2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Infiniti M35

Failure Date: 04/05/2011

Driving north on i95 near fayetteville, cruising at 75 mph, had to accelerate suddenly to get into left lane ahead of other traffic, and make room for on-ramp car entering highway. When I floored the accelerator, my car engine stopped immediately, and I had to coast to a stop on the shoulder. I was able to call a tow truck, who delivered me to a local auto repair shop. The shop manager informed me of the failure as determined by the electronic analysis. Since he had to order parts, he had to take me and my family to a car rental company. After about 5 days, the car was ready for pickup. The repair cost was $939. 42, the rental cost was $174. 18, and I drove about 210 extra miles making gas cost about $30. At the time, I assumed this was an unusual but isolated product failure. Now, I see NHTSA recall 13v-430 and believe that my situation was due to this faulty part. I would like reimbursement, and also a review of my car's system as repaired to replace parts further as necessary.

3 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Infiniti M35

Failure Date: 02/16/2011

My Infiniti M35x accelerated unexpectedly during parking causing me to crash into a building and resulting in $10k worth of vehicular damage. The impact jarred me such that I temporarily became disoriented and was unsure of "what just happened. " a second incident of such nature occured when the car unexpectedly accelerated, almost causing the vehicle to careen over a railing at a local shopping center. In the former instance there was no property or physical damage. The vehicle often surges without pressure to the gas pedal or when pressing the brake.

4 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Infiniti M35

Failure Date: 06/29/2010

I have a 2006 Infiniti M35 with 42k miles. While driving, the engine stopped responding to the accelerator. I pushed the accelerator to the floor and tried pumping the pedal and nothing. The engine sat at an idle and would not respond. As I approached a stop light with stopped traffic and began to apply the brakes, the car began to accelerate by itself. Let me be clear that I was applying the brakes and felt the brakes beginning to slow the vehicle when the engine began to race. I was able to overcome the engine trying to accelerate and bring the car to a stop without impacting other traffic. But, I was sitting parked at the stop light with the brake mashed to the floor while the engine tachometer continued to register 2500 rpms. I managed to make it to the nearby dealership where I bought the vehicle. Along the way, the engine rpms continued to jump erratically causing sudden uncontrolled acceleration. The dealership performed diagnostics on the car and determined that the throttle position sensor had failed and was sending erroneous data to the car?s computer. In my view, this vehicle has fundamental engineering and design flaws that present a risk to the larger public when a sensor failure can cause sudden uncontrolled acceleration. Moreover, when applying the brakes does not override the programming logic and stop the engine from racing, there is obviously a greater opportunity for improved safety logic. While, I managed to safely navigate the resulting hazards this time, next time I may not be so lucky.
