Infiniti QX56 owners have reported 91 problems related to brake light on (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Infiniti QX56 based on all problems reported for the QX56.
Just purchased a used 2008 Qx56 with 118,000 miles. 2 incidents: while coming to a stop, brakes failed and brake light came on. Dealer says low brake fluid so they filled and all seemed fine. 3 days later, coming to a stop traveling less than 30 mph same thing. The defect continued as I made my way to my house a block away. I can see why this issue would cause an accident and the issue in no way felt like a pin causing an issue with the pedal and bracket as described in recall listed. Vehicle being towed by dealer to determine cause but from reviewing all the complaints here, there seems to be 2 common themes: a brake defect and Nissan not figuring it out.

Brake light comes on with a grinding sound and brakes fail to hold. Occasionally, slv light illuminates. Some days,it happens very frequently. Rotors and brake pads are new, but the problem still persists.
I have an 04 Qx56 as a daily driver. I was leaving walmart as I pulled out of the parking lot I pulled into the turn lane to allow a car to go by mashed my brake and it started jer king like something was trapped in my brakes. We pulled on down to a large parking lot got out notice the red brake light was on and under the hood something was clicking near the air intake thing. It did it the entire ride home as we were 30 mins from home we just drive slow. Got in it today for the 1st time was ok til about 45 mins into trip light came back on brakes started doing the same thing. I have rread many people complain of this issue. If it doesn't get recalled there will be a wreck in these vehicles! please make Nissan/Infiniti recalled this part! I have researched it and there was a lawsuit filed but it didn't make them admit there was an issue just made them pay for out of pocket expenses. I am a stay at home mom college student my husband just lost his job due to health reasons. I can't afford to pay for this issue!.

Vehicle would not stop, and the brake light came on. There was a spring noise coming from the dash. The vehicle was turned off and turned back on and the problem went away. From what I have read on line it is a faulty delta stroke sensor.
When driving vehicle suddenly makes a loud grinding sound and abs and brake light come on on gauge. When trying to break it is impossible. It will not stop. This has happened more than 6 times already. Thankfully I was not in traffic or collision and injury could have happened. In order to regain control you have to turn vehicle off to reset it. This problem may cause a severe injury or even death.
I have a 2005 Nissan infinity Qx56 and had the brake light come on yesterday followed by the limited braking, shuttering and pulsing of the brake pedal. . Almost hit a car. Maybe because of faulty and defective delta stroke sensor.
I have a 2004 Qx56 and like many of you, I MA having the same issue with my brakes. The brake light will come on and when I press the brake their is a grinding sound and it is very difficult to stop. I turned the truck off and restarted it and the light went out and you couldn’t tell that anything was wrong. I took it to the dealer and was told it was my rotors and they “think” the brake booster. This is a very serious problem and Nissan needs to be held accountable and made to fix this issue. !.
I have a 2005 Qx56. This loss of brake happens to me many time, brake light will come on while driving and if you push the brake you will hear a loud grinding noise, and pedal goes to the floor. Turn off engine and start it again it will be good again, its intermitent, you dont know when will it happen, so I always look on my dash for the brake light while driving so I know that its doing it again. I was told it was the brake booster. Very unsafe! there needs to be a recall.
The brakes of my 2007 Infiniti Qx56 failed when I was driving my whole family, including two kids, on the ramp up to highway. I stepped on brakes to slightly slow down for entering the free way after another car, and all four wheels started to have loud grinding sounds, and brakes didn't take action, no matter how hard I step on it. I have to make a sharp curve out to the emergency lane and slide my car out to access road. After finally slowing down the car and pulled over to a parking lot. I noticed the brake light on the dash is on. Fortunately I didn's have a collision when doing the curving, slowing down and drving, with a useless brake. And although my families were scared to death, they were not hurt. Finally, I managed to drive home from local road, under 20mph with emergency flashing on. And one day later I managed to drive the Qx56 to sewell Infiniti dealer at dallas. And after inspection, they told me the brake booster sensor was defective, and the repair cost would be ~ $1,400.

As I was driving my brake light came on and as I tried to hit the brake pedal I noticed a loud grinding noise and the brake going to the floor and car not stopping. This is the second time this have happened this is very dangerous. There are many complaints that I have read and something needs to be done because I will definitely take it to fox 5. . .
