Engine stall due to the recall.
2013 Hyundai Veloster. Consumer writes in regard to engine trouble.
Engine failed driving down the highway, rod broke witch put a large hole in the engine.
Due to recall 182. I was driving and without warning my car slowed down to 40 mph from 70 mph and thecheck engine came on. I had the car towed to midas who informed me of a recall that had caused a pressure build up in the piston which caused the engine to fail. The rate at which the car slowed was unbelievable and almost caused the car behind me to rear-end my car. The dealership refuses to fix the car stating that it is not under warranty. The engine failure happened at 86,000 miles. I got to drive this car for all of 3 months and it has been at the dealership for 5 months.

My engine burns oil. There is no leakage on the ground. I check the oil once a week and have to add 2 1/2 quarts of oil or more every time I check it. My safety is at risk because if I miss one week of checking the oil level and forget to add oil, my engine is going to seize while driving and possible kill me or other drivers. Oil lamp has been on and I've been refilling the oil weekly for approximately one month. Tire company -midas tires- changed my tires but did not perform an inspection. They informed me of a government recall for a dangerous engine issue that Hyundai will not acknowledge nor fix.

I received a recall for an engine knock sensor. Took the car to the dealer only to be told if they do the knock sensor recall it will put the car in an unusable condition. The car has 158k miles and has check engine light on and the engine is knocking. After researching this model, I saw a lot of people with the same issue. The dealer said the motor has to be replaced! it is aparently a manufacturer defect. The car has been properly maintained and is now unusable. This is totally unacceptable. The manufacturer should be liable for selling a defective product. Engine will basically explode with fire a real possibility.
So the vehicle wants to hesitate and buck violently to the point of nearly stalling out while accelerating and prevents the car from being able to merge into highway traffic in a safe manner and the surrounding years make and model are all on a recall due to a e. C. U. Required update for a necessary reflashing for the ability to be use the automobile in the way it's designer/designers can make make want h. The severity and frequency of the problems are embarrassing and frustrating to be scared of risking my life being injured in a stalled/stalling vehicle without a power supply to navigate.
Engine was producing a ticking noise for about half a day before the check engine light came on. The check engine light was on for one day before I noticed the vehicle starting to stall out. The engine caught on fire after stalling out.
Unknown premature engine failure on well maintained vehicle. Engine is known for failures but the particular model of vehicle is not under recall. Dealership wants an unreasonable amount to replace with used engine (13'000$ twice the value of the car in working order).
Our car is 9 years old with only 50,636 miles. We are the second owner. The engine started making noise (no warning lights) so we took it to the dealer. They’ve diagnosed damage in cylinder 1 and need to replace the head gasket and cylinder head assembly valve spring seat. I’ve been told by the Hyundai mechanics that this issues sounds very much like the issue that resulted in the recall of 2013/2014 Hyundai sonata and santa fe’s. The dealership submitted a warranty request on my behalf despite the fact that the car is beyond the years covered by the warranty. I was told by the dealership that Hyundai knows about this issue with other models not covered by the recall and commonly will replace the engine of other vehicles even despite they’re outside of warranty within reason. I was hopeful but my warranty request was denied. Now I’m looking at over $10,000 in repairs which makes my car close to a complete loss. A couple months prior to the issue we receive a Hyundai notification that was something like we need to install a sensor in the engine that will alert you at the earliest signs of engine trouble. I had just donated a kidney and not in any condition to take the car in for this so that has not been done but what it tells me is that Hyundai knew of issues enough to install a sensor to detect these types of issues early before major damage. Note this was not a recall.
Since I got the car in 2015 I have been taking it to the Hyundai dealership for all maintenance. I kept telling them that it feels like it’s driving hesitant or pushed to go. I took my car in for a routine oil change and my car came back not running. They said my car needed an update. They did so without my permission. Then was told I needed a new transmission. A month later I’m driving down the road my car was on but not driving like it would not go. I had to get it towed. They said it was the cat converter. Well the car was still was having the same issue after that was fixed. I was driving down I-4 to go to the dr and my car suddenly slowed down and would not go I couldn’t get over and was almost rear ended. I took it back to Hyundai. They said it was a knock sensor. Fixed it. Was coming from orlando 24 hours later and the car slowed down on its own again with a big semi behind me and my daughter was in the car. Hyundai refuses to fix the engine that’s a gdi that is recalled in the turbo Veloster because mine is base model. I also have a 2015 Hyundai elantra hatch back that shows the same signs as my Veloster they both have gdi engines. Please feel free to contact me at arobinson1120@gmail. Com or 8636024011. And this has been doing this since before my mileage was high and it was below 60,000. I do have copies of all maintenance that was done at the dealership. If you have and email I can forward all invoice.
My engine have a detonation and melted a spark plug and lost compression in this cylinder, the car not run.
Driving on the interstate back from work going 60+ mph. The vehicle turns off and I lost power, my rpms dropped to 0 and it was no longer accelerating. It’s as if it was in neutral. I had to cruise my way off to the side and get my car towed to a shop. This could have killed me.

