Tank Assembly Problems of Infiniti FX35

2004 Infiniti Fx35 awd: fuel gauge faulty reading: the fuel gauge shows incorrect fuel gauge reading and low fuel light comes on when the tank is more than 1/2 full. The gauge reading can vary by about quarter tank at most times.

I just received an email pertaining to this campaign notice: NHTSA campaign id number : 10v074 subject : instrument panel fuel gauge the Infiniti fx models are affected with this notice. I have noticed that my fuel gauge empty light will come on, even if there is fuel still in the tank.

I own a 2005 awd Infiniti Fx35. I was driving on the highway to work and I heard a loud noise indicating that the car was kicking up something underneath it. I did not see anything in the road but it became apparent later that I must have driven over some small debris in the road. I was close to the exit I take for work and I proceeded to drive off the highway. As I exited the highway I noticed that my car was leaking some liquid. The smell of the liquid appeared to be gasoline. I watched my gas gauge go from almost full to 3/4 full at a more rapid pace than normal. I brought the car immediately to the nearest Infiniti dealer and when they put the car up on the lift they confirmed that there was a significant puncture in the gas tank on the driver side of the undercarriage of the vehicle. I have been told by Infiniti that I need to have my gas tank replaced. I have done a bit of research and determined that earlier this year there had been an NHTSA campaign id number 06v003000 relating to the 2005 Nissan murano fuel system, gasoline storage: tank assembly. The Nissan murano is the equivalent Nissan vehicle to the Infiniti Fx35. It appears to me that the campaign identified above describes the situation I encountered with my vehicle. I provided this information to the dealer who contacted Infiniti and I am continuing to follow up with inifniti consumer affairs to attempt to have Infiniti address this issue but I have had no luck so far.