While driving and starting to apply the brakes there can be heard a grinding sound, brake light displays on the dash and the brake pedal goes to the floor. This is very unsafe to me and the public because once I was able to get home and restart the vehicle it functions like nothing was ever wrong. I drove around the block with no problem stopping which lasted about 2 weeks before it all started again, this time with my family in the vehicle. There are no leaks or squeaking from using my brakes; something needs to be done.
Random instances of brake light coming on followed by limited braking, shuttering and pulsing of the brake pedal. A common and known issue affecting Qx56, armadas and titans from the mid 2000's that Nissan refuses to acknowledge. A serious safety concern that needs to be addressed.
When attempting to stop two times in the past few months the brakes suddenly fail allowing us no ability to stop the car almost causing a serious wreck. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor with the brake light (not abs) illuminated on the dash. Even though Nissan consumer affairs is aware of this problem they are not being accountable or held responsible for this serious car defect. According to the class action law suit (where there are many others reporting the same problem) the problem is with the active brake booster and vdc control unit. They recommend for me to pay 2-3000 dollars to have the car fixed for a manufacturing defect. Given the severity of this defect in the core brake system across both Nissan and Infiniti cars and the fact this was taken to court there should be a recall for a failing brake system.
The brakes make a grinding noise and the car sounds as if the brakes are going out. I also have had the vdc light and brake light on as well during all this. And when it happens it keeps happening till you turn the car off and on and then it goes away. But has happened at least 15 to 20 times and seems to be happening more and more. Quite scary when you have a family and your on the interstate and you have to turn the car off and on for it to go away.
I am having problems with my brake light coming on, and the brakes are grinding and scrubbing everytime I place my feet on the brake.
I have a 2004 Qx56 -- I'm having the same issue with my brakes. All of a sudden the brake light will come on and when you press on the brake you hear a scary loud grinding sound and trying to stop it really tough. It feels like the abs brakes kicked in --- it has happened several times randomly. As soon as I turned the truck off and restarted it the brake light came off and it started to drive like normal. But I have hit the grass several times bc when this failure occurs you're likely to hit someone in front or, with a sudden grinding stop, someone hit you from behind. I took it to the shop and they said it was a brake issue. So I replaced all 4 brakes and roters -- yet the problem still happened!! I went back and they said it's probably the delta sensor and it'll be $1000 plus a few hundred to update the computer too. This is very dangerous and the scary part is there is no warning-- it just happens randomly. This is something Infiniti / Nissan should fix!!.
While I'm driving, the brake light on my cluster would come on and if I try to brake, the pedal would just go to the floor and the vehicle would feel as if abs is kicking in. This is very dangerous as I've ran through multiple red lights and pedestrian crosswalks due to the brakes not working properly. Thank god I haven't hurt anyone or myself due to this on going problem with the delta sensor. Researched online and read tons of stories of people with the same issue which apparently cost $1000 usd to fix!! please make Infiniti responsible for this fix or someone will get hurt or even worse, deaths.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Infiniti Qx56. The contact stated that intermittently when depressing the service brake, the traction light and brake light illuminated on her dashboard, the petal depressed to the floor and it was followed by a loud grinding noise. After the vehicle was restarted the vehicle resumed normal function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer as unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 76,000. Az.
Brake light and slip light turns on in instrument panel, brakes do not grab or makes a grinding sound. My rotors and pads are in good condition per dealership.
The contact owns a 2006 infinity Qx56. The contact stated that the brake lights illuminated while driving at approximately 30 mph. In addition, the brakes would exhibit an abnormal grinding. The vehicle was powered off and when restarted, resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 128,000.
My infinity qx 56 truck brake pedal starts to vibrate and make loud spring noises, next the vehicle will begin to pulsate violently during braking and make a loud grinding noise with an extended braking response (nearly causing me to crash into traffic ahead or in front of me). The vehicle defectively turns on the abs and brake light warnings in the dashboard while using brakes to stop at stop signs, red lights, or to make turns behind other traffic. This activation is random without cause or occurrence. I am terrified to drive my infinity 2006 Qx56. I have experienced multiple near death car accidents. I have been dealing with this problem for about a year. Was told it was the brakes (changed them), was told it was the rotors (changed them), was told it was the master cylinder (changed it) with no resolve. Problems still exists. Finally, infinity admits its a malfunction in my delta senor. Malfunction to me sounds like a defective part and that is not my $1500 bullet to bite!.
