Reporting an unintended driver’s frontal airbag deployment that occurred without a collision and resulted in occupant injuries. My son was leaving e?s fitness in [xxx]. He entered my 2010 Infiniti Fx35 and sat in the driver’s seat. The vehicle was parked and stationary. There was no collision, impact, curb strike, sudden stop, or other crash event immediately preceding the deployment. My son turned the vehicle on. Upon starting the vehicle, the driver’s frontal airbag suddenly deployed from the steering wheel into his face and arm/wrist. The vehicle had not begun driving when the deployment occurred. My son sustained injuries to his face and arm/wrist. He describes the injuries to his arm/wrist as burns from the airbag deployment. Photographs taken following the incident show visible injury and discoloration of his wrist and lower forearm. I have preserved photographs of his injuries and detailed photographs showing the deployed driver’s airbag and opened steering-wheel airbag cover. Unknown airbag history I purchased this vehicle used on xxx the vehicle passed through sierra auction phoenix shortly before I purchased it. Auction inormation records approximately 111,521 miles. My purchase agreement approximately two months later records 111,629 miles. R Infiniti in [xxx]. The consultant checked Infiniti’s database using the vehicle information and advised me that he did not find an applicable airbag recall request for NHTSA investigation I am requesting that NHTSA document and investigate this incident because: the driver’s frontal airbag deployed while the vehicle was parked and stationary. There was no collision or impact immediately preceding deployment. Deployment occurred when the vehicle was being started. The deployment resulted in occupant injuries to the face and arm/wrist. The history of the driver’s airbag/inflator is currently unknown. No physical examination has yet determined whether the driver’s airbag and information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C.

The dashboard has been cracking with Infiniti offer no help. Now I attempted another time to address the issue with them, and the cracking has happened in the passenger airbag area, where my concern is should this airbag deploy, there will be sharp dashboard plastic flying as a result.
