36 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

The car began drastically pulling to the left and I had to turn the wheel to the right, just to have it drive straight. This continued for about 3 miles. I got home, turned the car off, waited approx 5 mins and turned it back on and the car continued pulling to the left. I attempted to drive it for an additional 6-7 miles in an effort to get it to the dealer and prior to getting to the dealer, it started driving properly. The dealer said that since an error did not appear, they cannot do anything. I took the car in anyway and an engineer looked at the car on 8/4/14 and the only thing in the logs was that the car had low voltage. We researched steering issues with the Q50 and there are multiple instances documented where other consumers are having this same issue. I live in arizona and obviously this issue is not related to cold climates as initially indicated in the recall. This car was built in Apr 2014, which is after the recall and similar steering issues are occurring.

37 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2014

After merging onto the freeway, the car began pulling to the left. My first thought was a flat tire. Checking the tire pressures, the front left tire displayed -- while the three other tires were 35 or 36 lbs. Since have run flat tires, I continued driving. After approximately two miles, the pulling began to subside. After about another mile there was no pull at all and the tire pressure read 35lbs for the front left tire. I checked the front tire when I stopped and there was nothing wrong with it. I am guessing it was a problem with the electronic steering. I haven't had any issues since. I have an appointment with the dealer to have the car checked in two weeks when I take it in for routine service.

38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

Car intermittently turns by itself. It will make a left turn if I release my grip on the steering wheel at 35mph+. This is not an alignment issue, it is much more than that and also, the power steering has quit on 3 occasions, reverting to standard steering which nearly got me in a head on collision. Also, the steering issue will stop as suddenly as it starts. I know the difference between an alignment issue and a car that wants to turn by itself. This is a fight to keep the car going straight on a level, straight road then all of a sudden it will stop doing it! normally the problem lasts for 20-30 minutes and sometimes when I change steering modes, the problem will stop but not usually. Sometimes I pull over and shut the engine off as suggested by Infiniti but that has never worked. Also, Infiniti suggested that I do not touch or turn the steering wheel prior to starting the car as this may cause the problem. Really? this feeble attempt at a solution did not work but confirmed that they do in fact know there is a problem. Many other drivers of this car have experienced the exact same issue. Infiniti denies a problem exists. I have "self-videos" of the problem as it is happening. This is dangerous but I have no recourse. I have clear videos which show the car turning on its own. They say the car is operating as designed. The last occurrence was about 10 days ago and it was in the shop but once again, no solution. I have now had my car back for about 4 days since that last occurrence and it hasn't done it yet but I know from experience that it is just a matter of time. I am in socal and at one point, Infiniti had 2 japanese guys who came from nashville to check the car out and that is the time they replaced the steer by wire system but that did not fix the issue. They clearly know there is an issue with this car.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

On several occasions this Q50 sport suddenly begins pulling very strongly to the left, almost turning me into oncoming traffic in one instance. This issue has stopped and started again a few different times. No changes have been made to the vehicle and it happens while traveling on a level surface and usually lasts for a couple of hours then stops pulling but occurs again at seemingly random times. It is a profound and dangerous physical and "automatic" turn of the steering wheel while driving on a level, flat surface and the wheel must be held firmly to keep the vehicle operating in a straight line. It is easy to detect since it stops pulling as suddenly as it starts. The problem is not isolated to my case as there are other reports of the same issue online (some reports have it pulling right instead of left). The other reports are very similar in description and the level of resulting fear. I reported the issue to Infiniti consumer affairs and also to the service department where I purchased the car. Surprisingly, Infiniti did not instruct me to stop driving and seem to be taking the issue quite lightly. Their consumer affairs department said they would contact me in a few days with no additional instructions. For the second time (for this issue), I brought the car in to the dealer (6/6/14) and was told that they would "do what they can do" and if they can't repeat the problem there is likely nothing they can do. Huh? the first time, I was told I would get a call from an engineer which did not happen but I got a call from a service rep who told me to drive 30 mph and allow it to "reset" but was not asked to leave the car. On 6/5/2014 at around 8 pm pt, when it happened again, I took it in to the dealer (the following morning) and insisted that they take a more serious look at this lethal issue before someone (or me) has a serious accident. I have video of the issue.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

