This is in direct relation to Hyundai recall campaign 181. Nhtsa recall # 19vx-063. Engine stalled without warning - no engine light - in February of 2020. Vehicle was towed to a local certified and well known auto repair shop for $115. 00. Owner of repair shop advised he looked for recalls and at that time, nothing was showing up for my vehicle and because the engine had 171,000 miles on it, we authorized him to locate the same engine (used) and install it. Cost to us, $5000. 00. It wasn't until months (?) year (?) down the road that we received a recall notice from Hyundai; campaign recall 181. (their letter's are not dated nor are the envelopes postmarked with dates, so I cannot provide those dates). My vehicle was slated to be inspected on 12/3/21; I advised the dealership that it is not the original engine, but the vehicle never made it to the inspection. The weekend prior to 12/3/21 (thanksgiving weekend of 2021), the vehicle stalled (engine seized) on the highway at 65mph; lost power steering and it had to be towed. Our cost $310. We have a video where you can hear the awful grinding noises it made during that time. This time we towed the vehicle to the dealership where they confirmed the engine seized. Hyundai denied any claim to the engine seize. This used engine had less than 100,000 miles on it when it seized. We expected they would fix this one, but they told the dealership that since we did not get the 1st engine fixed by the dealership they won't replace the 2nd engine for us. We towed the vehicle back to our home where it is sitting. Safety was definitely a concern at 65mph and engine seizing; lost power steering. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership. No warning lights or messages; the grinding noise just came out of nowhere and the vehicle continued to lose power and stall on the side of the highway.

Twice in the last nine months (roughly December 14, 2020 at 67,000 miles & 9/7/21 at 84,300 miles) I have been left stranded on the side of the highway due to what two different Hyundai dealerships call "complete engine failure", which requires the replacement of the entire engine. Ultimately, when I asked what a "complete engine failure" entailed, the dealerships both told me there were metal flakes throughout my engine and that the engine had to be replaced. Both times the symptoms were as follows: loss of acceleration and a horrible ticking noise. The gas pedal is pushed to the floor and the car will not move forward. "pop" or "knock" and the engine starts smoking. No check engine light. No check oil pressure light. This is all within about 2 minutes. Moving from 65mph to 0 in a matter of 90 seconds without braking, when you have a semi truck behind you is terrifying. You put your hazards on immediately, pull over as soon as possible, and pray that nobody hits you. You try to stop and your brakes don't seem to be doing their job but you are finally able to stop. Once you've pulled over and the car stops smoking, you pop the hood. Immediately you notice the dipstick for the oil is about halfway out of the engine and oil has exploded everywhere under the hood. I purchased the car 14 months ago and so far, four of those months it has been undriveable due to complete engine failure, requiring replacement and fighting with Hyundai to do the right thing and repair it, which they refuse to do. Even when there is an active campaign (campaign 966) to update the software to trigger a warning light. The campaign was issued 3/30/21 & I just received notification via first class presorted mail to have the software updated on 9/11/21. They say they won't make the repairs because it is out of warranty. I call lies. This is a direct result of failing to notify me in a timely manner to get the software update that would have at least supposedly triggered a warning light.

The car seems to be acting as if there is an electrical fault. All of the safety sensors on the car are flashing and the power steering does not work. My wife and I currently are stationed overseas in italy and the Hyundai dealership said to take it to hyuandai for repair. The Hyundai dealership here refuses to touch it or even reply to us. The vehicle is not driveable.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that if the steering wheel was not exactly positioned at 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock, the vehicle would fail to start. The steering wheel would lock-up and the vehicle would lose power. The contact stated that when turning off the vehicle, the steering wheel had to be positioned at the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position or the vehicle would not start-up. The contact would tow the vehicle whenever the failure would occur. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 92,622.

I received the recall of my 2012 Hyundai tuscon. As a precaution I took it to the dealership to address the recall 181 and an electrical issue I had with the power windows. I visited the dealer two weeks apart and sat at the dealership for more than 5 hours with the second visit being for 8 hours. I was told something was leaking in steering and that had tl be fixed. I left with my car and approximately 8 days later there was a clicking and clanking aound coming from the engine, ive never heard the sound, yet on my paperwork it stated I complained about the sound, which I never did. My car started to stall and lose speed. I was over 100 miles from home and my car was failing in the mountains at that. I called the service department multiple times and never received a call back. Thank god for my insurance towing the car to the closest dealership. A day and half later I was told the engine was gone! I visited the dealership on 07/31/20 & 08/14/20. . . They documented a rattling rattling sound in the front in. . . Never addressed me about this sound , did a so call inspection of the car and next thing I am told is I cant drive it because the engine could blow. No return from Hyundai service manager, no claim filed and I am still out of state without an answer. Called customer service sat online 30 mins waiting for a rep before their line disconnected and them another hour. Filed a case and now still stuck waiting for these people to do their job with out putting my life at risk.

