5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2024

The car lost power gradually ;when I was driving ; we were on the freeway and I couldn’t continue driving 60 miles per hour , therefore I turned on the turn signals cause I just could drive at 35 miles per hour and the car just start shaking ; I just look for the next exit by the time we were on risk on the emergency lane for along time cause the next exit was to far from there . And the car was too slow ,when we finally got exit I call and I stop my car and call the mechanic to ask for help and he help me plug in the scanner machine to my car and there was a problem with some cylinders and one valve and I decided to called to the dealer to get an appointment:. My vehicule already was checking for Hyundai but they just text me a message ; they said my car needs to replace a motor ,turbo ; some broken valves causing zero pounds of compression on cylinder 4-long block repair-new intake and exhaust manifolds (including turbo)required due to broken valve sending metal through the entire system -quote long block/intake and exhaust manifolds /turbo /all necessary gaskets and fluids for repair : I just was noted my car was consuming too much oil, cause the car board showed me 3 weeks ago and I need to add oil ,and the mechanic plugged in the scanner; but it doesn’t showed something else ;therefore 3 weeks ago I added 1/4 or more ; then was 2 week ago; I added 1/4 of oil again and then just last week I added 1/4 or more oil again ;I just was checking the oil constantly. ; and it should be noted that the car was not leaking oil but I didn’t understand why it was running out so quickly .

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2024

Engine started knocking at 117,xxx miles with oil changes less then 5,000 miles. Dealership acknowledged and confirmed that the rod bearings were bad. If requested could remove the rod bearings. Dealership and corporate Hyundai acknowledged the problem, but would not help cover any of the costs. The vehicle was also losing around 1 quart for every 1,000 miles which was not addressed by the dealer. This is a huge safety risk, if the bearing completely failed the vehicle would have stalled on the interstate. No check engine light is present or was present. The issues with the Veloster turbo is well know and document from 2012-2017 regarding the failure of rod bearings prematurely. Other kia and Hyundai vehicles have recalls for this same problem, unfortunately the Veloster does not.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2024

The rods are going bad , and Hyundai doesn’t want to admit that they did a horrible job with the engine and they don’t want to replace the engine , unless the car is a 2013 or 2016 which is ridiculous. They don’t want to honor their word.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2023

There is a current recall since September, 2023, with no remedy to date. In addition, I have driven this vehicle very little after last having my car serviced at the dealership, just over a year now, which seemed to not be sounding right in the engine, so it alarmed me, and all started feeling overwhelming since going to the dealership for repairs. I see there is an engine recall on the 2015 Veloster, though not the 2014? yet they are claiming that both issues can cause fires. My vehicle has less than 100k miles if I remember correct from when I last looked. It's been months since I've even driven the vehicle, as I've not felt safe or comfortable doing so. My vehicle seems to have a lot of the same symptoms as the 2015 Veloster recall. I have been nervous to take it back to the same dealer, though I've also been too nervous to let just any mechanic look at it. When the dealer last changed my oil, a bunch leaked out in my driveway, and I was told there's a safety overflow. In addition, my oil light came on, and I was simply told they forgot to reset it.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2022

When driving my vehicle on the highway, I took an off ramp and came to a complete stop at a stop light. When coming to the stop my car completely shut off. It would not turn over or anything. I popped the hood and didn't see any sign of oil or fluid leaks from the engine bay or underneath the vehicle. After getting it towed to the nearest mechanic they checked for codes and nothing popped up. They checked my oil (which I change my fluids regularly and have documents to prove so) and found there was only half of a quart of oil in my engine. They drained it and in the sample they found metallic particles in the oil. Now my engine is knocking anytime I press on the gas. Looking over the type of engine I have (gamma gdi) there was an issued recall on that specific type of engine for the exact same problem I have across Hyundai and kia vehicles sharing the same type of engine. I contacted Hyundai but they refuse to work on my vehicle since my VIN doesn't pop up for the recall even though all the supporting documents and diagnosis I have show, that the engine problem I have are the exact same as the recall shows. I even gave Hyundai their own technical service bulletin that was on their website showing my year make and model should be worked on. Now Hyundai keeps telling me its a warranty issue, not a recall issue ignoring everything I've given them to support my claim even after stating how they had a class action lawsuit they lost in California for this same issue of the engine malfunctioning and then would start knocking right after the warranty would end (my vehicle is at 109500 miles. ) I am at a complete loss and don't know what to do since this was my first bigger vehicle purchase that I still owe on and they want me to pay 10k for a refurbished engine.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2022

Driving on cruise control on interstate , the 2014 Hyundai Veloster felt like it lost power . The engine light flashed a few times . White smoke came out of rear as started to merge it made a low clank noise from the engine compartment . Pulled over off of interstate and popped hood to check the engine and realized there was fire coming from all over the engine . 2014 Hyundai Veloster financed not even made the first payment either. Had 120,043 miles on it . Dealership claimed that they did a recon on it before they turned it over to us . We did take it back in because the engine turned off as he was idling at stop lights. It was harder and harder to get started , it got to the point where it would stop running while moving . The dealership could not replicate the problem and therefore turned it back over to us . Codes p0302 and p0335 came on . There were no recalls on the 2014 models but the year before and after . Doesn’t make sense , since they all had engine problems , catching on fire .

