I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety issue I experienced with my Infiniti Qx60, which I believe warrants immediate investigation and action. On 3/15/25, during a family trip for spring break, I was driving my 2017 Infiniti Qx60 at approximately 75 mph on the highway when the sunroof suddenly exploded without warning. The sound was akin to gunfire, and the shock of the incident left my family and me deeply shaken. The explosion occurred without any prior impact or debris hitting the vehicle, and there were no adverse weather conditions that could have contributed to the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the situation could have been far worse had the glass shattered inward or caused a loss of vehicle control. This incident caused significant inconvenience and financial burden. I was 350 miles from home and had to divert to the nearest town to assess the damage and determine how to proceed. Since the incident occurred on a Saturday, no repairs could be made until the following Monday, leaving my family stranded and forcing us to incur additional expenses for lodging, meals, and alternate transportation to reach our destination, which was still 150 miles away. Upon researching this issue, I discovered numerous reports from other Infiniti Qx60 owners who have experienced similar spontaneous sunroof explosions. Despite the apparent frequency of these incidents, there has been no indication of a recall or any corrective action from the manufacturer. This is deeply concerning, as it poses a significant safety risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the road. I urge the nhts to investigate this matter thoroughly and consider mandating a recall or other corrective measures to address this defect in Infiniti Qx60 vehicles. Additionally, I hope that steps can be taken to ensure that current and future owners are protected from this potentially dangerous issue. Please let me know if there is any additional information needed.
The car starts when it wants to and doesn't when it wants to. Sometimes a few hours later it will start others a day or 2. . . Nothing comes up when scanning, no codes. What is the deal?.
I have a 2017 qx 60 Infiniti and when I was driving it it just automatically lost power. I replaced the battery and the alternator the vehicle drives about 15 minutes and loses power again.
Abs lit stayed lit and awd error lit also on.
Driving on highway, sunroof was closed properly and it suddenly exploded causing glass shards to fly everywhere.
Components :latches/lock vehicle: 2017 Infiniti Qx60 date of incident: 6/16/2022/ mileage 80,000 safety concern: in the event of a crash or fire, a jammed door could delay response time and cause severe injury or death. I was placing my grandchild in the rear passenger seating area when I closed the door, drove to the local market and was unable to open the door from the inside of the cabin or from the outside. I tried several times to use the unlock button and the door still did not open. No dashboard warnings came on before or after the failure. I took the vehicle to the dealership, they were also unable to open the door after several attempts and was told by the mechanic that the door actuator was defective and to fix the problem would cause severe damage to in the inside of the door. I then contacted the manufacturer and was told they have not heard of this issue and no active recalls are listed for my concern.
Driving down the highway when my sunroof glass exploded. Temperature in the 50's and unlikely that anything hit it to cause this. People online reporting the same thing. Sounds like a gunshot and could lead to an accident.
My car Infiniti Qx60 2017 the horn started to honk with no reason it wouldn't stop honking 1st time, 2nd time it happened it was coming smog from the horns and now the horn won't work changed the horn fuse and it will burn it every time so it has a shortcut somewhere so now we have a car with no horn until is fixed!.
My car has had issues from the day I got it which have gotten progressively worse and now I don't feel safe and I'm reluctant to drive it let alone make the payment for it after taking it to the dealer three times explaining the issue and lights that come in. I have had bad smell coming from it and after the third time today being at deale and getting a loaner car that is not even semi comparable to my car as I have an infinity qx 60 and they have given me a tiny tiny q30 or qx and refused to give me a car my size which is another story . My car after getting it tonight from dealer and then telling me recall was fixed stalled on the freeway and came to a drop as the car behind me was inches away from slamming into me. After starting and restarting the engine it drive again and prior to getting home as I live on a hill it stalled and wouldn't start. This happens repeatedly and the dealer is telling me no codes come up when j bring jt in. It barely drives and has no speed and clearly it's a dangerous situation and j have a four and six year old in this car and infinity can't fix these problematic cars then I suggest putting your customers in a different car. I won't drive with a string odor, electrical issues and stalling one more day and figure it out cus I'm losing work and clients and this is now digging into my pocket book and it's putting myself and toddlers in a compromising safety situation. I was informed recall was fixed when I got it today and rhis website wouid have been updated if that was true I'm furious and my mechanic has informed me of what these issues are and he has given me codes thet infinity refuses to address since the lights are not on the one time they turned far in. What kind of mechanics can't figure a safety issue in the engine ? I need resolution and reimbursement for my payment as I am entitled to drive in a safe car.
Car failed to accelerate on a major highway (thruway)!! virtually no warning at all - only ped indicator light flashed on/off. Very lucky to be alive ( myself and 2 kids) . Was able to pull to side of road , into rest /truck stop. Area- battery light (red) illuminated . Called service dept at local dealership - described issue . . Now car is turned off - started car again engine turns over - shift to d to drive - car doesn't move. Infinity , service (lack of ) dept , roadside assistance , consumer affairs . . . . Useless . Left stranded for over 8 hrs . Police finally came to my assistance . . This is a transmission problem , defect - Nissan & infinity are aware of cvt issue - this is criminal . I was put in a potentially fatal situation with 2 kids . Many complaints on file . The 2017 Qx60 needs to be recalled . Do not trust this vehicle . . Quite sure lawsuits have already been filed . Shame on infinity for selling these cars . Hopefully , a recall will take place before people are killed . Inconceivable!!!!! I was lucky. Case file number available if necessary.
9-20-2017 approximately 4pm, 90 deg sunny day, driving 2017 Infiniti Qx60 on interstate when sunroof exploded. No overpass or truck in area where failure occurred. This was my first occurrence of this failure. Loud noise at time of failure. Photos taken later. Vehicle taken to Infiniti dealer for repair the following day. Sunroof replaced. I have $1000 deductible insurance so I elected to pay the $1319. 22 bill from my personal account since warranty replacement was not offered. I later appealed the expense as a warranty failure after seeing a tv news program about exploding sunroofs. I began my appeal with the dealer 10-13-2017 and was eventually denied by an Infiniti case mngr on 10-25-2017. Case mngr said "the failure is not a known concern at Infiniti". My research on the internet showed that there are a large number of people who have experienced this type of failure and the car manufacturer are not taking care of these problems as they should. Consumer reports has put out two articles in the last eleven months about this problem. I bought my car new 1-30-2017 and the sunroof failed 9-20-2017 while in normal operation. The failure occurred less than eight months after the vehicle was put in service. The manufacturers who fail to honor these failures should be punished and made to provide restitution to owners who have been affected.