Vehicle drifts to the left and to the right mostly on the freeway, das does not feel tight and safe. Constantly needs to be corrected on the highway. I have had it in the dealership twice so far and will be taking it back again next week. The dealership found that my toe was slightly out of alignment at 3149 miles. Toe was corrected however, after technician road test of 50 miles, vehicle still has the similar sensation. I do not feel safe in this vehicle. I traded in my g37 coupe for this vehicle because we are having another grandchild however, I will not allow my children or grandchildren to ride in this vehicle. Salesman did not advise that vehicle was equipped with the new technology of das or I would not have purchased this vehicle! vehicle is now at 3285. My intouch dual screens have malfunctioned 5 times and do not reset until you turn the vehicle off and then back on.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Infiniti Q50- vehicle began pulling severely to the left, requiring me to turn the steering wheel right in order to drive straight and avoid colliding head on with oncoming traffic. The issue persists until the car has been driven at 5-7 minutes continuously, stopping and restarting the vehicle does not correct this extremely dangerous issue. Issue occurred several times starting March 2014, dealership has attempted to resolve the problem on 4 separate occasions. 3/7/14 dealer performed das software update claimed the problem was solved. 3/27/14 returned vehicle to the dealer after same problem occurred multiple times, dealer was unable to re-create the issue , returned vehicle with no attempt at repair, providing this list of instructions; #1 when parking the vehicle, straighten the wheels before turning off the car #2 do not touch steering wheel after the car has been turned off #3 do not touch steering wheel when entering the car until the car has been turned on #4 after placing the car in reverse, back up several inches before touching the steering wheel (yes, I actually have this in writing). Upon receiving this insane checklist, I called Infiniti consumer affairs. They scheduled an appointment with an engineer for 4/14/14, before the appointment the problem occurred once again prompting me to drop the vehicle at the dealer on 4/9/14. Infiniti still could not replicate the problem. But they replaced the steering control system. 10/1/14, vehicle returned to the dealership for the same issue. Dealership performed steering calibration update. Infinity denied my request to buy back this extremely dangerous vehicle stating it has not been serviced an ¿excessive amount of times. I am shocked and appalled that Infiniti has been so casual regarding a potentially fatal flaw in this vehicle, the safety of me and my family is at risk when operating this vehicle.

42 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

My complaint echoes all of those that precede mine. Nissan has to fix this before someone dies. With only 200 miles on my new Q50 with das I made a left turn. The car went straight after the turn but the steering wheel locked in the left turn position. Almost immediately a message appeared on the odometer screen that said "warning . Suspension malfunction check owners manual". I could not turn the wheel so I stopped the car and shut it off. When I restarted the vehicle the steering worked and I drove it back to the dealer. I left it there and told the dealer I did not want to drive the car and that I wanted a full refund. The next two weeks were interesting and very sad. The dealer service department told me that they could not find anything wrong. Nissan told me that my car was not a part of the November, 2013 recall; that a recall had been issued in December, 3013, and another on the day I purchased the car. I was not informed of any of these recalls. If I had been informed I would not have purchased the vehicle. The dealer worked hard on my behalf, but they said that they could not refund all of my money without some "participation" from Nissan. I called Nissan numerous times and I talked to a regional manager who told me that the malfunction had to occur two more times so that it would qualify under the lemon law. To qualify for a refund from Nissan my wife and I would have to risk life and limb two more times. Unacceptable. I refused to take possession of the car, and the dealer got me out of the deal. It cost me some money and I am sure the dealer lost a few bucks. Nissan has a very real problem here. Someone is going to die. They should stand up, admit the problem, and fix it.

43 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Car did not want to turn--happened again at 2200 miles. Carried to dealer at first time but problem was not fixed . First time it was very cold and the second time it was even colder. Not happy with the system in place to handle the problem. . Repeat sale is out of the question. Car has been parked in yard since 2-5-2014 waiting far towing to dealer. . Do not feel safe in driving car. . It seems the only use we have in owning car is to impress our neighbors with a useless $44,000 car. Very unhappy with dealer, Infiniti and towing company. Need I say more. --three phone calls today with no results. Posted 2-11-2014.

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Backing out of driveway when all of a sudden I couldn't turn the steering wheel no matter how much pressure I exerted. Complete critical malfunction of the steering. Turned car off and restarted. No change in condition. After several minutes, restarted car and steering appeared normal. Brought the car to service department of dealer from where I purchased car. Initially advised by service manager that there is a software update for this condition. After about an hour he came to me to advise me that the software didn't "take" and that the control arm needs to be replaced. What if I lost total steering control at highway speeds?.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Q50s hybrid with tech package driving less than 2 weeks (380 miles). Before delivery, the dealer confirmed that the car does not have any recalls pending and software is up-to-date. In the early morning, I drove about 60 minutes without problem (it was below zero), and parked the car for 2 hours in outside parking lot. When I started the car again (outside temp approximately 0 degree f), engine started but multiple warning came up. Those include "master warning, power steering warning, vdc warning, and forward emergency braking system warning. " I tried to back the car from the lot and it moved, but the steering was extremely heavy and I could not turn. I restarted 3-4 times but nothing changed. I called Infiniti and they set up towing but I needed to wait for 90 minutes for pick up due to cold weather. While waiting, I kept the engine on since it was cold outside. After the engine running approximately 30 minutes without shutting down but still all warnings on, I again shut off the car and restarted. This time, all alarms disappeared, and steering was normal. I contacted with dealer, and was notified that same problems are happening with other Q50 same day, and nothing needed to or can be done at this moment, since all software is already updated. Of note, the car was previously kept in location colder than 0 degree f many times and this problem did not happen at the colder temperature. But only difference this time was the car was kept outside parking lot. Since that incident, no further alarms appeared and the car is running fine. However, as I see more information in this site, I feel some sort of manufacture or official investigation needs to be initiated, since it seems there are multiple same issues happening everywhere. Some of these incidents could have easily triggered fatal accident. Obviously, after a fatal accident then one cannot complain anymore. . .