Was getting on entrance ramp to interstate (180 curve ramp) 35 north bound from robinson when orange electric power steering (eps) warning light came on. When I was about 90 degrees into the turn. Shortly after red eps came on. Power steering became non existent. I exited I-35 at indian hills and turned the power off once I got to side of road. Steering became normal after restart and all warning lights were off. Vehicle has around 400 miles. I don't think my wife would had the strength to turn the wheel and I consider this incident would have been extremely dangerous for her,.
Windows get stock up or dow car is park and running this issue happing tree time in less of one year first the driver side them the rear passenger and now the front passenger. Sterling wheel has a clocking noise took to the dealer they say they fix the problem but still making noise this is went the car is in motion special when made turns.
On 12/5/2019, gas pedal failed to accelerate car while transitioning from highway 101 on-ramp to the highway lane. Was able to steer car to shoulder before momentum dissipated. Warning lights for oil and motor were illuminated on dash. No power steering. Turned off motor. Restarted car eventually. Warning lights not illuminated. Gas pedal worked. Drove about 30 minutes to dealer. Hyundai did agree to replace motor and I paid a fraction of the cost (6/2/2021). Since then, they have agreed to reimburse me for my cost. However, an oil leak was detected at the dealer two months (8/25/2021) after receiving the car + rebuilt motor. Dealer has tried 4 more times to fix the very slow oil leak. Leak is still not fixed. Service dept now not returning my call (2/2/2023). Have called Hyundai customer care 800# and obtained a case number.
The issue I have with my Hyundai Tucson 2016 1. 6 turbo happens on an every other daily basis. I recently started having an issue using the left hand signal/blinker and it not working when turning left or changing to left lane while driving. I had the one-touch turn signal feature on where you tap the signal lever and the turn signal flashes 3, 5, or 7 times then off. While driving (maybe 25 - 30% of the time) when signalling for a left-hand turn using the one touch feature, the signal will not engage at all. When making a left turn, I would fully engage the signal to turn left and then complete the turn, the lever would snap back to neutral but the signal would still blink 3 times then off. I either have to slightly increase the down pressure on the lever or click it off and then back down for it to work. No issues at all signalling to the right. I'm afraid this may cause an accident because of other drivers not aware of me changing lanes and/or turning left. I took it to the dealership and they said they couldn't duplicate the problem and suggested I get it on recording somehow. I'm not sure how I can do that when it only happens when I'm driving (not safe to try and record something while driving).
Car losing power when water from rain splashes under and hits belt. Mech. Has confirmed splash shield is not big enough to cover belts. This is very dangerous and causing power steering and all to be lost. It does come back on. But have not been able to find a fix for issue. Have seen online I am not the only one, dealer is no help to me. Hoping this gets things started.

I was doing a 75mph in the state of colorado and suddenly I lost all the power in steering. The brakes were jammed. The steering wheel won't budge. I got rattled in this situation but adrenaline took over and I could slightly swerve the car off the highway and then on the shoulder. I had to use the emergency brakes often, just to slow down the speed and hence to a full stop. The parking brake was my only resort in this incident. I was fortunate to not have met with an accident. It would have been fatal. Upon diagnosis, I found that the timing belt had broken down and this resulted in the loss of power to motors and hence the entire breaking and steering assembly. There was no warning sign for the same, no check engine or any sign that this might happen. Had there been an indication, I would have got the issue sorted out. There are plenty of cars on road which are not aware of this possible issue. This can cause sudden loss of control over car and hence catastrophic/ fatal accidents. I had to tow the car for 200 miles to repair shop. It broke down at a lonely spot. The official position of the company is "we have not seen this issue for a lot of similar cars and hence we won't be taking any action". This is unacceptable. There must be someone who is accountable for such kind of issues. At least a warning should be sent to current car owners so that we can save some lives.

