1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard an abnormal clicking sound emanating from the front of the vehicle, after which she became aware that there was excessive left and right play in the steering wheel. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. 2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

Unknown but it threw the abs light on and off and then the oil change light come on and it stared ticking after it shut off and then I turned it on and the ticking got worse and louder and steering was cliking so I parked it and it would not go over 20 mph or pull a hill so it’s been parked ever since.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2023

The steering coupler for the mdps (motor driven power steering) was disentegrated mostly. There are 8 cutouts on the coupler. 4 catch the motor and 4 catch the steering box. Its original and made of soft rubber. The steering always seemed vague for a sports car. The new coupler dorman 926-990 looks like a urethane, some type of firmer material. The car steers perfectly now. The danger is from the chance that the coupler wouldn't catch when turning the steering wheel which supplies input to the mpds and the steering wheel would turn and the front wheels wouldn't or maybe only sort of follow the intended direction.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2023

Steering wheel is clicking with the slightest movement. After diagnostic at Hyundai they stated its a known issue , yet no recall for this model has been put out yet. Only on other Hyundai's. The diagnostic result given was the coupling was going bad. If this effects your ability to steer your vehicle I feel like this should be a safety recall. I have located several complaints about this same issue. On the Veloster forum there are multiple people experiencing this same issue.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2023

When I took my car to the Hyundai dealer for recalls in April 2023 after they completed the service my steering coupler broke and I was told it would cost me 292. 00 to repair. I went this morning to get tires at flynn's and they gave me a technical service bulletin 14-st-002-1 the steering coupler and told me to call Hyundai because it should be replaced for free. I phoned Hyundai dealer and they stated this does not apply to my particular VIN #. It is definitely broken and should be applied to this vehicle.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

Steering coupler went out at 23,000 miles. Not covered under warranty according to Hyundai leading to repairs in excess of $500. Many Hyundai’s have this problem and if it goes out completely the vehicle no longer has electric steering assist, the steering wheel makes a clunking sound, and the car drifts all over the road.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2022

A few months ago, my abs and traction control lights began to come on and off randomly. Then, new lights would pop up, such as check engine and the brake light. These lights would come on, and then go off very sporadically. In the last week, it had gotten much worse. My tire pressure light and eps light had came on as well, totaling about 6 or 7 lights that are on and won't go off. Then, my steering wheel became increasingly hard to turn, I' m guessing because the eps was off. Then, my speedometer completely stopped working, and my gas gauge was jumping up and down after I had filled it to a full tank. I pulled the code, and got code for a wheel speed sensor. I replaced the wheel speed sensor, and no lights went off. I then inspected the fuses, noticed that the abs fuse was blown, and decided to replace it. I replaced it, and the abs module (or pump) started to smoke badly. The car had a heavy electrical smoke smell and I didn't think it was safe to drive for a while. Hyundais have had recalls for abs modules smoking before, but never for a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, and I believe that is something that should be investigated because I believe I could have been injured.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

Steering wheel clunks while turning. Most likely the rubber steering wheel coupler. Found a bunch of other complaints for the same thing with this make and model.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

My 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo steering recently developed a loose range with clunking at either end of the range. Appx mileage is 70k. Research indicates it could be caused by a rubber coupler in the steering column. Other Veloster owners stated online that this seems to be a common problem and should be investigated by NHTSA for a possible recall.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

-steering motor coupler -interrupted my turning at highway speeds, posed danger against myself and every other driver on the road. -it has been confirmed as the problem, and is a well known problem in the Veloster community. A recall is needed to prevent car accidents. Please help us. -no, it was not inspected outside of repair. -no warning lights at all are triggered by this problem. Symptoms are steering wheel clunking, sticking, vibrating. As it gets worse, steering wheel can become stuck in place, making it very difficult to turn the wheel. Https://youtu. Be/-2ximj3km3q here is a link to someone opening up the motor to see the coupler torn to ribbons. It is the same piece as I replaced. The Veloster forum has hundreds if not thousands of reports of this problem.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2021

Steering column clicking because of worn steering wheel coupler. This could cause steering wheel to lock. Hyundai had agreed to cover the elantra and sonata for up to 10 years but not other models. This is same problem for other models. They should fix as steering column could be harmed and accidents could occur.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2020