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

While backing out of a parking space, noticed that the steering wheel was extremely stiff and the car would not change direction. After I pulled back into the space, I noticed two additional lights on the dashboard: steering wheel with an exclamation mark, and the car with the wheels slipping behind it. Car had been sitting for about 75 minutes and temperature at the time was -5. On the previous drive, the car had been sitting for several hours at temperatures between 0 - -5 and didn't have the issue. Tried restarting the car several times, allowing 1-2 minutes in between each restart and could not get the wheel to move more than a few degrees either direction. I believe the backup system also failed because no matter how hard I turned the wheel, the car's wheels would not change direction while I was trying to back out of the parking space. Car ended up being towed to dealer and is still there now with 704 miles and less than a month old. They were not aware of any recall and so far do not have a solution. This incident is similar to recall notice 13v588000, but my car does not appear to be included. Regardless of the repair/outcome I no longer feel safe driving this car as I do not trust the direct adaptive steering system after this incident. . Read more...

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2014

Same issue as a complaint previously posted on your site 2014 Infiniti Q50: started the vehicle and the chassis control system error sensor light illuminated. When attempting to drive the vehicle the power steering malfunctioned making the vehicle difficult to turn the steering wheel. Will contact dealer for service we were not aware of any NHTSA recall campaign 13v588000(steering); however, the defect appears to be the same as the recall.

49 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2014

In cold weather (below zero f) after car has been running fine and then turned off for 30-40 min, I got in the car and started as usual; but system malfunction light went on and power steering was inoperative and car was unsteerable. After turning the car off for about 10 min, I could restart and it worked fine. Then the same thing happened again within an hour. I stopped for gas and when I restarted the car it was unsteerable and a system malfunction light went on related to power steering. The same thing occurred a week before. The car had to be towed to the dealer and although they did not specify what was wrong they told me they had to wait for a part and that it would be 5-7 days before it came in.

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

Please refer to your campaign number i3v588000. It appears that more cars are affected than originally thought. My car is experiencing the same problem but has not been recalled. Supposedly, Infiniti recalled all 23 cars that were affected. There are obviously many more vehicles equipped with das that are experiencing this problem.

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact started the vehicle and the chassis control system error sensor light illuminated. When the contact attempted to drive the vehicle the power steering malfunctioned making the vehicle difficult to turn the steering wheel. The contact called the dealer and was informed that they were aware of the problem with the vehicle and she should turn the vehicle off and back on to remedy the problem. The contact turned the vehicle off and on but the failure continued to occur. There was no diagnostic test performed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The contact stated that she did not received NHTSA recall campaign 13v588000(steering); however, the defect is identical to the recall. The failure mileage was 3600.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

After having a great experience owning a '04 Infiniti g35x, I purchased an Infiniti Q50 in mid October, 2013 in dallas, TX. In addition to software issues with nav & apps, I have had problems being able to unlock or start my car w/o my key fob. Three times I lost steering control when the weather was near 32 deg. F. . . Twice in driveway (reported to Infiniti in my survey) and once while driving and then I wouldn't have been able to swerve if necessary (very dangerous)! restarting the car alleviated the problem each time. After receiving a "service campaign" notice I took my car to the dealership. The service mgr. Said that he hadn't heard of any problems with the das, but I had the recall notice in my hand and my sales rep told me that she was having the same problem. This past weekend I visited a car show and spoke to an Infiniti rep. About this das issue. He told me that the das issue was related to cold weather and that the servo-actuators that make up the das system need to be sealed. When we asked if that meant putting grease or silicone on a rubber boot, he said no. The units had to be replaced with new ones. He said that any software fixes for the das would be to correct the lack of triple redundancy in the event of failures. I just asked the service rep. If they replaced the servo motors or control units that are the root of this problem and he said that they weren't required to do so. I think that the dealer and Infiniti are being very ambiguous about the extent of this problem. I'll give them one chance to fix these problems and if not satisfactory, I'll try the lemon law!.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2013

Steering wheel lock and malfunction at cold weather. Unable to turn the wheel. Able to restart and fix the problem. Happens daily in cold weather. Took to dealer software upgrade. Problem not fixed. Dealer tried a second time and still same issue. Was informed by the service center the problem could not be fixed yet. They are working on a fix.

