back on. I could not even put on my emergency 4 way blinkers. The car would not even detect the key at this point. Thankfully we were on a small, low traffic road and not the freeway or a major accident would have been inevitable.
2022 Hyundai tuscon abruptly locks steering wheel while driving to the point you cannot turn the steering wheel. Many different types of warnings appear on the dash from blind spot warning to front end collision. Luckily, we were going at a moderate speed, I was driving and forced the wheel to turn enough to get off the road. If this happens to a woman while driving, they will most likely not be able to turn the wheel at all with zero control of the vehicle. Extremely dangerous life-threatening situation, and dealer has been notified. The vehicle has to be towed as it's a major safety risk. This has happened 3 times and the dealer has record of the fault codes but do not know what the problem is at this time. Vehicle only has 16,000 miles on it. When this happens, I can turn off the vehicle and let it power down a minute or two and re-start it and all dash lights are gone and the vehicle is fine again. Most certainly a faulty very dangerous electrical system problem in my opinion.
My vehicle was broken into on Nov. 17, 2022 and thieves attempted to take the vehicle after smashing the back passenger window and gaining access. The vehicle alarmed once they either attempted to either open the drivers side door or start the vehicle. Police were called and completed a report on scene. On Nov. 23, a thief returned and gained access to the vehicle by shattering the glass on the back driver side of the vehicle before getting inside and driving off in the vehicle. I reported the vehicle stolen to police and the vehicle was recovered later that evening. On Nov. 25 I went to the tow yard where the car was taken to retrieve my belongings and observe and record the damage. The entire steering column was stripped down and damaged which is how the thief was able to start it. There are highly circulated videos on social media platforms showing criminals or would be criminals how to do this. It is now also known that they are targeting specifically kias and Hyundais due to Hyundai manufacturing cars between 2016-2020 without immobilizers. My make and model being one of them and therefore making me a target. Not only that but the cars are being taken and used for joy rides, as mine was, or used in crimes. My car sustained additional damage as it was crashed into another vehicle during the thieves joyride before they ultimately jumped out of the car and abandoned it in an intersection. I was targeted, my livelihood put in jeopardy and if the car is fixable I will still be in harm's way once the repairs are completed. Hyundai needs to be held accountable as there is no way I would have purchased this vehicle knowing that the car was missing a major safety and anti-theft component. Further, why were they allowed to manufacture and sell these cars without such an important component??.
Rear control arm mount broke away from subframe while on the highway going 65mph. Violent shaking and steering malfunction occurred immediately. Passed wv inspection just a few months ago.

This car was stolen because the manufacturer neglected to install an immobilizer in the engine. The car was locked and parked in a secure location, and someone broke the window, opened the steering column and was able to start the car with simply a usb. This incident could have entirely been avoided if it weren’t for the negligence of Hyundai manufacturers for not installing a key component of this vehicle. The engine immobilizer. The car has since been in the shop for 50 days attempting to repair the damage done by the thieves. Charging me tons of money in deductibles, transportation fees, rental coverage. Again, all of this could have been avoided if Hyundai was a responsible dealer.
Hello, I am writing because I have experienced mechanical issues with my car since I purchased the automobile. Since I bought the car, I began having problems with the electrical components, the automatic emergency brake engaging while driving, and the chassis. The emergency brake has engaged while driving numerous times and has consistently been unpredictable since I've owned the car. In addition, the car's handling and suspension have been problematic since purchasing the vehicle. The car has driven poorly, with many vibrations and feeling extra loose throughout my owning the car. I received a diagnostic code via my Hyundai app indicating issues related to the chassis. I have contacted Hyundai on far too many instances regarding these problems and have not gotten any resolution. I've expressed my concerns about feeling that the car was unsafe for myself and other drivers on the road. However, Hyundai has still been unresponsive, as indicated by numerous open case files where there was no followthrough. Last week, I was in a car accident with a bus. I believe the accident occurred because of the above-stated problem. Specifically, when the emergency brake unexpectantly engages as it did right before the accident. The car is now at the Hyundai dealership. A representative from the dealership contacted me about my concerns as if the car's problems were new and they were not aware of them. These problems have caused me to experience high-stress levels because of the car's unpredictability and my fear of being in an accident. I desire to receive a two-fold resolution by submitting this letter of complaint. I want to get a properly functioning automobile and to prevent anyone else from being in an accident because of the critical mechanical issues present in the 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a rattling noise and vibration coming from the steering wheel. Additionally, while parking and turning the steering wheel in either direction, there was a clicking noise coming from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the intermediate steering shaft was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 64,000.
I took in my 2017 Hyundai tuscon after the engine had stalled while driving. While in the shop, the engine was replaced which was part of a recall (campaign 209) and also recalls 195 and 966 was addressed. After the repairs and driving home from the dealership, the engine and air conditioning started making weird noises and the following warning lights went abs, power steering, and electronic stability control. When this happened, steering became difficult. We brought the car in the shop, but they denied there was any problem. Within two days after brining the car back to the dealership, the same problem occurred. And now the car will not even turn on.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes and power steering malfunctioned, causing the contact to momentarily lose control of the vehicle and the vehicle drove into the middle of a busy intersection. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two previous occasions and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 300.
Traveling at 50 mph when vehicle began to loose speed and would not accelerate when I stepped on the gas pedal. Eps warning light came on. Was able to pull off the road and turn off vehicle. Waited a few minutes and restarted vehicle which drove without problems. Took vehicle to the dealer who indicated the system was not showing any malfunction codes and they could not replicate the problem. Claimed to reset the system back to factory settings. Will also be notifying Hyundai via certified letter due to history of engine recalls.
Purchased a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson, approx. 79,000 miles. A few weeks later I noticed a rattling in the steering column when driving over railroad tracks, rough roads, etc. When sitting stationary, I could rock the steering wheel back and forth and got a clunking sound. Took to the dealership, they wanted $250 just to diagnose. Did my own investigating. With the car turned on I would hold the steering wheel with one hand and hold the steering shaft with the other and work them in opposite directions. This replicated the clunking and knocking noise I would hear while driving. I determined it was a faulty upper pinch bolt. Replaced the bold and all noise went away. Fast forward a few months later and the sound returned. Slightly at first, then the sound became very pronounced again. Tightened pinch bolt again, went away. Seems to either be a problem with the shaft itself or the upper pinch bolt. Either way, my fear is the steering shaft is going to loosen and fall off of the steering column resulting in a loss of steering and potential accident. Hyundai dealership seems to act clueless about issue.