The car emergency brake light came on, the vdc, and slip light flashes and the car loses brake power, felt like pads were gone but they were not. Once the car was turned off and back on lights went away and brakes came back. We have had brakes replaced, and problem continued. Also the service engine soon light came on and a mechanic told us we needed new cadalidic convertors and the service engine soon light is still on and off. Brake issue and light coming on has happened numerous times and it does not make a difference where or what speed. I have been driving down the interstate, in the neighborhood, parked, etc. It is happening more frequently and we have had it check out by multiple mechanics and their diagnostics are not picking up anything that is wrong. I have 3 small children and feel like I am going to have a panic attack every time we get into the car. Why is there no re-call yet?! if you are considering buying this car run and do not buy!.
As I was exiting the store parking lot, I heard a ping sound while I pressed on the brakes. My car eventually came to a stop after several pumps of the brakes. I turned the engine off and after a few minutes, I started the car and proceeded to drive less than a mile and lost the ability to brake again as I approached a red light. The car sounded like a large spring was going to break and I heard a rapid popping sound while trying to press on the brakes. The front end sounded like it was grinding and the red brake light came on. The light turned green and the car in front of me started moving right before I got to it. I made a sharp right turn without brakes and coasted my car to a stop at a gas station. I turned off the engine and called a tow truck. I had it towed to the brake store since they just replace the brakes a month before. They did a full inspection, several test drives and were unable to duplicate the problem. They said the brakes were in perfect order. It was a clear sunny day and the road was regular pavement free of debris. I thought I was nuts and then I thought the brake store was lying to me. I had just dropped my kids off. If that light had not turned green when it did, I would have rear ended that car going 30 mph. It wouldn't be until June 2013 when I realized that this is a common issue with the qx and armadas and is not a problem with the brakes rather with the brake booster and delta s sensor. I am filing another complaint that will be dated June 6 2013. If this problem is not addressed by Nissan motor corp, someone is going to be seriously hurt or could die. This was an extremely frightening and helpless feeling. I keep my car in great working order and maintain it as it should be. This is not a routine maintenance thing; this is a serious safety issue that Nissan needs to address!.
The first instance occurred in August of 2012. We were traveling on the hwy and were reducing speeds from 65 to exit the ramp. Upon applying the brakes the emergency brake light came on and started flashing. When the brakes were applied a metal on metal sensation occurred, as if there were no brake pads left on the vehicle and metal was grinding. When the brake was release it stopped, but the vehicle could not be stopped by using the brakes. We had to coast into a parking lot and come to a complete stop. The vehicle was then put into park, shut off. The emergency brake was applied and released (it was never engaged before). Once the car was restarted the lights were off and the brakes were in standard, normal working condition. The second incident happened in March of 2013. The incidents are now for frequent and happen monthly. Several times we have been in traffic on the highway and have had to brake quickly due to road work, traffic, etc and have slimly missed having an accident. Because we cannot replicate the incident on demand the Infiniti dealerships claims they cannot diagnose or even fix the problem. The braking system is unreliable and hazardous. I have done the proper maintenance on my vehicle by having brake pads replaced when necessary because I am a responsible owner. At any given time I have 3 children in my vehicle and am growing more and more concerned to drive my car if the brakes are not reliable.
Pulling out of neighborhood on busy highway 34 mph. Brake failure, loud grinding and brake light came on. Able to avoid oncoming traffic by pulling onto side of road. Turn car off and back on and has breaks back but very scared.
While driving the vehicle and pressing on the brakes there is a loud cranking, grinding noise and the brakes appear to lock up. The slip, vdc off and brake lights illuminate on the dashboard. I will usually have to turn the vehicle off and back on for the lights to go off and to drive the vehicle. This works intermittently.
