1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Infiniti I30

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

While driving home could hear a clicking noise in the wiring car started to lose power and eventually died in the road, jump started it to get to a shop was told it was the alternator, bought new alternator and battery after driving for a while car shorted out again lost power and once again died on the road, jump started car to get home. Car will not hold power keeps shorting out in the wires, alternator is still good as well as battery. You can hear the wiring when it shorts out as it clicks. When I jump start the car it will only stay charged for a few minutes before dying out again. I am not able to drive the car now as it will not stay charged, something electrical is draining the battery. When the wiring starts to click radio goes off and clock dims before shutting off as well.

Battery has been changed about 3 months ago, when the car stalled previously. Yesterday I called Infiniti, got bit run around by them telling me to call Nissan, who told me to call Infiniti. Infiniti told me my VIN number is not included in the recall, and there's nothing they can help me with.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Infiniti I30

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

My 1997 Infiniti I-30 was having a hard time starting and eventually the car died one weekend and would not start. I spent some time on it and got the car started and drove it down to o'neil auto parts and they put their starting system analysis machine on the starting system. . . Their results were that the car battery was ok and the car starter was ok but the car alternator was putting out 34 amps. Instead of the prescribed 129 amps. I had called Infiniti motor corp. Earlier and Infiniti stated to me that my car Infiniti I-30 VIN #jnkca21d7vt519882 manufactured in 3/97 was not covered by the current alternator recall. Although I have read on the internet in nissannews. Com that the mechanically equivalent Nissan maxima bulit during the period of 3/97 is covered under the recall. Which I find odd because both of these models were likely built on the same production line. Also, on the vehicles which are being handled under the alternator recall Nissan corp. Is being difficult and requiring I take my car 90 miles away to atlanta to the closest official Infiniti dealer (making it clearly difficult and inconvenient for me because paul walsh Nissan in my home town is equipped to easily resolve my auto alternator situation. Nissan and or Infiniti have done nothing to correct the problem. The old part is still available at the moment. Maybe you can encourage Nissan to resolve this situation for me. 8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Infiniti I30

Failure Date: 07/19/2005

After went through a drive-through to get a sandwich, I noticed the brake and battery light on my 1998 Infiniti I30 came on. I drove to a nearby gas station and noticed that my car started smoking slightly. I checked my temperature light, it was normal. When I got out of the car and opened the hood, there was a small fire that was shooting straight up about 3-4 feet out of the alternator. After approximately a minute, there was a small explosion that caused coolant to spread all over the engine. This put out the initial fire. By this time, the fire department came and investigated. By the time the firefighter walked to the car, another fire in the same place started up. The car had been off the whole time (through the first and second fire). When the insurance company got involved, we towed the car eventually to my local Infiniti dealership. During this time, I saw two NHTSA recall notices (02v171000 and 99v129000) dealing with alternator shorts for my year and model of inifinti. In talking with the manufacturer, they indicated my car was not part of the recall campaign because my VIN range wasn't in the ones covered). At this point, they know it was a short in the alternator, but they don't know anything beyond that and are not willing to look further.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Infiniti I30

Failure Date: 12/20/2004

Driving home vehicle quit in traffic. After sitting for approximately an hour, vehicle started and we made it home. After having vehicle checked it was determined that the alternator needed to be replaced/rebuilt. Diagnosis done by a local mechanic. It was rebuilt. Vehicle ran well until the 28 April 2005 when the same thing occurred; this time it would not run after a boost. It was towed to the dealer, where a 'remanufactured' alternator was installed, at a cost of $850. 00. The belts and a battery cable was also replaced at this visit. My concern stems from seeing there was a recall of 97/98 infinity I-30's, and so leads me to surmise that a problem may still exist with the alternators on other years of this vehicle. The dealer kept the old part.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Infiniti I30

Failure Date: 10/14/2004

Car was parked outside the house, and had been still for about an hour. We smelled something burning and when we opened the hood, there were flames coming from the alternator. The alternator started a fire internally. It was pure luck the car didn't burn completely. The dealer says that there was a safety recall for 1998 Infiniti I30s, but because the VIN doesn't fall into the recall group, they refuse to fix it unless I come with $510. The car is a 1998 I30 Infiniti with the VIN jnkca21a3wt630078.