The steering wheel is lose with loud clicking sound when the wheel is turned. The cruise control when turn on will not turn off. The clicking lose steering happens when stationary or driving. Cruise control stocks when driving. This started 3 years ago. Stopped using cruise control. Took car to Hyundai for both. Clicking/loose steering is a faulty part that is know by Hyundai and has been recalled on sevetal other Hyundai. But no recall has been done for the Veloster.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

I was experiencing loss of power steering/loose steering wheel in my Hyundai Veloster, which compromised my ability to control my car's steering direction and so could have resulted in an accident. There were no warning lights. I had my car inspected and the serviceman identified a worn steering coupler. I am aware that the elantra and sonata of like years have been issued a recall on the same part due to the poor material quality, but found my model did not yet have this same part recalled.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

2013 Hyundai Veloster with 40,000 miles. I am the original owner. I bought the car in April 2013 and just noticed this problem in January 2020. The steering wheel feels like it has a flat spot and sticks when I turn the wheel to the left or right. This happens regardless of being stationary or driving. The sticking only happens when I initially turn the wheel. And, when I reverse the wheel to drive straight - it has that momentary flat spot feel.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

While driving, my steering wheel will begin to shake. This has been occurring frequently, during moments while I've driven straight and have turned. Regardless of the position of my wheel, it has increasingly began to shake, as if the wheel is out of place. The wheel has become loose. I visited a Hyundai dealership, and they identified the issue, relating it to a small, plastic part in the wheel. The dealership told me that Hyundai issued recalls for this exact part in other Hyundai vehicles, just not the Veloster. It is the same part in other Hyundai vehicles, one that has been recalled in those makes and models, but Hyundai has yet to issue a recall for this exact part in the Veloster models. This issue has made it increasingly dangerous to drive, as the dealership verbally told me that eventually, the steering will may disconnect from the vehicle.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2019

2013 Hyundai Veloster non turbo 39,000 miles catalytic converter failure and engine failure while driving. While driving the vehicle on a rural road, the engine shut down and the car lost power. I noticed smoke from the exhaust when the engine shut down. I was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. Vehicle was towed to dealer where it was found the catalytic converter had failed. It was noted that the engine had a loud ticking sound that it did not have prior to the catalytic converter failure. The engine is going to be replaced with cost share from Hyundai. This is not a unique issue and has been recalled for the same exact same issue in the kia soul with the 1. 6l engine. This issue should be addressed in full by the manufacturer.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

This has actually happened multiple times, each time when turning. The first time was turning left out of a parking lot, my car refused to accelerate, I had to put it into neutral and then back into drive, it finally started driving. The second time, was driving and turned left into an intersection and it just stopped. I had to turn it off and then on again before it would move. I am lucky no one was behind me. The 3rd time I was not alone in the car and again I turned left into an intersection and it just stopped. Emergency blinkers on and again, I had to turn off the car and turn it on again for it it move. The most recent was this morning when I turned right and like before, it just wouldn't move. I had to turn emergency blinkers on, and turn off and turn on car again. Living in a busy city with people that are not paying attention all the time, this is really starting to be worrisome.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

My 2013 Veloster has 49,000 miles and it appears the rubber fitting inside the steering wheel has deteriorated. The wheel shakes and shudders violently. I'm unhappy that Hyundai has allowed owners of elantras to have their vehicles repaired under a service bulletin, but Velosters apparently do not qualify?.

My steering wheel makes a clicking noise when turning or shifting the wheel from side to side. The steering wheel isn't tightly secured. In addition, the buttons on the steering wheel for voice control, etc. No longer works.

33 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

After approximately 78000 miles the steering wheel began making a clicking sound when turning left or right. The problem stems from a plastic piece that needs replacing but the cost is over $300. 00 due to the entire steering wheel assembly has to be removed. Hyundai has issued a recall for the elantra's for the very same thing but not the Veloster. 1st major concern with vehicle but not pleased that hyundia wont own up to this brand problem. My cousin has a 2-door genesis and the same thing has happened to him at 30k miles.
