1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 06/23/2021

At about 60mph in a passing lane going up a fairly steep hill, I pressed the accelerator to downshift while passing. The accelerator pedal pulled away from my foot toward the floor. The car began uncontrollably accelerating. I was able to override this with the brakes, but each time I took my foot off the brake the car again downshifted and accelerated maximally. This was repeated at least five times. Shifting into neutral resulted in a high revving engine on three occasions. Turning cruise control on and off or canceling had no effect. I was able to stay on the brakes and get off the highway. I then shifted into neutral and the engine started over revving. I then turned off the ignition and restarted the car, which to this point is behaving normally. The floor mat was not interfering with the accelerator. The accelerator distinctly pulled away from my foot and went to the floor. There was no pedal confusion.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 06/19/2017

Wife parked car on driveway sloping downhill toward garage. The vehicle was placed in park and the key was removed. While she was out of vehicle unloading young child from car seat, 6-year-old boy climbed up into from of vehicle. The boy was unable to reach the brake pedal and the key was out of vehicle (in purse with wife). He was able to easily pull on the automatic shift lever and transition the vehicle into neutral (again without the ability to reach the brake pedal & no key in vehicle). The car rolled downhill and pined wife between side of garage and vehicle. Luckily, the sheet metal side panel of car deflected enough to save her and once the car ran into something in the garage and stopped she was able to escape. We are awaiting medical attention but she has severe bruising and possible cracked ribs. Vehicle was found in neutral with no key in ignition. After starting vehicle (with key) reversing it, placing it back in park, and removing key, the issue with the shift-lever failing to lock could not be immediately re-created. Vehicle is available for further inspection.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veracruz

Over the past month or so, this Veracruz has suddenly and without warning accelerated at top speed, and I could not stop it with the brakes. I had to turn the engine off in the middle of traffic. This is incredibly dangerous-I dont even want to drive the car. Someone could easily get injured or worse.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

When traveling at speeds of 25 to 35 miles an hour through residential areas the vehicle sputters and the check engine light comes on. I took it to the dealer in marlton, NJ but the check engine light had gone off and they stated that they could not do diagnostic test if the engine light is not on (that makes no sense to me). This happened at 112,000 miles and it is still happening now at 140,000 miles with no resolve. I've had the spark plugs changed, the battery and alternator changed and had the mechanic ride with me in the vehicle to witness the issue. When the vehicle sputtered with the mechanic in the car they still could not explain to me what is the cause. I asked if they could check the fuel pump, but yet again they stated that without the check engine light on they would not be able to run a test as they need to know the code that is registering for the error.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

Vehicle stopped while driving without warning. Unable to start. Dangerous situation, unable to control vehicle. I was about to enter the interstate and loss power. Had to have the vehicle towed. Had this same issue with the alternator recall. Had to have the vehicle towed to a dealer. Dealer said it was engine failure. No warning lights came on dash, no issues. With the previous alternator recall, oil was dripping onto the alternator and the vehicle shut down while driving. I did not feel safe driving the vehicle as I did not know when this would happen. This vehicle is not safe to drive.

Vehicle driven on highway at 60 mph and engine check sign came on, then car sign as antitheft sign appeared than tpc sign and navigation direction sign in mirror all kept blinking on and off. Vehicle started to slow down but speedometer stuck to 60 mph. Vehicle dropped speed gradually and I was afraid that other vehicles coming behind at full speed may hit my vehicle if they are not aware of my vehicle slowing down. I had to pulled the vehicle in shoulder lane and started my emergency blinkers on. Blinkers were going on and off and warning bell were also going on and off. Damaged the battery of my vehicle. Contact Hyundai customer care center and they informed me that the recall campaign 121 does not have remedy to this recall. This is very unsafe and cause an accident, crash, fire or serious injury or fatality, since it affecting to the speed of the vehicle and speedometer dose not responds to the current speed of vehicle. 10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 10/05/2014

This vehicle went out of control when trying to park. When I tried to move stick to park, the vehicle took off with 70 - 80 miles an hour. Once it took off lke plane, I had no control over this vehicle. I tried to stop it but breaks did not work, steering was locked and can not turn off ignition either. Vehicle travelled about 800 - 1000 ft before it stopped. Vehicle finally came to stop by trees. Steering, breaks and gas nothing worked as expected and I had no control over this vehicle. This vehicle went through this ordeal in children play area and luckily it was early in the morning and no one was in play area. Imagine if this vehicle was on interstate, major intersection or us / state hwy. This vehicle is road hazard and may cause serios accidents and possibly loss of life. I have also contacted Hyundai and they have opened up case to check but want NHTSA to investigate the issue so we have neutral outcome v/s just Hyundai. I wanted to bring up this matter to your attention so proper investigation should be completed for this vehicle to avoid loss of property or lives. Please contact me for more details.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

On about June 23, 2014 my wife was driving her 2008 Hyundai Veracruz at about 65mph. It started slowing down even though the gas pedal was pushed. She pulled over and shut the car off while trying to decide what to do. She decided to turn the car back on and see how it drove. It seemed fine the rest of the way home. Before I could take it into the repair shop the check engine light turned off by itself. I thought maybe there was just a mistake with the light coming on and everything was fine. About two weeks later, while driving at about the same speed, it started slowing down by itself again. She pulled off to the side and shut the car off again. I had her turn it on a couple minutes later and everything was fine again. The check engine light has stayed on this time and I took it right to the shop to get fixed. I ran a code reader and everything sounded like it was the throttle position sensor. Well the shop tells me that it's the throttle body that needs replaced. I took it in on Monday, July 14 and they said they had to order the part and it would be here on Thursday, July 17. So Thursday we dropped the car off and waited for the call that it was done. Didn't happen!! we finally called them around 5:00 and they said that they were still waiting on the part and it should definitely be done by Saturday, July 19. Saturday morning they call and say that they don't know where the part it and that is lost somewhere!?!? now they're saying it will definitely be done by Tuesday, July 22. We'll see. I have seen numerous complaints about this same issue and the concerns that there is a design problem with the throttle body/ throttle position sensor but Hyundai doesn't seem to think so.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

My esc off light keeps coming on the dashboard causing the car to not shift out of park. There was a recall of the stop lamp switch which was performed in 2009. I read in a newspaper article that there is an update to this recall which will be performed starting in June 2013. Dealer refused to perform the recall work at this time and Hyundai USA states that the recall (campaign 110) is not valid for 2007 vehicles, only 2008-2009. I am very concerned, this is a serious safety issue and Hyundai refuses to repair my vehicle.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 12/17/2011

I pulled into a gas station at a low speed; there were four pumps in line. At the first one a car was being fueled so I waned to move to the second pump. When I started to brake the car kept moving forward then I was practically standing on the brake but the car kept moving causing me to hit the stationary car. According to the police report her damage was minor; mine was moderate. The officer stated in the report I was inattentive regardless of me telling him twice about the braking and/or acceleration problem. Hyundai sent an "independent" tech after the car was repaired and they said it was not their problem. I requested that company inspection from the first day of the accident; I was informed it would take 4 to 6 weeks. This is a safety issue; my foot was firmly on the brake that morning. Worried driver. . . . . . . . . . . . .

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

Normal driving habits on the 2008 Veracruz. After hearing a large clunk going speeds variable from 5-45 mph, the accelerator is unresponsive and vehicle is unsafe. Restarted engine multiple times to work "normally" again. It appears that Hyundai is aware of the issue and suggests replacing the throttle position sensor ($41. 00) and an upgrade the the vehicle. This needs to be a recall because if this happens at the wrong time, someone could die from it.