When slowing or idling the car will stall and come to a stop, unable to accelerate again. As the car stalls it becomes very difficult to steer and all the dashboard lights come on (check engine light, oil light, emergency break light, etc). This usually happens when I am slowing down to make a turn and has happened once on the highway. Very scary and dangerous to come to a sudden stop while trying to take an exit on the highway.
Various issues have come up with my Tucson related to misc items which were repaired. I also noticed an issue with acceleration from stop. The car would hesitate when you started to proceed from a stop. The dealership said the engine needs time to get broke in so after it will fix itself. Each time I took the car to the dealership for service, they stated they had checked everything out and performed service and found no issues. I was never told about any recalls or defects in manufacturing. Recently, the problem became dangerous. The car would hesitate at stop lights and almost caused two accidents. On one occasion, it was in heavy traffic and the car would not go after pressing the gas and then it surged forward almost hitting the car in front of me and the car behind me almost hit me also. I took the car back to the dealership, a rep from the service dept. Drove the car and stated, you could drive cross country, and there is no problem. Within days of this incident, another was narrowly avoided and I had enough. The car would not accelerate at a stoplight and then at the next it hesitated and then surged forward almost causing an accident. I returned to the dealership and demanded they figure out the problem and fix it! the dealership took my Tucson to inspect. After a day, they called and told me I needed an entire new transmission. That the original transmission was not operating correctly and required a full replacement, they also said there was a problem with drive shaft which they also would need to fix and finally another problem with the a/c which would require full replacement as well. After two years and a full warranty, the dealership "checking everything" during each service and now only after my demand, and my pleading do they find problemsand all major problems. I got my car back, but now the heating and a/c is not operating right.
Steering wheel locked while driving, unable to turn wheel. Brake light and emergency break ligth went on - on dashboard. Happened 3 times in 3 days. At 5 mph, 10mph and 25mph. Luckily these were on city side streets and 1x while parking. Typically when attempting a turn while beginning or post brake.

I was ordering an oil change online appt. And there was a note sating a recall on airbags for my vehicle. I ve been servicing my vehicles at dealerships in 3 states and never once told or sent an email or letter. I live in GA as of March 2017.
The car has had several issues since I got it brand new off the lot, however the biggest issues is with the transmission. I currently have 35k miles on the car and the issues are coming more frequent. The biggest issue is the hesitate and lurch problem. You can be on an incline or just trying to go across an intersection when it happens. You press the gas, the car hesitates as the gears change and you slowly roll out into the street, then the car lurches you forward. I came within a few inches of hitting the bumber of another car after I was lurched forward. There seems to be no reason or pattern behind this. It just happens randomly. The whole car shakes as this happens, so bad that even passengers can feel it.
The bluetooth answer button on the steering wheel does not work nor does the volume down. Therefore, I am having to take my eyes off of the road to answer a phone and turn volume down. This makes the hands free feature non existent. This happens while driving.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, a clicking noise was present coming from the steering column while turning the steering wheel in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who indicated the ticking noise was caused by loosened steering column bolts. The bolts were re-torqued and the failure was remedied. The contact indicated that approximately 40,000 miles later the ticking noise reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering column bolts had loosened again. The bolts were again re-torqued and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,037.
All vehicle lights come on dashboard and power steering shuts off when going through a rain puddle approx 3-4 inches deep. The vehicle will not turn and the wheel locks up. I've been to the dealership multiple times and they told me there's no solution to the problem and that they cannot fix an issue that does not exist. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle when it rains and the fact that I just paid this vehicle off is making me re-consider it and purchase a new one. I have children and now that we're in hurricane season in south florida I cannot drive while it''s raining on when it hot as hell outside. This is ridiculous Hyundai needs to do something because I'm sure I'm not the only one having this issue. I'm going to file a complaint with the attorney general because I paid 20,000 for this vehicle and I feel that someone should replace this vehicle or perform a recall to find out what's causing the issue.
Addendum to complaint #10806179: dashboard warning lights that keep coming on and off and permanently staying on are the parking brake, abs service indicator, 4wd system warning light, low tire pressure telltale. All of these warning lights tell you to bring to your dealer as soon as possible as severe injury or death could occur. I really think this is a safety issue that should be looked into. Thank you. Not sure where else to go with this; have sent Hyundai USA an email as well.

