Normal driving habits on the 2008 Veracruz. After hearing a large clunk going speeds variable from 5-45 mph, the accelerator is unresponsive and vehicle is unsafe. Restarted engine multiple times to work "normally" again. It appears that Hyundai is aware of the issue and suggests replacing the throttle position sensor ($41. 00) and an upgrade the the vehicle. This needs to be a recall because if this happens at the wrong time, someone could die from it.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and decelerated. She attempted to accelerate but it continued to lose power. The vehicle continued to move forward but no more than 10 mph. The vehicle was taken to a service station and the mechanic stated that the tps (related to the transmission) may have been defective. The vehicle was repaired at the local dealer after it was towed. The manufacturer had not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 14,000. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000. The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate normally when she engaged the accelerator pedal. Recently, when accelerating approximately 42 mph, the vehicle hesitated and shifted into the neutral position. She took the vehicle to an authorized dealer several times where she was informed that the software was defective. The software was reprogrammed four times but the failure continued to occur and became progressively worse over time. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they were working on the failure but offered no assistance when the complaint was filed. The current mileage is approximately 38,400. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000. Updated 10/28/10 the consumer stated the problem with the performance of the vehicle involved more than the automatic transmission. The problem includes the electronic software operating the vehicle. The vehicle has not stalled again, but it does continue to accelerate sporadically. The consumer stated during her last visit, the service department attempted to correct the problems. She was informed that a new transmission was installed and the software was reloaded again for the electronics controlling the vehicles performance. Updated 11/01/10.
