2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

I was driving my vehicle on a state highway with no breakdown lane, only a soft shoulder going about 70 mph in the middle lane. There was a vehicle in front over me going about 65 mph and the furthest left lane was moving closer to my speed. When there was an opening, I signaled and began changing lanes when the vehicle began jerking and losing power. There was a car approaching fast in that left lane and also the vehicle that was behind me in the middle lane began closing in. I nearly caused a three car pile up trying get over to the soft shoulder. These vehicles are equipped with a vq37vhr motor which Infiniti equipped with a paper gasket in the depths of the motor called a galley gasket. Its cheap fragile design causes loss of power and for the vehicle to not exceed 2500 rpms which is very unsafe for highway driving as many times it is necessary to safely navigate or even exit the roadway. The paper gasket causes inevitable demise to the motor allowing oil to enter where it should not. This is all before the check engine light even illuminates. Once the light comes on, it will display a code p0011 and/or p0021 which calls for the variable valve timing solenoid to be addressed. I replaced both, changed the oil, and the car drove fine for a few days then the same thing repeated. After going to numerous shops and them either not wanting to take on the job or not knowing what else the issue may be, I went to the Infiniti dealership and was told that I need a new motor. After extensive research, I've come across thousands of owners experiencing the same issue. The more handy ones with time have discovered this Nissan cork paper gasket causing the issue. Infiniti designer and manufactured these motors with poor quality gaskets then charge the customer upwards to $3000 to fix the problem they caused through their own negligence or over $5000 for a new motor.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

Between 40-50 mph, on a busy rural highway, the car would occasionally (once in 3 months) go into limp mode. This problem is now occurring weekly! you cannot accelerate more 2,000 rpms when this happens. You can manually shift the transmission to a higher gear to get to a safe spot to pull over. However, it feels like the transmission might fall out of the car when shifting. Most of the time, when you cut the car off and restart it, it runs as normal. It's like the computer resets. As of late, I have to cut the car off and restart twice. This is beginning to happen more frequently, like once or twice a week. We have consulted with a dealer, and have tried several recommendations. We have new air filters and mas air sensors. This did not correct the problem. After further investigation, we found a dealership who admitted that they have seen or heard of this problem. The service advisor said that this could be a transmission issue. We have an appointment on 12-13-2019 with this dealership.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 01/12/2018

Please recall this car because I established a car engine problem at Infiniti miami center. The car was sold to me by a liar from a dealership. He sold a car without any problems. But less then one month it shows the big problem. I have all proofs. The car is dangerous to drive. If you recall the car it can save my life, my family lives and other drivers. Please help me. While I was driving the car was just stopped at the road. I was very scared. Something very dangerous with the car. And the car sometimes lower its speed to extremely low. And I need to start up the car to start driving again. And the dealership refused to help me. He steal my money and get me off from their office. Very rude and not trustful dealership. I wish to return the car to them and take my money back. It's a fraud happened to me! on infinity center told me it's extremely dangerous to drive that car. And it's not start up often, or changed its speed very fast.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 09/15/2017

I was driving down the freeway and because of traffic, I had to come to stop. I push in the clutch to try and take the car out of gear and the clutch pedal is soft and goes to the floor. This results in a longer stopping distance and I almost hit the car in front of me. Since I couldn't take the car out of gear, the car dies as I come to a stop. The traffic begins to move again and I attempt to start the car. The car lurches from the starter and the car still in gear. The car does not start, but I am able to get the car out of gear and make it a halfway onto the left shoulder. From here I am able to start the engine but still can't get the car in gear as cars start moving quickly past. Pumping the clutch pedal does nothing to build pressure, but after revving the engine slightly, it seems to build a bit of pressure and I am then able to get the car in gear and very unsafely (max is only 20mph in first gear) make it to the right lane to exit the freeway. I crawl under the car and find leaking clutch fluid that appears to be coming from inside the bell housing. The car only has 50k miles and is only 6 years old. I put myself and my family at risk that day and feel like the failure in the clutch hydraulic system is flawed and is a huge safely concern.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 08/23/2017

After the car has been driven for 20 minutes or more, it starts revving on its own. It happens mostly when I am entering my garage. I have to stop, back up, then go forward to get in because I have a side garage. I have to keep my foot on the brake to keep from surging forward. I have also had this problem when stopped at a stoplight and have almost hit the car in front of me because it surges forward forcefully. If I cut it off and re-start the engine, it stops surging. I mentioned this to my dealership and he said that if it is not doing it when I take it in, then they probably cant find out what the problem is. This has been an issue with my infinity for about one year now.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 01/08/2017

On January 8, 2017, I was pulling into a parking spot in a local hardware store's parking lot and the car started to accelerate on its own accord. I had to press down on the brake pedal hard to stop the car, while all the time the car was still aggressively accelerating on its own. Thinking my foot had inadvertently been pushing on the gas pedal while also braking, I pulled my foot off of the brake pedal momentarily, but this caused the car to lurch forward and actually jump the curb with the front wheels. I immediately slammed the brakes back on and quickly shifted the transmission from drive to park, all the while the engine is still revving and trying to move forward. Once in park, I proceeded to push the start button and the engine stopped. I re-started the car at that point, but the dangerous condition did not return. I have driven the car since this episode with no reoccurrence, but it is quite concerning to me. I was going to let my sixteen year old daughter drive the car to school, but not now.

