1 Structure problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 04/19/2023

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving into a parking lot, a small rock fell on the panoramic sunroof and the sunroof shattered. The contact stated that the shade guard was closed at the time of the failure. There was no injury sustained. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that their location did not perform sunroof glass replacement. The dealer referred the contact to an auto glass repair shop, where the shattered glass was removed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where pictures of the failure were taken and sent to the manufacturer. The manufacturer informed the dealer that they could not cover the sunroof glass replacement because the moving part of the sunroof glass was not shattered. The contact followed up with the warranty department and was informed that the dealer had denied repairing the vehicle under the warranty because the failure was caused by a rock. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

2 Structure problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 05/10/2013

On Friday may 10 I took my Veloster to the dealer as I was considering a possible trade in. The sales manager did a full check of my car and test drove it as well in an effort to make an acceptable offer for trade. My car was in perfect condition with no damage whatsoever. After discussing all the details, I decided not to trade in my car. I left and and drove to a local theater. While driving I heard an unusual noise as if something had fallen/blown off my car. It was dark and since I didn't see anything I figured it was something on the road. Well when I got to the theater (about 5 miles away) and got out of the car, my passenger advised me that the strip on the passenger side roof that is normally present as a clip-in mechanism was missing. I can only conclude that it blew off while I was driving. I feel for the person behind me who either got hit by it or had to do some evasive maneuvering to avoid impact. This could be a very serious issue, especially at higher speeds. I don't know if anyone was injured or not, but Hyundai needs to be aware of its potential serious hazard. -the dealer wants me to pay for replacement/repair of a defective part even though I am still under my bumper to bumper warranty. I can assure you that I will not be paying to have it replaced as it is Hyundai's responsibility. With less than 10000 miles there is no excuse for this type of issue to occur.

3 Structure problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

I was driving my Hyundai Veloster on a smooth paved hwy, going about 60 miles/hr, on a sunny day, sun shade open/ moonroof closed when the moonroof exploded (imploded). There were no other vehicles near me and no debris in the roadway. The explosion was extremely loud, sending shattered glass throughout the car, in my clothes and hair. Thankfully my 2 yr old grand daughter was not in her car seat in the rear, she probably would have lost her eyesight or worse. The explosion was so loud, it sounded like a truck ran into the car. I closed my eyes for a few seconds because of the glass falling down on me. I'm not sure how I was able to keep from losing control of the steering. I was terrified and still have not wanted to drive the car since.

4 Structure problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

New vehicle was parked on the street. At 8:00 am I was informed by a fellow worker that it appeared my vehicle was damaged and there was glass all over it. I found that the skylight had burst upward and outward. It was about 80 degrees at the time. The day before was above 90 degrees and the vehicle was parked in same location, without incident. I called dealer who referred me to national service. They came and towed car to another dealer closer to home. Day 8 and dealer claims to have replaced glass, side rails and now needs to replace deflector that all were damaged. Says soonest repair to complete July 2nd pm. Updated 8/14/12 updated 08/15/12.
