2 Equipment problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

While driving in slow, heavy highway traffic, the vehicle suffered a structural failure of the rear crossmember / rear subframe due to severe rust. This is a safety-critical structural component and part of the rear suspension mounting system. When braking, the vehicle swerved hard to the right and crossed into the shoulder. Fortunately, the vehicle was already in the right lane, which likely prevented a more serious incident. The failure created a serious risk of loss of control and crash. After the incident, I took it straight to a mechanic on the way and the condition was identified as a broken rear crossmember caused by advanced corrosion. The failed component is available for inspection.

3 Equipment problem of the 2022 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 01/28/2026

On February 28, 2025, at approximately 8:43 a. M. , while driving on highway 3 in alvin, TX, the panoramic sunroof glass on my vehicle suddenly and violently exploded/shattered without any warning. At the time of the incident, no other vehicles were around me, and there was no impact from debris, rocks, or any external object. Thank god my kids had just been dropped off at school or this would be a whole different situation. The explosion was extremely loud and occurred spontaneously while the vehicle was in motion. My husband was a passenger in the vehicle at the time. The sudden failure created an immediate safety hazard due to the risk of flying glass, distraction, and potential loss of vehicle control. My husband immediately looked around to note if someone threw something or if construction vehicles were around. It was a very slow quiet morning! nothing was inside the car where the hole in sunroof appeared! there was no prior damage, no weather-related event, and no indication of stress or cracking before the glass failure occurred. After the incident, I researched this issue and discovered multiple reports from other Infiniti Qx60 owners describing nearly identical panoramic sunroof glass failures, often referred to as the glass “exploding” or shattering outward while driving, and frequently without any impact or external cause. These reports include vehicles from 2022 and nearby model years, suggesting a recurring and known issue. Although there is currently no recall issued for this defect, the number and consistency of complaints indicate a potential manufacturing, material, or installation defect in the panoramic sunroof glass. I am submitting this complaint to formally document the incident and request that NHTSA investigate this serious safety concern, as spontaneous sunroof glass failure poses a clear risk to vehicle occupants. I am still a week later working with insurance to get this fixed. Costing me money and a vehicle I can’t drive!.

4 Equipment problem of the 2023 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

Sunroof shattered into pieces without any object collision with dealer refusing to change even though it was under warranty even though it was not due to any external object hitting or nothing. Just shattering.

5 Equipment problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 12/26/2025

Lafontaine import novi, inc. Dba lafontaine novi, a franchised Infiniti entity with actual knowledge of these recalls (16v-244; 15v-033; 13v-445), failed to disclose or remediate these "risk of crash" and "risk of injury" defects before selling me a 2014 Infiniti Qx60 on Nov 5, 2025. The dealer provided a "pre-delivery inspection" record on November 4, 2025 to carfax, but delivered the vehicle with these open recalls and multiple "red alert" mechanical leaks in the engine, transmission, and fuel systems. Only 588 miles after delivery, on Dec 26, 2025, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic cooling system failure (the radiator and transmission cooler) which demonstrated that the vehicle was not safe or roadworthy. The service manager admitted on January 6, 2026, that the radiator was defective and needed full replacement, which confirms the vehicle was sold with a pre-existing systemic failure.

6 Equipment problem of the 2020 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 12/20/2025

I am submitting this formal safety defect complaint regarding a serious and life-threatening incident involving my 2020 Infiniti Qx60. While traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour on a public highway, the vehicle’s hood suddenly and violently flew fully open without warning. This resulted in an immediate and complete loss of forward visibility while the vehicle was in motion. The hood had been properly closed prior to driving, and there were no warning indicators, unusual noises, or prior issues suggesting a problem with the latch mechanism. This event appeared to involve a total failure of both the primary hood latch and the secondary safety latch system, which are specifically designed to prevent this type of occurrence. The incident created an extremely dangerous situation with a high risk of a catastrophic collision, serious injury, or death to myself and other motorists. I was fortunate to maintain control of the vehicle and safely slow down without a crash. This was a near-miss catastrophic event caused by a critical safety system failure. A hood opening at highway speed creates total loss of visibility and represents a severe hazard to roadway safety. The vehicle is currently being preserved without repair so that the failure can be properly evaluated. I am reporting this incident so it can be investigated for potential design, manufacturing, or mechanical defects that could affect other drivers. Sincerely, robert ponger.

7 Equipment problem of the 2025 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 12/09/2025

Description of issue on the date(s) above, I experienced the following problem with the vehicle: • the vehicle locked its doors spontaneously (or automatically) after I exited the vehicle. • at the time of locking, the key fob (intelligent key) was inside the vehicle (or believed to be inside). • the locking happened without pressing the lock button on the key fob, without the interior lock lever being used, and without the doors being manually closed by anybody else. • I did not use the exterior “touch-sensor” or handle-lock (if equipped), or if I did, I was unaware — the lock occurred unexpectedly. • as a result, the doors were locked with keys inside, and it was not possible to reopen the doors using the key fob or interior unlock controls. • I believe this event constitutes a safety hazard / defect because the vehicle’s owner manual states that locking via exterior handle-touch should be disabled when the key is detected inside the vehicle; thus the locking behavior appears to contradict the manufacturer’s design and safety intent. Impact / consequences describe any consequences or harm caused by the incident: I was stuck out in the cold weather with my car running and had to wait for my husband to show up to unlock the door. His app was unable to unlock the car remotely. The app kept getting messages that said that unlock failed. Any other relevant information • approximate time between exit and lock (if known): unknown (few minutes?) • whether the vehicle had been left running or turned off: vehicle was running • whether child seats or passengers were inside: no one was inside the vehicle • whether you attempted to unlock using remote / key fob / manual key or via interior unlock controls: attempted remotely. My phone was in the car. Requested outcome I request that NHTSA (or the manufacturer / dealer): • investigate this locking behavior as a potential safety defect. • inform me (the reporter) of the investigation status.

