I stood my 17 month old nephew up in the front passengers side floorboard of the 2012 hyundia voloster manual transmission with push start . I stepped out of the car on the passage side of the car the car was parked in first gear no one was on the driver's side . I bent over to get my shoes on and baby reached over and pushed the start button on the car the car should not have started since the clutch was not pressed in but unfortunately the car started and lunged forward being on a incline it was as if someone smashed on the gas pedal I ran with the car as far as I could but it was going so fast I could not get into the car to stop it I was drug trying to stop the car the car flew thru a fence , into the woods, down a steep hill then crossed a one lane road traveled up a hill thru another patch of woods before going up hill and hitting a tree all the while our nephew was not in a car seat the car was bouncing side to side when it went off road to cross a creek so I know the baby was thrown around in the car he had to of been that car was going so fast I was screaming in fear that he would not be alive when I made it to the car now the key was in my purse located in the passenger side floorboard where I stood the baby up at so when I reached the car the doors had automatically locked the car was still running and the baby was screaming I could not leave the baby to go get help so I tried to tell him to open the door but like I said he is 17 months old he didn't know what I was telling him to do and since the car went thru the fence it knocked the wiper blades off and the metal was going back and forth on the glass and it was so loud screeching back and forth and baby is screaming and I could not get to him and I know the screeching is scaring him even more so I reached up the pull the wipers away from the windshield and when I did baby leans on the door to see what I was doing and he hits the windows button and the windows came down just far enough to get it unlock.

Here is what happened I left my house about 8 am and I head towards the 101 south from union hills drive and 83rd Ave I'm on the 101 south and yhe time I am passing the thunderbird exit I hear a loud explosion and I duck a little bit and I see a bunch of black debris in the air it happened so fast and then a bunch of glass from my sunroof starts hitting me in the head on my neck falling into my lap going down my shirt and into my coffee. So I pull over off the next exit ramp and pull into and industrial park and I got out and started to sweep glass off of me and out of my car so I can still make it to work on time, I took a couple pics at that time, then I proceeded back towards the highway to make it to work. I get back onto the 101 south and make it to work in goodyear, I cleaned some more glass off of me and called my insurance. This is a huge safety issue, glass landed everywhere. I could have crashed, it could have hit other vehicles, im not injured but it scared me really bad after the explosion I was covered in glass from head to toe.

On [xxx] I was driving when I heard a sudden explosion followed by shattering glass. There was glass in my car and chunks flew off onto the road. It was the panoramic sunroof on my 2012 Hyundai Veloster that had a recall #108 NHTSA campaign # 12v568000. Hyundai humble is not acknowledging my VIN # [xxx] although the car was produced within the time frame and is a safety issue created by the manufacturer. I researched and saw that recalls were supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. I previously filed a complaint o/l on 6/19/25. Case# [xxx] and never received a call back. Please help. Thank you. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On tue 6/17 I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Veloster home when the sunroof glass spontaneously exploded (no notifications)then the sound of shattering glass. There were no cars ahead of me and none behind so it was doubtful there was damage done to other people. I did have small chunks of glass fall on me and in the car. Humble Hyundai dealership can't find the recall. I called the main office it's recall campaign # is 108. The dealership said the recall had to be opened back up so they can see it. Otherwise I will be hit with a bill too high for me to handle. Please help ASAP. Thank you.
On or about may 1, 2025, I was operating my 2013 Hyundai Veloster when flames were observed emanating from under the hood. I immediately pulled into the median and, upon opening the hood, observed an active fire beneath the plastic engine cover. I contacted 911. Before the fire department arrived, a passerby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters from a nearby station arrived shortly thereafter and fully doused the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership. At that time, I was aware of an active recall related to potential brake line issues that could result in an engine compartment fire. After the vehicle remained at the dealership for an extended period, I was informed that Hyundai motor America (“hma”) would send an inspector. Approximately 30 days later, I was contacted by hma’s corporate office and asked to provide documentation, including a copy of the title and insurance information. During this call, I was advised that while repair or replacement of the vehicle was unlikely, hma would “make me whole. ” shortly thereafter, I received written correspondence from hma stating that, following its review of the inspection results, documents, and other information, no product defect was identified as the cause of the incident. The letter concluded that hma would not accept responsibility and denied my request for assistance or compensation.

The car is sluggish and loses power when it is taking off. It is like it is in slow mode. The other issue is that it uses lots of oil. I even had the dealership to repair the valve cover gasket. It should not use oil at the rate.