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

After parking my car in a parking lot, I wanted to adjust it to be more even. So I turned the engine on again. But then I suddenly couldn't turn the wheel. The wheel was locked up. With very firm force, I managed to turn the wheel about 15 degrees - but the actual tires themselves did not turn. The car was in "r" and did reverse, but as I could not steer it did not reverse in the direction I wanted to go. I turned the engine off and on again and then there was a warning on the dash saying that "afs is off" and "the system is off. " I turned the engine off and on again for the 3rd time, and then everything was normal and the steering was working fine. The temperature outside was about 46 degrees f. My car's specific model 2014 Q50s with deluxe touring and technology packages (including das/direct adaptive steering).

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 13v588000 (steering) but was advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 4,950.

56 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2013

Unable to steer vehicle; steering wheel was not "locked", as a current Infiniti recall is addressing. Weather conditions were temp about 27degrees, about 2 inches of snow on the ground. Vehicle did not respond to steering inputs, car was drifting to the right. At some point, steering response was restored and was able to drive car home. Car is currently at the local Infiniti dealership and issue has not been resolved.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

We purchased the Q50 because we loved our g35x so much. When we purchased the Q50 in early October 2013, we knew there were issues with the computer system. The salesperson told us that there would be a fix in November and we would be contacted. During October and November, we experienced a range of issues with the navigation system and one touch system. We had to reboot the system almost every time we drove the car. We were not contacted for the fix in November or December and we started to experience many steering issues. My wife contacted the pittsburgh Infiniti dealer and was told that there was no fix available at this time, it was suggested that she contact the corporate office for clarification. Corporate said that there was no fix, but that our Q50 had been identified for a recall. We found the recall information on the internet and the shocking part was that the NHTSA said not to drive the car until it is fixed. We also found out that corporate knew of the steering issue since November 2013, but never notified us. I guess they were waiting for someone to be killed by the steering problem before taking action. After many calls to the pittsburgh Infiniti dealer and corporate office, we found that no one wanted to take responsibility for the problem. It was not until we went to the dealer with the car that they agreed to fix the problem and suddenly the fix was available. I will most likely never buy another Infiniti and I can only recommend that everyone stay away from the Infiniti q-series. . Read more...

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

I took delivery of my 2014, fully loaded Infiniti Q50s on 8/31/13. The vehicle is equipped with Infiniti's new "direct adaptive steering" system, which they hail as the first on the market steer by wire system. On 11/15/13 I noticed for the first time the steering erratically pulling, typically to the left but occasionally to the right. It is at times so pronounced that it is as if the vehicle steering is fighting me. The problem occurs frequently and persists to this day. This behavior is intermittent and is very different than an alignment issue. It happens on straight stretches of road and is generally noticeable during highway travel, given the higher speeds and straight stretches of road. This behavior had been observed by Infiniti service personnel and had been documented by other owners as well. It is also clearly noticeable to passengers in my vehicle. I have made multiple visits to the dealership in an effort to correct this problem, without success. These included application of a recall campaign that included new software and hardware being installed. The problem persists and makes the vehicle at least anxiety inducing to drive. At times it feels unsafe. It is highly unsettling and there are clearly problems with this system and technology. Rather incredibly, I was told by a Nissan/Infiniti technical specialist who was brought into town to assess the many problems I have been having with this vehicle that this erratic steering behavior is being caused by the steering system settings I utilize. That setting is known as "standard," which is the default setting whenever the vehicle is started. This car and technology are unstable and unsafe.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at high speeds, the electronic gauges and displays in the vehicle suddenly became inoperable as the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. In addition, the contact indicated that the emergency sos button would not operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure and was unable to diagnose the cause of the problem. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 2000.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2013

After driving approximately 1/4 mile, the car began to pull to the left very strongly; strong enough to pull me into oncoming traffic if it had not been so early in the morning. I thought I had a flat tire but the tire pressure monitors said the pressure was proper @ 36 psi. This strong pull lasted about another mile and then subsided. It has occurred 2 more times since then. Dealer had the car for 2 days and indicated that perhaps the road was uneven or it was just sensitive driving and I am not used to it. I know what a car pulling to one side feels like and each time this feels like a flat tire. If it happens again I will not allow my wife or anyone else drive the car; it could causes a serious accident.