Letter to nstb and MA attorney general, re Hyundai underbody corrosion on 8/6/2015 I received a Hyundai "service campaign notification" on my 2005 Tucson for "under body corrosion. " I did have the recall service completed. (¿arrests¿ it, they claim, but not removes it. ) by that date I had already experienced two failures caused by the corrosion, both of which I believe had high potential for serious, even fatal accidents. The repairs cost almost $2,000, but they refused to reimburse. I am more concerned with the safety issues. Luckily, the fuel tank falling onto the drive shaft did not rupture and explode. The right front control arm failure caused loss of steering control and an abrupt stop into the right curb. Had it been the left front,, I would have been steered into oncoming traffic. Had it been at turnpike speed I suspect a likely rollover. The left front arm was also near failure. I sent two emails to Hyundai, and made a number of calls, in part requesting repair reimbursement, but more importantly to tell them my concern the car was unsafe to drive. I asked them to buy it back at a fair price. No response. Twice, they promised to contact me in 2 to 5 days, they didn¿t, ever. . When I later called them and told them I had sold the car (at a loss in value) they just brushed me off. (to paraphrase them: ¿it¿s no longer an issue since you now don¿t own it¿). I can provide documents (repair invoices, with findings, and emails if you wish). I am requesting you take action to investigate, and as needed, take action to issue stronger sanctions against Hyundai, they should be forced to recall all the affected cars.
2005 Hyundai tuscon, rear sub-frame completely rotted out. The garage was shocked to see where the 4 bolts are to hold the crossbar completed broke off! while driving on the highway at 65mph, and changing lanes the vehicle seemed to have a delayed reaction or like it was "fish-taling". The incident didn't happen on the highway, however when turning a corner on my street, suddenly a loud rubbing sound and grinding sound happened and the vehicle waved side to side while trying to drive it up the street. The steering was extremely loose and it felt like it was going to crash into the side of the road on the curb. There was rubber from the tire on the inside wheel well on the piece that covered the shocks. Hyundai replacement parts is almost $1000!!!.
Hello, I purchased a 2012 Hyundai tuscon, 2wd, and had a terrible time in this vehicle during snowy/wet weather. I live in silver spring, MD, and was driving the vehicle in snow on February 21, 2015. The vehicle skidded, the tires spun, and the car got stuck several times. Also, the esc (electronic stability control) had to be manually disabled in order to keep from being rear ended, as this functions more like a brake--than a feature to designed to maintain control of the car. I'm originally from chicago, IL, and am quite used to driving vehicles in snowy conditions. This was a most unusual and scary experience with the tuscon. I did an internet search and came across several complaints, labeling the stock tires on the tuscon as 'hazardous' in snowy/wet conditions. Apparently, other drivers have noticed these tires lose all traction during snowy/wet weather. I'm not sure if other factors beside the tires impacted the car's scary performance during wet/snowy conditions. I did contact Hyundai, and they asked me to have the car inspected, which I did. After that I received a letter from the company telling me they had found no problem and that was the end of the discussion. If the problem is limited to the tires, then consumers need to be made aware at the time of purchasing a Hyundai tuscon that the tires stocked by Hyundai are potentially treacherous in wet/snowy conditions.
Car has been in shop about 8 time for pulling to right 1st they said it was bad tires switched out but still continued to pull went it shop again said it was the tires so switched out again took another dealer said that it was the crowning in road I drove other Tucson's and they did not pull then they said it was because of all the mileage that was on my car next they said it was pulling bc of electronic steering id really like to know what is wrong with the car. I have a regional person coming down on the 28th of Aug to look into car pulling to right. Also have took my car to firestones and they say that there is something definitely wrong with the tow and alignment yet the dealer insists that is not the problem.
When turning right on a raining day, loss of power - no steering or brakes. 2006 tuscon would run radio would be on - battery light and brake lights on - 10 seconds after managing to get out of traffics way - car would move. Hyundai foxed the car by replacing sensors and some other work resulting in over a $1000. Prior major service was serpentine belt and chain replacement on service recommendations - had no issues before the chain was replaced. Ever since - the transmission had to reset for hesitation between 20 and 40 mph and the additional sensor work. Hyundai would not give me any warranty work as my 6 years had just expired. I am taking the car back in tomorrow for the same issue. While driving today in a sudden down pour - the first one since I had the car fixed that I have had to drive in and the incident occurred again except this time I was driving and not turning. Water seemed to get under the engine and something is getting wet. I requested a rental car and I am leaving for vacation on Saturday to the shore. If its not fixed this time - I may have to consider a new car and I just paid it off.
I was driving on 611 north when my steering wheel forcfully turned to the left. It put me in the second lane of ongoing traffic, where I hit the opposing car head on. I was knockedout for at least 20 minutes. I do not know the other driver's injuries. I was told they were minor.
The electronic power steering feels stuck, vague, hard, lacks of maneuverability and feedback while driving the vehicle, feeling the sensation that you will lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle goes to either ways (right or left side) giving the impression that you are going to crash. Also is very difficult to maintain the vehicle align on the road lane and it has to be corrected constantly requiring more physical effort than normal driving.
While turning into my carport, my engine stalled. Right before I turned, I took my foot off the accelerator and the car hesitated and lurched forward. This could be a potentially dangerous problem if my car stalls on the road and some other driver rear ends me.