Parts distribution disconnect.
I purchased this car in September 2020 from a dealership and had no knowledge that there was an open recall on the vehicle. My son was driving the car home from school when in what he describes as the car losing all power with a rumbling noise. Smoke began coming from under the hood. He immediately pulled over. He was at a red light and had reached about 35 mph when the engine failed. He immediately pulled over about 200 to 300 feet from where he was had accelerated from at the red light. The vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealership. After inspection it was reported that the open recall campaign was addressed on the vehicle however the damage caused by the recall was not fixed by the dealership. The dealership gave a quote of $9100 to replace the engine which through a rod through the engine block, a new starter, a new intake manifold and a new turbo. The dealership advised that they would only address the computer software update to address the pre ignition issue that leads to engine failure or fire but would not fix the damage caused by the recall. This is very unfortunate that automakers can build cars that they issue recalls on and only be responsible for fixing the recall and not the damage caused due to the recall. I should have never been sold a car with an open recall that was not addressed before purchase. My sons life was put at risk as well as other motorist. He broke down on an extremely busy highway. Highway 501 in conway south carolina. The car began smoking and could have caught fire. I am floored that a country like ours does not place more accountability on automakers and dealerships.
Connecting rod failure. A test was ran on my car and this code came up even though my check engine light was off. There is a rattling when accelerating and a decrease in speed when accelerating. The rattling began a little less than a year ago so I took it to a shop but they said it couldn’t be fixed because the engine is enclosed. Basically to fix this issue I would need an entire new engine and it is already causing major issues on my vehicle. This is a safety issue because the engine could just fail.

The contact was later informed that the manufacturer had denied the claim. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

While driving at 65+ mph on a major highway, car suddenly lost all power. I pulled over and all lights on cluster popped on at the same time (check engine, low oil, low tire pressure, low battery, etc), and then lights turned off. There were no error codes when read with a obd scanner. Car still ran, but would not move, all power was lost. After having it towed, it was found that the catalytic converter had clogged, and for some reason did not throw an error code. This happened on a busy highway with no warning, and could have been very dangerous if I hadn't been able to pull over.
On five separate occasions the vehicle engine has shut off completely while driving in traffic. Fortunately my wife was able to coast to the side of the road, but in all instances a serious road hazard and danger to safety for both us as well as the public was created. We are now no longer driving the vehicle out of fear of our safety. We have contacted the Hyundai dealership where all the prior 4+ years of service has been done, as well as Hyundai USA. Both have said they will not investigate. After the first two occurrences, I was told the original engine needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the internal components. This is the exact same reason for the recent global recall, however Hyundai said our model was not covered under the warranty even though it was the same issue. We had the Hyundai dealership replace the engine and within one month it happened again. This time they said the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold had failed again (this was the third catalytic converter). Since then, the engine has shut off two more times while driving. A local certified mechanic has inspected it and said he has seen several similar problems with other Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai USA refuses to address the issue.
Ive replaced the engine three time due to failure. The failure of the gdi motors is imminent. On a different note, the climate control knob heats up and burns out the metal strip behind the knob which causes the knob to eventually become useless.
I have had to replace the turbo and radiator. I have replaced the coil packs and spark plugs 3 times since I received the car and now the transmission is acting up. I bought the car Dec 2020 and it has left me stranded on the side of the road 4 times already from the engine malfunctioning.
Hyundai denied my claim for reimbursement for an engine issue. They stated that the VIN is not included in the recall. However, my mechanic is the one who bought the issue to my attention. He believes this recall should also apply to this vehicle. He said he is willing to discuss the repair with any interested parties. My mechanic is auto accents located in lakewood NJ. His name is nick and he can be reached at 732-905-5088. I only ask that review the attached receipt, speak with my mechanic, and consider adding this VIN to the recall.
The climate control switch has been replaced multiple times. The main harness where clips in is burnt an is melting my switch out after being changed an used for few hours it then burns out. The car smells like it's melting threw the vent of plastic.
Driving down the highway it sounded like something flew under my car and suddenly started smoking and a flame came out. There was loud banging under the hood: like a boom. We pulled to the side of the highway before it completely died and it caught sparks. We do not have any photos since this happened in the middle of the night.
Engine blew with 116k I barely drove this car about 6 minute daily.