The car stall when I'm driving.
Over the last year, I’ve had to purchase three air conditioner switches after driving for several years with it being out the first one we replaced caused a small electrical fire as did all of the others. This has been an ongoing issue not just with my car, but my sister‘s in-laws who is a 2014 model I looked online. It has been reported over the years basically since the cars come out of this same issue can you please issue a safety recall before somebody’s house or vehicle or both catches fire completely. This is not safe at all. I have already put in a request for the safety recall on several other occasions this is unacceptable unsafe and a very large problem across the united states since this vehicle has come out please do something.
My car 2015 hyundia Veloster has been under recall since 2021 for connecting rod failure in engine and oil leaking around spark plugs that could cause a fire plus what the other recall is. Hyundai corp refuses to repair my car, it has ksds, oil consumption, refuse to do engine inspection, wanting to charge me for items related to a recall. My car as stated with you before eating oil, poor compression stalls knock loses power I recently had to pay 3200. 00 for catalytic converters so I would have a car only to find out it could happen again due to recall number198. I need someone to help me get this resolve. Why should have to replace my engine when it under recall and you can't sell your car due to that? I have been fighting Hyundai corp for two years I had oil around my spark plugs in 2023, black spark plugs 2024.

The car lost power gradually ;when I was driving ; we were on the freeway and I couldn’t continue driving 60 miles per hour , therefore I turned on the turn signals cause I just could drive at 35 miles per hour and the car just start shaking ; I just look for the next exit by the time we were on risk on the emergency lane for along time cause the next exit was to far from there . And the car was too slow ,when we finally got exit I call and I stop my car and call the mechanic to ask for help and he help me plug in the scanner machine to my car and there was a problem with some cylinders and one valve and I decided to called to the dealer to get an appointment:. My vehicule already was checking for Hyundai but they just text me a message ; they said my car needs to replace a motor ,turbo ; some broken valves causing zero pounds of compression on cylinder 4-long block repair-new intake and exhaust manifolds (including turbo)required due to broken valve sending metal through the entire system -quote long block/intake and exhaust manifolds /turbo /all necessary gaskets and fluids for repair : I just was noted my car was consuming too much oil, cause the car board showed me 3 weeks ago and I need to add oil ,and the mechanic plugged in the scanner; but it doesn’t showed something else ;therefore 3 weeks ago I added 1/4 or more ; then was 2 week ago; I added 1/4 of oil again and then just last week I added 1/4 or more oil again ;I just was checking the oil constantly. ; and it should be noted that the car was not leaking oil but I didn’t understand why it was running out so quickly .

When you put the car in drive it will go in reverse. Happened several times and on the last time caused us to back into a pole and mess up the back bumper. We were trying to go forward but went in reverse. We have video proof but I can't load the video in this document.