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

I purchased my 2014 Hyundai Veloster as a cpo back in January of 2018 with approximately 37k miles. Currently it has 95,637 miles. Within the first couple months of ownership, I noticed that the vehicle was sporadically acting up during acceleration (specifically when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear). During this process it acts as if all of its power is shut off momentarily and then comes back on, which can potentially be dangerous when accelerating into high traffic areas, or busy intersections because not only does it lose acceleration power but steering as well. I brought it to the dealership right away, but because it never throws any trouble codes, nor does it happen on command - they cannot pin point the issue. Initially they changed the alternator. The second time, I believe, they changed the knock sensor or the camshaft position sensor. In short, I’ve brought it to the dealership several times and have filed numerous complaints to Hyundai consumer affairs, but to no avail. Most recently (March 2022), it happened when both of my stepchildren were in the car while we were returning from the beach. I accelerated from a traffic light and was going around a bend when it happened causing me to slam into the curb and caused nearly $1700 in damage, which I had to pay for out of pocket because at this point it is out of warranty- even though it’s been an ongoing issue pre-warranty lapse. Then to top it all off, I was leaving work this evening to go to an appointment and all of a sudden it began smoking from underneath the steering column. I quickly pulled into the turning lane and popped the fuse box lid open. Instantly I noticed that a wire harness was on fire, which luckily I was able to blow out after several attempts. I’m at my wit’s end with this car, with the dealership, and with Hyundai…. . I need help and don’t know what to do!.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

Unknown at least four occasions, my Veloster stalled at an intersection within a two month time period. On at least two unique occasions, the vehicle stalled out in the middle of oncoming traffic at night. A check engine light appeared after the vehicle stalled out. The dealership has inspected and reportedly performed work to resolve the engine issue; however, after bring the vehicle for servicing, the engine issue persisted. Hyundai service manager advise me to bring in the vehicle four times; however, the engine light continues to appear after reported work has been performed. Note: regular maintenance has been performed on the vehicle.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2022

While driving down i95 south at 10:30 at night my car made a noise like I ran over a cardboard box. Then smoke started to come out of the hood. I I went to the emergency lane hoping it was a flat tire. There was oil all over the ground and car. No warning lights or car acting funny. Cruise was set and driving home with my mom. Took car to dealership and verified the block had cracked. I asked why, the car only had 65800 miles on it. They said my last oil change looked good, they have no idea. Not covered under warranty. Only 2015 and 2016 are covered for motor failure. Mine is a 2014 I checked the recalls. They charged me $9100 to replace the motor. When I picked up the car I asked again why it cracked. They said sometimes they just don't know why. My mom and I were stranded on the freeway for over two hours waiting for a tow truck and it decide to rain on us 3 times.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

Vehicle was in 5th gear when massive decelleration occured (55 mph to 20 mph). Engine started to stall out. Downshifted to 4th, 3rd, etc. Was able to pull over to breakdown lane. No warning lights in the months prior. Car seviced regularly. Had just passed state inspection two months prior (no codes in log), Hyundai dealer had addressed campaign 966 a month prior (no codes in log), and then catastrophic failure of catalytic converter. Vehicle required tow to mechanic who stated "I've never seen anything like it. The cat was completely slagged out, like it must have been cherry red hot. Thank god it was freezing last night or the car could have caught fire. " no cel warnings at all on that night or any time prior. Believe this is directly tied to camp 966 engine monitoring logic issue.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, he heard an abnormal knocking noise emit from the engine without warning. He then stated that a large amount of white smoke began to spew from the vehicle as his engine began to stall. As the contact was able to pull the vehicle over; the engine failed to restart after multiple attempts. Upon inspection, the contact also discovered a long trail of oil had leaked from his vehicle; he also discovered that oil had spewed all over the engine underneath the hood. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where they discovered a large piece of metal had blown threw the engine block, which resulted in engine failure. The contact informed the dealer of the failure and his wife was informed that they had to order a new engine from the manufacturer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2021

Since Nov/Dec 2020 low oil warning lite started flashing at 2 separate svc intervals for oil change maintenance. At service visit in Jan 2021 requested dealer to inspect for oil leaks. None were found but since then I began checking oil level regulary & found out the car was consuming excessive amount of oil…about half a qt every 250-300 miles. At next service appt to have oil change I informed dealer of my findings which he advised performing the 1000 mile consumption test & wait till after to change oil. He advised if vehicle fails consumption test Hyundai’s guidelines suggest a combustion chamber cleaning (at a cost of over $400)! my complaint is if the cleaning is part of Hyundai’s repair guidelines & there’s no other alternative to this step, (as referenced in TSB# 21-em-003h) why does the customer have to pay the $400+ to have it done if the customer’s vehicle has less than 100000 miles so it should still be covered under the 10 year/100000 mile powertrain warranty.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Car was running fine and out of nowhere the engine starts rattling. It then turns off completely at an intersection and I take it to the mechanic and they said it was a compression rod failure that cause the engine to just not work.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I haven't had many troubles with steering like others have however I have had problems where the car doesn't immediately go into gear. I can start the car and it takes up to a minute to go into gear and every once in awhile I have that problem when switching over neutral (ie. Going from park or reverse to drive or vice versa) another problem I'm having troubles with is the electronics. When I go to back up the rear camera appears for 1 or 2 seconds then goes to the radio. Its nearly an everyday thing. Sometime the radio, discs, or media player will play music but will be silenced and I have to change the mode and switch it back before it will play. Has nothing to do with the volume I have tried that. Also recently my clock has started to reset every time I turn the car on. It resets to 11:10. Everything except the clock has been happening for months and I cant get anything done unless I pay. Which I refuse because it shouldn't be my problem.
