Yesterday my wife was driving with my daughter and two friends when the vehicle stalled and lost all power while driving on a busy road. They were very fortunate to not have caused a serious accident and all were quite frightened by the incident. The vehicle would not restart so they had it towed to a mechanic (I was out of town). Today I went to the shop where the vehicle was towed and spoke to the mechanic. We checked it together and it started up like normal so we went for a ride and the car performed normally as well, although several lights are now lighted on the dash (vdc off, slip, ras & check engine). Searching nicoclub and other forums including this site, it seems this is not an uncommon problem. This could cause serious injuries and even death so owners should be notified of this possibility.

The first incident happened on June 3rd driving to work and the car just gave out. It stalled, lights came on the dashboard and car died. I was able to drift to a side street in which I tried to start the car again;however, the car would not start up. I had to get it towed to my house. After sitting for the day, I tried to start it up again and it started. I was able to make it to the advance auto near my home where they put it on the machine to see if there was a problem with the alternator and/or battery. Alternator was good and the battery had some dead cells but I was told not enough for the car to just die out in the middle of driving. The next day I installed a new battery, the car started, drove onto the interstate and it stalled again (my daughter was in the car) I had to drift to service road. I had to leave the car overnight, went back this morning (Wednesday)and the car started, I drove directly to the Infiniti dealer and was diag. W/a bad crank position sensor. I had it repaired. I researched this problem the first day it happened and found that a recall was in place for over 620k M45's;however mine was not one of them. Same part, same diag, same model, different year. This is definetly a hazardous problem and I am seeking reimbursement for the fees I paid today along with someone looking into recalling this part in the M45 models. Its ridiculous not too if the same part had to be replaced in a 2004 with the same diag. And not a 2003. If this is not the correct department I need to file a complaint with, I need to know who can really look into this issue. Luckily, no one was hurt in my situation but it is bound to happen because going highway speeds with your car coming to a slow pace instantly creates a very frantic situation.

Hello, while driving our 2003 infinity M45 on the highway at approximately 65 mph, the car suddenly shut off. I was driving my kids to school and this suddenly happened. The car turned on immediately and drove back home. I thought it might have been some issue with the fuel. I drove it again and this happened to me once more, the vehicle just suddenly shuts off. I went to the dealer to see what the problem was and was told after being checked that there was a recall for the same car and year for the cam & crank sensors but needed to make sure this car was part of it. To my surprise it wasn't! why would they recall same year and model but not mine? my vehicle stalls on the road and could have seriously gotten injured due to this malfunction. Please help us out. Thank you!.