Recall 242 rev parking aid sensor, recall 251 remedy not yet available.
I have a 2016 Hyundai Veloster turbo and my ac started making a weird noise coming from my ac controller, I opened and my climate control resistor was burned and smelling and I’m worried about my car getting on fire and I seen this is a common problem in Velosters.
The "touch screen" in the car has warped from heat and no longer responds to touch. Many features and settings for the car are no longer available. Not sure if it's a safety issue; it would depend on the car model and which settings are managed through the touch screen. Since I can't access the settings, I don't know what features or settings are now inaccessible, so I'm reporting the affected equipment as a precaution.
The hvac control knob overheated and burned out in my car. It scorched/charred and melted the plastic switch it was plugged into in the dash. It caused a strong burnt plastic, smokey smell inside the car while I was driving. I thought the car was on fire at first. Thank goodness it wasn’t but it really could have started a fire in the dash of the car under the right conditions. I’ve read numerous accounts online of this same exact issue on this year/model, but no action has been taken by Hyundai to rectify this dangerous design flaw. I’ve also read that it can and usually happens again to the replacement control knob and plug. It’s absolute insanity to replace it with the exact same part knowing full well that it’s most likely going to do the same exact thing again. What if it does cause a fire in the dash the next time while I’m driving? it could possibly severely injure or kill me and any passenger in the car in addition to putting other drivers at risk from a mobile flaming inferno.
While driving the vehicle has stalled/engine shuts off at different speeds and also while the vehicle's steering wheel is turned to move it into a different direction (for example making a right turn at a perpendicular street/road). There is a concern for the operator's safety and others operating around a stalling vehicle especially at higher velocity/speeds and when traffic is heavy. The dealership has recommended an engine replacement, not sure if the dealer has been able to reproduce the problem. Currently, the vehicle has only been inspected by a dealership. The flashing engine light first appeared on 06/07/2024, this would be the second time the vehicle stalled (engine shut off) on the same day.
I was driving on the highway; the speed limit is 70mph. I had the sunroof of my 2017 Hyundai Veloster open to the first stage. The glass in the sunroof literally exploded, (it sounded like a gun going off) blasting shattered glass down on me and all of the interior of the car, (scared the sh!? out of me!) luckily, I wasn't hurt and managed to pull over without any traffic incident, but this could have easily caused personal injury or a collision on the highway at 70mph. It wasn't struck by anything, and the glass was in perfect condition without visual defects, I. E. , chips, scratches etc. It has been turned into my insurance and I am going to request that the new glass gets a coating like the windshield to prevent the glass from coming apart like this in the event that this happens again. I think all sunroof glass should be treated this way from the factory, a broken window or sunroof is enough distraction while driving without being showered in glass.
Passenger side door will not latch or lock. Door remains opened while driving.
Abs component and or fuse is causing pre ignition in the motor thus causing abnormal rpm’s when idling or driving thus further causing damage to the vehicle itself.
In Dec of last year my cars dash lights started flashing no matter which gear I tried the gear would flash on the dash, when I called my extended warranty "car shield ",they recommended that I take it to a repair shop in nearby city and have a diagnostic test performed. I did so,in which after testing they said it was something on side of transmission and they weren't equipped to perform the repairs and needed to be taken to dealership instead. I picked up the vehicle and same issue was present of course, so I had it towed to a dealership and then was contacted by them that they could not do a diagnostic test until the battery was replaced because it was not starting, so I brought a battery and put it on in the place of my old one. I made sure that the vehicle was going to start before leaving and it did with no problem, so I turned it off and was contacted by the dealership saying that it was extensive damage, and car shield had to send out their own personal investigator and they refused to fix any issues and would not pay for diagnostic services or the $10,000 to cover the repairs due to unknown circumstances causing the fuse box next to battery to melt as well as damage to my wiring harness and the wiring harness for the alternator somehow. Now I have a vehicle that I paid for less than a year ago and a no good extended warranty paid for as well and a vehicle with less than 100000 miles that's useless.
The blower fan only blows slightly and the knob does not work. This was a known issue with the 2014, but not the 2013. This causes a significant safety concern to someone living in extreme heat, especially children and the elderly.
Our teen daughter drives a 2012 Veloster that has an open recall that Hyundai has no solution or fix for. Today, her car started to have a burning smell inside the vehicle that is linked to this issue. Hyundai needs to fix this now or buy this car back from us immediately. This is recall 23v651000. I need a car that works and is not a safety hazard!.
Currently there are two recalls on the 2012 Veloster. I took our car in yesterday to woodhouse Hyundai in omaha, ne to fix the recall 242. However, they said they "diagnosed" it first and would order the part. This is an urgent fix and they don't have the parts on hand to fix it right away?? also, the newer recall 251. . . How long until that has a solution to fix it? both are extremely dangerous and they aren't fixing them? what is the solution, then to ensure the safety of my teen driver who uses this vehicle? this is unreal.
My cars lights (headlights, gage cluster lights, dash lights, radio screen light, etc. . ) and screen for my radio and back up camera, all turn off by themselves, for maybe 1 second or 2, while driving. This happens randomly, no warning, no special conditions, just out of nowhere, and for no reasons. Since I bought the car in September of 2020 (used, as is) it has done it now 7 or 8 times, with tonight being the most recent occurrence. I don't know how to have it checked or verified by a technician because there's no forewarning before it happens. It's completely random and unexpected. It's very scary, especially with my children in the car.
Hyundai recall 251, since there is no remedy available, how will Hyundai compensate me? I purchased my 2014 Veloster turbo Jan 2015 for $23,500, dealer tells me its safe to drive, however recall tells me not to park it in my garage as it can cause a fire. If it can start a fire when it is parked, what can it do when I am driving it? wanda wasson 541 829 1234.
The sunroof spontaneously shattered. I was driving on an interstate highway with the sunroof tilted forward for ventilation.
My car battery died and I changed the battery. I noticed that the engine lights were on, so I made an appointment to get it checked as well as complete a state inspection. My car fob started acting up and they (halls Jeep) told me to take it to the Hyundai service center because they have the equipment to do so. I took it to the priority Hyundai and told them of the issue as well as reminded them that there was a recall issue relating to the software in the vehicle. After waiting 4 hours of back and forth, trying to find out what was going on with the car, I saw parked to the side. I asked about it and then another mechanic came and told me that they locked the car and were now unable to unlock it. I told them that there should be some emergency entrance, as all vehicle with a fob has a safety feature to unlock manually. After another while, the service manager decided that the locking issue might be due to the car not being updated (the recall issue) and gave me a loaner car. The service manager also said he did not know how to rectify it and that he would need to contact a different department in Hyundai. I received a call from the manager now saying that it is a mechanical issue and that they are not responsible for anything that happened to my car when they are fixing another issue. I now have a car that I can't lock/unlock and I am not sure what else is wrong due to the software issues. Th software recall does not address all the electrical issues and the dealerships don't know all the issues with the car.
Passenger front door is inoperative from the exterior. It can only be opened from the inside, which is a safety issue if someone is being followed and needs to quickly enter the vehicle. It is the same issue as NHTSA id number: 11286381 that was reported 2. 5 years ago, but this is now happening to me and there are several reports of this on Hyundai forums.
When driving the car, it will intermittingly hesitate and as I press on the pedal the engine revs up but does not increase in speed. This has happened multiple times in the past month and is extremely dangerous. The other day I almost got hit by the car behind me and luckily there was an inlet I was able to pull into, stop and put into park, then when I put it into drive it worked again. As I came to next traffic light, it did it again and I was unable to pull over due to traffic, I put vehicle into neutral and then back into drive and it worked again to get me home. It took me 3 weeks to get an appointment with dealership and they say there is nothing wrong with it because it is not coming up on the computer. Very scared every time I need to drive it as I do not know when or where it will happen again.