Complete brake system failure - this is the 3rd time, same exact symptoms. Brake light on dash comes on, computer noises beeping behind dash, brake pedal looses all pressure, vehicle unsafe, crash was imminent, if we had been traveling at highway speeds there would have been death. Brake pedal pushed all the way to the floor front brakes began making severe grinding noises, vehicle virtually incapable of stopping. This is a severe problem. Previous failure on 3. 30. 11 at 68kmiles, 1st failure on 8. 20. 10 at 57k miles. At 70k miles dealer reprogrammed vdc control as 'fix'. . . . . . . . Guess what it did not fix it. . . . . . . . This needs to be a factory recall item ASAP, and/or a class action lawsuit before someone is killed>.
Was driving when I applied brakes . The brake light came on and brake pedal felt soft not firm, vehicle didn't come to a stop. Had to drive on the side of the road towards a hill . I applied brakes again but the care would barely brake . I turn the key off and turn the car back on. Brakes worked again. This has happen multiple times and dealer told me . That they are aware of the problem but since it's not a recall I would have to pay for repairs. They quoted me 1800 for the repair.
Brake problem usually occurs after a turn when accelerating to about 20 to 30 mph. Steering wheel began to vibrate when pressure is applied to the brakes, brake dash lights comes on and the brake pedal pulsates and goes all the way to the floor. Sounds also are heard from the front brakes (rubbing and grinding). The vehicle will barely stop when this happens. Thank god we are not going at a high rate of speed when this occurs, if so, we would not be able to stop the truck in time. Problem always stops after we pull over and put the vehicle in park and turn the engine off. This has occurred on many occasions with recently several incidents in one week, otherwise it happens about once a month. We are afraid that the problem is getting worse and may lead to an accident. We love the vehicle but just want the repairs made before something happens. Also, the airbag light recently came on as well. Question; are there recalls on these problems?.
Yesterday April 10,2012 I was driving and need to stop the my Qx56 I feel a complete brake failure, brake warning light on and a loud noise under the vehicle. Brake pedal doing all the down to the floor. After turning the vehicle off and restart, everything turn back to the normal and warning light gone. This is serious issue and manufacturer should fix the problem before any body die.
Vehicle was purchased used in December 2009. Started noticing brake squealing & grinding, front & rear brakes had to be replaced in February 2012. After brakes were replaced there was an incident backing out of a driveway while braking, had only 20% brakes with loud grinding noise, but no warning lights came on. Decided to replace rotors after that incident in March 2012. On April 9th while leaving a grocery store parking lot going approx. 15mph, emergency brake like came on, 95% of brakes were lost, loud grinding noise when trying to brake. Car put into park & turned off. When truck was turned back on & brake pedal depressed while in park position, brakes seemed normal again. Put truck into drive & seconds later the emergency brake light came back on & 95% of braking system was lost again with loud grinding noise. Coasted vehicle home (less than 1/4 mile). Had vehicle towed to Infiniti dealer who is recommending replacing the brake booster system at a cost of $1,100. After much research on this issue, replacing the brake booster system sounds like a temporary fix. With a family of 7, this is our main family vehicle & knowing this could reoccur at any moment even after the brake booster system is replaced is very unsettling. The Infiniti dealer is claiming they never heard of another issue like this & they replaced 3 brake booster systems in 4 years. I find this extremely hard to believe, as I was able to print over 30 pages of reported incidents with this same issue. We meet with the dealer tomorrow to decide if we want to pay to have this fixed. If we knew this would guarantee the issue would be resolved & not at any moment we would lose our brakes, it wouldn't be an issue. This is beyond frustrating & scary. Infiniti should make this an immediate recall to prevent further tragedy & stop telling customers this is the first time hearing of this issue!.
Slip brake alert lighted on the dashboard followed by grinding brake noise and vehicle stopped. This happened multiple times and the scary thing is, I always have my whole family in this SUV every weekend.
While driving Qx56 at approx 40 mph brake light on dash came on. At intersection to turn left brakes would not function and slowing down was difficult. There was a lound clunk and "boing" sound when brakes were applied. Turned to avoid traffic and started up hill allowing speed to decrease. Motor was turned off. When restarted to examine failure light was no longer on and brake seemed to work fine. Contacted local infinity dealer, was told it was brake booster and would most likley need replaced. Was told there was no service bulletin or recall but they have seen the issue quite a few times.
