2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 01/09/2021

Camshaft sensor according to the Infiniti dealership (ray brandt on causeway in metairie la. ) is malfunctioning at makes the car engine die while driving. Then when you restart the car the engine revs fine in neutral but once in drive it won't go over 5 mph. Also the timing chain tensioner fails on this car and can cause severe engine damage while the car is being driven. I've looked up both of these problems and have spoken with Nissan and Infiniti and a simple internet search will also confirm that these 2 problems are extremely common on this 5th generation engine. Nissan even lost 2 class action lawsuits on the timing tensioner. Well if Nissan lost 2 court battles over an engine defect that every Nissan internet forum says is a very very common problem then why isn't there a recall. And shouldn't hazing headlights be a safety issue on all cars? almost all cars have this problem and manufacturers keep building cars with unsafe headlights. Why aren't these recalls? thank you for this website. As an american citizen and consumer with a daughter these safety concerns are very troubling to me and all my friends and business associates.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 01/07/2019

The tcs off and slip lights after a noticeable miss while accelerating, the vehicle fails to accelerate when the accelerator pedal is depressed, and then the vehicle stalls, regardless of traveling speed, resulting in total loss of power steering and power braking. After stalling, the vehicle sometimes will restart on first attempt, other times it takes a few tries or turning the key to on position for 5 seconds and then turning it back to off, repeating 2-3 times then starts. The problem is persistent, the vehicle continues to fail at random almost every time it's driven as short as 1 mile distance, but has also been driven 20 miles without failing. While driving a daily route, the problem often occurs at a common location, whether related to distance, terrain, or coincidence is unknown.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 10/24/2017

The car loses power after a while and will just stop as if it ran out of gas. This has happened several times, otherwise the car is ok. The mechanic suspects it has something to do with the crank position or circuit board. There was recalls on this model in 11/2003 and 12/2003 that describe exactly what happens to my vehicle. This slowing down to stopping happened on a major expressway and I had to be towed. It also happened again in my street and driveway having to be towed again.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 08/11/2016

The contact owns a 2003 Infiniti I35. While driving 45 mph, the service engine and tcs/slip warning indicators illuminated. The engine power reduced and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted and accelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft position circuit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

Recall - NHTSA campaign id number: 03v455000. Engine stopped while driving in normal conditions which could have caused a catastrophic accident. Loss complete control of the vehicle and the "slip" light, "tcs off" and "check engine light" all came on with complete engine failure while driving with no ability to regain control. I took the car to a mechanic and was told there is a code "p0340" - camshaft position sensor failure. Infiniti corporate had issued a recall # r3021 for this major issue. When I called Infiniti corporate to take part of this serious recall and service my vehicle, they did not want to help claming that they did not mark my VIN # for the recall. This is a major issue with most Infiniti I35's and many nissans as well. Infiniti seems to not care and has put my life in complete jeopardy.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

I was driving at around 30- 35mph and suddently car slowed down with brake light on. I turned the emergency lights on and moved to right most lane. Swtiched off the car. Swithed on back. It worked fine. It happened twice with me. Only worry is that while travelling on freeway if car siddenly slows down, which may be extermely dangerous. So need advise what is required to be done.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 12/02/2010

Experienced sudden loss of accelerator control and lost nearly all power while merging onto the highway. Lost all power in second lane. There were no warnings. Absolutely no response when pressing down on the accelerator. Car was only idling. Nearly was rear ended while trying to get onto emergency lane. Car was towed to mechanic. A faulty throttle body sensor was identified as a root cause of the sudden power loss, which yields the accelerator unoperational.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 05/03/2010

Recently, I have noticed sudden surge of acceleration @ low speeds. . . And today it stopped all of a sudden while driving. It happened twice today and the steering wheel locks itself. The first time it started immediately after coming to a halt but the second time it stopped in the middle of the road. Tried restarting. . . Multiple attempts, no luck. Tried again, gave a 5 min break and then it started.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

While driving the car does not respond to the gas pedal by accelerating sometimes. I have been at very low speeds while turning a corner or at very high speeds while driving on the freeway and the car will not respond to the fact that I am pressing the gas. The only way that I can get it to accelerate is by slamming the brake quickly. Somehow the jolting of the car causing it to respond appropriately to the gas pedal and to accelerate. I am concerned because driving on the freeway and my car just starting to slow down randomly and not accelerate to keep up with the flow of traffic, and the only way to get it to do so is to slam on the brake is very dangerous and I cannot control how closely others follow me while driving.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

The car suddenly loses throttle control under normal driving conditions; the engine return to "idle speed". I was driving on the expressway and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the car started slowing down. I pressed on the gas pedal all the way down but the car refused to accelerate. I managed to pull over and stop the engine. And then restarted the car and it seemed to work ok for a while and then did it again. I managed to get it to the dealer and it has been there since while they try to figure out why this is happening. This problem started happening about a year ago. The throttle body has been replaced 4 times in the last year; the throttle body contains the electric actuator for the throttle and the sensors that tell the computer the position of the throttle. I am really concerned about driving the car in traffic because it could suddenly "cut out" and lead to an accident.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 04/17/2007

Our 2002 Infiniti I-35 has accelerated on its own 3 times. The first time we were turning around in our friend's driveway and it took off in reverse. The second time we were first in line at a stop light. The third time, I was moving the car in our driveway and it went through our neighbor's fence causing $8,000 damage to our car. The dealer in grand rapids said they never heard of such a thing. The dealer who sold the car and Infiniti have not answered our e-mails. Infiniti corp headquarters pretty much told us too bad on the phone.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 10/20/2006

The car had no symptoms of failure. The failure was the throttle position sensor. It fails intermittently without warning during normal driving conditions. During a failure the engine will not respond to any throttle inputs, therefore rendering the car immovable. Car must be restarted to reset throttle sensor. Has occurred in the middle of an intersection and on the highway, both seriously dangerous places to have loss of engine control. After contacting the dealership a new part was ordered, and after two weeks it arrived and works fine now. The two week notice was lack of stock for this part, which might indicate a widespread problem of this part.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Infiniti I35

Failure Date: 08/16/2004

1) traveling at high speeds 50-60 mph for a considerable time frame, one-two hours. On a highway with stop lights-when trying to stop, my Infiniti I35 (yr. 2002) accelerates while I am trying to brake. The car lurches foward with the engine going from 1500 rpm to 7000 rpms. The incident repeated itself later on 8/16. We were traveling from baltimore to virgina on route 50--good road accomodating high speeds but has lights as one passes through eastern shore towns. The car was towed to infinite's nearest dealership in va beach. According to that dealer's shop, no error messages or issues were reported per their computerized testing. According to them, their road tests , two tests, a drive for 15 minutes and the other was to get the car's speed up to 80 mph on an in-shop rolling machine, revealed no errors. My contacting Infiniti's national consumer affairs office resulted in no tangible assistance. The dealer drove the car to baltimore, 8/20/04 and reported no problems. Interstate 95 was used (its not the same as route 50 with high speeds and frequent, quick(er) stops. The car is not working and needs to be corrected; it is dangerous. Infiniti will not proceed since computerized analysis reports no error messages. In June, 2004, we had taken the car to jba of ellicott city complaining that the car was demonstrating problems: at stop signs, on occasion, the car would not move forward, the engine would race, then the car would lunge forward. That dealership again commented that there was no problem registering on its computer testing, therefore, no problem. It seems that the firm's testing methodology isn't either comprehensive enough or limited to only computer analysis. The car has a defect and this firm can't or won't reach out of the box to try and solve it, excusing any effort on their part because their computer results disclose no "error message".