On March 8, 2023, I was waiting at a red light and since the weather was really nice, it was cloudy and not too cold I decided to open my sunroof and when all of the sudden I felt glass raining all over me, my sunroof exploded! I got little cuts over my face and arms because of the glass, and my back and arms felt itchy because of the tiny little pieces of glass. I was on my way to pick up the girls from daycare, I'm so grateful they were not with me at the incident moment and that the car was not on motion. Now, they are charging me over $1000 dlls on repairs. I just got this car less than 2 months ago, I barely pay my first payment and this happens!?.
While driving on I-85 near atlanta, GA on 12/16/2022 at approximately 5:30 pm the sunroof exploded. The sunroof cover was closed so there was not an injury due to the shattering glass.
I was driving my 2016 Hyundai Veloster turbo when I started to hear a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. At this time I also noticed a decline in power and the check engine light came on. I made an appointment to bring the car to my local Hyundai dealership to have the car looked at. While en route to the dealership, the car suddenly made a loud bang and a profusion of smoke came out of the engine and engulfed the car, inside & out, making it impossible for not only me to see but also limited visibility for the person following me, which was extremely dangerous. I couldn't see or breathe and had to rapidly exit the car on the side of a busy road with no shoulder. The engine completely failed and the car was not drivable. I had the car towed to the Hyundai dealership where they told me the engine had seized and needed to be completely replaced. Although my VIN is not yet included in engine recall 20v746000, my car has the 1. 6 liter gdi gamma engine included in that recall. In addition, the exact chain of events that I experienced have been described by others whose cars are included in the recall which describes connecting rod bearings inside the engine wearing prematurely (creating a knocking sound and reduced engine power), causing engine damage. I am requesting an investigation into this incident as I feel that my car should be included in the recall. It was a very dangerous incident and I don't want others to needlessly experience this same problem, possibly with more harmful consequences.
Driver entered the car and closed the driver side door. Car was in park in driveway. Driver tried to vent the moon roof and the glass of the moon roof shattered. Glass rained down upon driver and flew all over the driveway and the lawn.
The climate control knob does not function properly on my car. I removed the climate control panel from my car and found metal parts of the knob to be black and burnt and plastic parts to be melted and disformed causing the part to malfunction. All that’s needs to be replaced to fix the problem is the knob itself on the climate control panel. However, the knob is not sold individually and you must buy the whole climate control panel which costs over $200. It also seems to pose a potential fire risk if it heats up to the point that parts are melting/burning.
In the manual car to get in reverse there is a "lock out" sling that only allows you to go in reverse when you pull up on it. When the manual stick shift goes back to neutral the lock out valve pops closed only allowing gears 1-6 the lock out is not coming down and is sticking so you think you are going into 1st gear but you are still in reverse. Basically imagine you go into reverse in a parking lot, putting it in drive and when you give the car gas it goes backwards. I have had almost 15 incidents in the last 2 weeks after I figured out what was happening. This is dangerous and has caused many close calls hitting other vehicles. I am bringing the car back to huffhines Hyundai but only after a week of not being offered a loaner car and allowing me to drive in this car after at least 3 direct calls about the problem and the danger of having to drive the vehicle.
