1 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 04/06/2012

On 04/06/2012 I was driving on the 60e freeway in the #2 lane going 65 mph and the car suddenly lost all acceleration. It dropped from 65-40 within seconds and the car would not respond when I pressed the gas pedal. I was barely able to get to the right shoulder without causing an accident (this happened during rush hour). The shoulder was extremely narrow and the car was completely disabled. Within minutes an rctc tow truck appeared and the driver asked what had happened. When I explained how the car had lost all acceleration, he told me it sounded like I ran out of gas. The gauge on the dash said there was still a quarter of a tank of gas left and I showed it to him, so I didn't believe that this could be possible. He offered to put a gallon of gas in the tank to see if it would start up and as soon as he did that the car started up with no problem. He directed me to pyrite st to fill up my tank and when I got there the car took almost 20 gallons! even though the gauge read that there was still 1/4 tank of gas! after looking online this appears to be a very common problem and I'm upset that Infiniti has not issued a recall knowing that this affects so many people. This is a serious safety issue. I drive 82 miles a day on the fwy and being female, I am afraid that this could happen at any time and I would be stranded. It is also so dangerous to lose all power on the freeway! I feel this should be reported as a recall item and that Infiniti should be compelled to recognize the problem as the widespread issue that it is, and complete the necessary repairs to make this an operationally safe vehicle.

6 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

March 5. 2012, on the way home from picking my son up at basketball practice, I noticed the car losing power. I told my son, something was wrong with the car, he asked what and I said I'm pressing the gas the car is not responding. At the point where the street became two lanes, I got over into the #2 lane (closest to the curb). I was truly panicked because I was on a very dark street (indiana in riverside) trying to get to van buren so that I could enter the freeway. The car shut off completely just about a half block from vanburen. I called my husband to let him know what had happened and his first question was do you have gas?? I said yes, the gauge says I have a quarter of a tank, so I know it?s not gas. The aaa tech arrived and asked what happened. When I explained he said, it sounds like you're out of gas. I said no that can't be it, here look at the fuel gauge, it says I have a ¼ of a tank. He said ok but let's try gas first anyway. The technician put 2 gallons of gas in the car, it started right up and then the fuel gauge went from ¼ of a tank to ¾ (miraculous for 2 gallons of gas). I went on the internet and did a google search using the terms infinity fuel gauge and it lit up like a slot machine. I can't tell you how many sites and blogs were filled with complaints about this issue. I saw on autoblog. Com where Nissan recalled 05-08 infinity qx56 for fuel gauge inaccuracies so my question is why weren't the G35's recalled? imagine if I had actually made it to the freeway and this happened. I am upset and I want my fuel gauge fixed. My husband is content to calculate miles between fill ups but I don't have time for that nonsense. I am on the road constantly, I need to be able to look at my gauge and know when to go the gas station.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 03/23/2011

I purchase my 2004 G35 last year and about a month or 2 later I started to notice a strop gas smell. Didn't pay no mind to it until when I moved into a new apartment and wlak out to my car an notied a puddle underneath my car and it was gas. I also nitced that when ever I fill up my car is when the spillage happens the most and I lose alot of gas until it get below 1/2 tank then it stops spilling ut but you can still smell the gas. I have turned it into my local Infiniti dealship and they have yet to mention to me what it is. Just because there happen to be a small dent on the tank underneath they say that that is what is causing the leak. Just doesnt make any sense to me when it only spills when its full and not when its less then half. They want to replace the whole tank and charge me $1600+ to replace the tank. Does this fall uunder any kind of recall fro fuel leakage?.

8 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

Fuel gauge seems to drastically drop when car is turned off and then turned back on again. After a couple of days car will read fuel empty when it still has about a quarter of a tank of gas. When refilling car with fuel, car will only take about 15 gallons of gas and then register full again. This car has a 20 gallon tank.

9 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

The fuel gauge on my car has been incorrect for the past 3 months. It would suddenly dip down to empty even after traveling only 20 miles on a full tank of gas. The gage would bounce up and down and has caused me to panic many times while diving on the freeway. The only way to truly know how much is left in the tank is by resetting my trip monitor after each fueling and not to exceed 220 miles before my next refill. I have a cousin who has the same exact car with the same problem.
