36 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 04/03/2007

I experienced 'sudden' or 'unintended' acceleration with my 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe twice in the last 3 months. The first time, in February or early March, my wife and I were at an intersection waiting for the left turn light. The car was stopped. All of a sudden the car's motor began to rev up. I pressed firmly on the brake so the car wouldn't move and shifted into neutral (it's an automatic). The car revved up alarmingly. I shut off the ignition. When the light changed, I restarted the car; all was normal. We continued on home. The only reason I didn't run into the person in front of me was because my foot was firmly on the brake. On April 3, 2007, I was backing into a parking space. The care was drifting at idle in reverse and my foot was on the brake. Again, the engine began to race and I hit the car behind me -- not very hard because it was very close. My foot was definitely not on the accelerator when this happened. The next day I took the car to Infiniti. Three weeks later they say they can find nothing wrong. Because this has happened twice in 3 months, I consider the car unsafe to drive; Infiniti agrees. I've left the car with the dealer and am waiting to see if they'll buy it back from me or, at least, give me something on a trade-in for a 2008 g37 coupe. At this point, we're out $36,000. Some people may continue to drive their cars in spite of this problem and hope, because it's intermittent, that the car won't kill someone or cause a terrible accident. I don't feel I can take that chance so I gave up on the car.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 04/03/2007

I experienced 'sudden' or 'unintended' acceleration with my 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe twice in the last 3 months. I specifically was not pressing on the accelerator in either instance though my wife can testify in the first instance that I was not. I was alone during the second occurrence so there are no witnesses. The first time my wife and I were sitting at an intersection waiting for the left turn light. The car was stopped. All of a sudden the car's motor began to rev up. I pressed firmly on the brake so it wouldn't move and shifted into neutral (it's an automatic). The revs picked up and the tach was moving rapidly higher. I shut off the ignition. When the light changed, I turned the ignition on and all was normal. We continued on home. The only reason I didn't run into the person in front of me was because my foot was firmly on the brake. This happened in February or early March. On April 3, 2007 I was backing into a parking space. The car was in reverse and my foot was slightly on the brake moving from the accelerator to the brake and back again. Again, the engine began to race and I hit the car behind me -- not very hard because it was very close. My foot wasn't on the accelerator when this happened. The next day I took the car to Infiniti. Three weeks later they can find nothing wrong. Because this has happened twice in three months, the car's unsafe to drive and Infiniti agrees. I've left the car with the dealer and am waiting to see if they'll buy it back from me or, at least, give me something on a trade-in for a 2008 g37 coupe. At this time, we're out $36,000. Some people will continue to drive their cars with this problem and hope, as it's intermittent, that it doesn't kill someone or cause a terrible accident, I don't feel I can take that chance so, thus, I gave the car back.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 07/21/2006

: the contact stated since purchase while traveling various speeds, the engine revs while the brake pedal is depressed, causing the vehicle to accelerate. To eliminate the revving and acceleration, the brake pedal must remain depressed and the engine turned off. The vehicle has been to the dealership multiple times, but the problem could not be duplicated. Once while parking the vehicle, the engine revved and hit concrete steps and another vehicle. During this incident, the vehicle accelerated so fast, the airbags deployed. There was a police report filed at the scene and the contact sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it awaits inspection by the insurance company. . Updated 09/06.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 03/25/2006

Since purchasing the car in December 2004, I have experienced three instances where, while coming to a stop at an intersection, the car seemed to accelerate on its own with my foot off the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal depressed; to stop the forward motion of the car, it was necessary to shift the transmission into neutral. After shifting back and forth between neutral and drive several times, with the brake heavily depressed, engine speed eventually resumed its normal level. In all three cases, the car was on a declining surface with the front pointing downwards. Now, whenever I come to a stop, I keep my hand on the shift lever ready to slam it forward into neutral, just in case. I have reported all three instances to Infiniti and had them inspect the car after the second incident. As expected, they found nothing and did nothing.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

Unexplainable/unexpected revving of my engine occurred at a stop light while my foot was on the brake. The engine revved up 5k rpm. No apparent reason for this to occur. Normal route taken from work involves stop and go traffic with multiple stop lights. About 5 miles into journey home, engine revved at the light. Averted damage by placing vehicle in park and turning ignition off. Car has peformed normal since incident 2 weeks ago.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 02/27/2005

On 2 occasions while stopping at a traffic light the vehicle accelerated by itself. Had someone been walking in front they would have been run over by the time I was able to stop the vehicle. Car was brought back to dealer, and after 3 days of diagnostics they could not find the problem. I only had the car less than 2 weeks when these 2 incidents happened, and I do not want to get behind the wheel of this car anymore . Told this to Infiniti, and they were checking with dealer ,and suppose to get back to me.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti G35

Failure Date: 08/20/2004

I have a 2003 G35 sedan with approximately 13,000 miles on it. While traveling down a sidestreet at 35 mph approaching a stop sign at a major four lane cross street, removed foot from accelerator pedal to begin slowing down the vehicle when the car spontaneously revved at high rpm (over 6000 rpm). Had to apply the brake forcefully to attempt to stop the vehicle and the car powered through the stop sign and into the first cross lane of the four lane street. A car on the cross street had to swerve to avoid striking our vehicle. The car could only be stopped by throwing the shift lever into neutral. On two previous occasions when the vehicle was about one month old, experienced a sudden spontaneous revving of the engine while stopped at a signal. The two previous occurrences did not result in loss of control of the vehicle. On the most recent occurrence, I had the vehicle towed to our servicing dealer (autoplace Infiniti), where they claimed to have conducted a thorough diagnostic. They reported that they were unable to find any defects, computer error codes or manufacturer service bulletins on this problem, and, of course, were unable to duplicate the problem. I have written to Infiniti consumer affairs about the problem as we are terrified to drive the vehicle and it has been idle in our garage the past three weeks awaiting a response from Infiniti as to this serious problem.