Infiniti G37, after warm usually more then 30min of driving will intermittently go into low and high acceleration on its own. As if you are braking with your left foot and then giving it gas on and off with right foot. My wife has also described complete loss of power when the condition occurs and she tries to accelerate. She feels it could be a dangerous combination if it happens at the wrong time. We did schedule for a service appointment and hope this will help others with similar condition.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 09/15/2012

2008 Infiniti G37s with a 5 speed automatic transmission with 41,000 miles - I was entering the freeway going about 55 mph and there was an 18 wheeler in front of me having a hard time picking up speed. Before passing, I tapped my brake, downshifted from 4th to 3rd gear with my left paddle shifter near the steering wheel and proceeded to get in the lane to the left of the merging lane onto the freeway. I was halfway in the lane and hit the gas but there was no response for 3-5 seconds. I had cars coming up behind me at 65-70 mph and my cars transmission was lagging, it was basically in neutral when I needed to go immediately, there was no response when I hit the gas, 2 cars almost hit me as my car decelerated to almost 45 mph. This has happened numerous times and is very dangerous. When the car does finally respond, it slams into gear unexpectedly and is sometimes hard to control. Please help us to resolve this issue or somebody will eventually get hurt if they already haven't. I have spoken to numerous Infiniti owners and it seems that this is happening to them as well but only the same year as my car, 2008, and only the automatic transmissions.

I turned the car off and it did it again, for a total of three times. The same thing had happened once earlier in the day. I also happens sporadically when I first start it in the morning. On 9/30/2011 I was driving at approximately 10 mph through our high school parking lot. My space is directly aligned with a speed bump. I slowed dramatically for the speed bump at the same time I made the turn to enter my parking space. The car responded incorrectly to the brakes, which had happened to me once before. The car surged forward, over a sidewalk, down an embankment and into a wall. The first time the car surged forward like that was in 2008 and the service department told me there was nothing wrong. 30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

Leased the vehicle back on 2010 of October. 6 months later I had issues with acceleration on 4 different occasions at all times of the day. Even when foot is lightly pushed on the gas pedal car rpm revs from 1 to 7 quickly. Uncomfortable since you don't know when to accelerate hard or soft. Scary when driving short distance with stop and go motion. Engine at times is unpredictable. Car also shut down on me several times while driving on busy roads. Car is only 1 1/2 years old. This issue needs to be investigated.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

The car has an erratic shifting of the 7-speed automatic transmission. In highway driving at lower speeds below 40 mph due to slow traffic, the transmission shifts on occasion into a gear where the engine rpm drops and holds at 1000 - 1100. If you accelerate slowly the rpm's remain at about 1000 unless you actually push the pedal all the way down to the floor board. At this point if you try to accelerate and pick up speed there is a great hesitation. I now have 15,000 miles on this car and the dealership has told me in the past that it can not duplicate the problem. I have seen several complaints on the edmonds. Com forum site that describe my car's problem and other drivers agree that this will cause an accident or possibly cost someone their life if this problem is not addressed. At one point the dealership told me that my car's on board computer is learning my style of driving habits and it will eventually be okay. I am seriously considering trading the car but in good conscience I am concerned about my legal obligation to divulge this problem to the next owner. This is a serious problem that needs to be investigated.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

Vehicle pulls and jumps all over the place, this is so pronounced that the vehicle is unsafe to drive on most roads. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer 3 separate times for this issue, on each occasion they have performed an alignment but it does not solve the problem. On the fourth visit to the dealer an Infiniti representative looked at the vehicle and declared that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle but confirmed in writing that the vehicle does indeed exhibit this behavior. Additionally, the vehicle will occasionally have a completely unresponsive throttle and when I try to accelerate - the vehicle will just sit idling, this has become even more common since the last visit to the dealer (the dealer reprogrammed the ecu for reasons that still have not been made clear to me) concerning the above issue.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 01/09/2010

Driving my new 2009 G37x Infiniti and made a fairly hard brake for a red light - car slid a little to a stop, but continued accelerating at 2500 to 3000 rpms while I held both feet on the brake to keep it in place. It was like holding back a revved up jet - rpms would not come down even when I shifted car to neutral. Never experienced anything like this is 40 years of driving. Noticed odi complaint # 10296445 which is the exact description of what happened to me (without collision) with the same vehicle - 2009 Infiniti G37x sedan. This problem is going to cause someone to get injured or killed! have an appointment with dealer on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle was at the dealership at the time of the complaint and the contact wanted to trade it in for another vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 12,000.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Infiniti G37

Failure Date: 10/23/2009

On October 23, 2009 I was driving in a parking structure with my Infiniti G37 2008 and a passenger. There were several parking spaces on the fourth floor. The parking structure was very busy and slow moving. I coasted into the parking sport since I was driving at a crawl. When I touched the brake light to come to a complete stop the car surged forward with such a force that it hit the wall that was approximately 3 foot in front of parking curb. If it hadn't have been for the wall the car would have gone over.