8 Equipment problem of the 2026 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 11/03/2025

Hello, when I originally leased this vehicle I had electrical issues with the radio and also an intermittent rotten egg smell. I have brought my car in for this they said they fixed the radio issue but didn’t smell the smell we were smelling in it. As soon as I got it back the same stuff was happening again. I had brought it back in for service and they said they couldn’t find anything from with it. In October I was at a shopping center and and my car wouldn’t start. I had called they told me service was closing I would need to call for a tow truck I walked home because I needed to get to my son’s football game and picked up the other set of keys walked back and the vehicle started. I know it’s not the keys because the vehicle wouldn’t start with the phone app. Since that day 3 other times the vehicle wouldn’t start but eventually did within a few minutes. Last night as I was leaving the hospital visiting my mom my car wouldn’t open. I tried a few times and then used the app and the app was able to unlock the car doors. This is a brand new 2026 vehicle and I’m not getting help from the service department at the dealership. Can you please advise me on what to do?.

9 Equipment problem of the 2018 Infiniti QX60

10 Equipment problem of the 2025 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 09/19/2025

Cabin vibration happens intermittently. Purchases vehicle new with 300 miles on it. Less than a month I experienced this vibration for the first time. It has happened at least once a month since. The noise and vibration is inside the vehicle only and only noticeable when driving. It appears to be related to the noise cancellation system.

11 Equipment problem of the 2025 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 08/20/2025

I was driving about 30 mph no cars around open sky . Sunroof shatter.

12 Equipment problem of the 2024 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

Dealer replaced my driver side mirror assembly a few months ago to get rid of the wind whistling noise, but we noted the "new" mirror would vibrate even at a fairly low speed. So took it back to dealer during the 15k mile service. The tech said the mirror had too much play so the dealer ended up replacing the whole mirror assembly. But the newly replaced assembly was also vibrating. Dealer said that there is not much they can do and asked us to call infinity customer service. Customer service said that that vibration is considering within engineering spec and they are not willing to do anything about it. The vibration is very annoying - the shaking mirror is just a distraction.

13 Equipment problem of the 2023 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

We leased a 2023 Infiniti Qx60 in may 2023. After the birth of our third child recently in 2025, we discovered that when two car seats are installed in the second row using seat belts (as required), the seats cannot be flipped forward. This makes the third row completely inaccessible without removing the children and car seats each time, our children in the second row would also have to be forward facing to allow room for our car seat in the rear. Which each child at this point is rear facing and under 50lbs. Our child in the third row cannot enter and exit safely, and we cannot verify if he is buckled in correctly. In the event of an emergency, this poses a serious safety risk. The vehicle’s configuration is not suitable for safe transport of three children using car seats, which is a typical use case for this type of family vehicle.

14 Equipment problem of the 2025 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 04/25/2025

I purchased a brand-new vehicle(2025 Infiniti Qx60) from Infiniti of omaha (18201 burt st, elkhorn, ne 68022) and have experienced persistent issues with the vehicle shaking/swaying at higher speeds. The dealership has acknowledged the problem and raised it with Infiniti, but the manufacturer claims the issue is due to road conditions in omaha rather than a defect with the vehicle. Infiniti corporate sent a technician and states it’s because of the roads in omaha nebraska. Even though the 2014 Infiniti Qx60 I had for 10 years, drove on the same roads, did not have this problem. Infiniti of omaha's service department has confirmed that my vehicle does, in fact, have issues and has attempted to fix it twice. They also indicated that similar problems are occurring with other vehicles that have the same specifications as mine. They have replaced the tires, which has helped on at slower speeds. At higher speeds, I still do not feel safe in my vehicle. Despite this, the dealership is stating they cannot assist further because it is considered a manufacturer issue. As it stands, I’m left with a $70,000 vehicle that is unsafe to drive at highway speeds, and the dealership refuses to stand behind the product they sold me. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

15 Equipment problem of the 2025 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 03/22/2025

My wife was at a store and she put her merchandise into the car (with her purse and key fob) to put the cart away. As she was walking away she heard it lock and then she was unable to open the door. She had to call me from a bystander and I was able to download the Infiniti app and get her password etc and log in and unlock the car. I have looked online and this seems to be a common problem with incidents of babies being locked in the car and being unable to get in. Seriously scary issue.

16 Equipment problem of the 2017 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 03/15/2025

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety issue I experienced with my Infiniti Qx60, which I believe warrants immediate investigation and action. On 3/15/25, during a family trip for spring break, I was driving my 2017 Infiniti Qx60 at approximately 75 mph on the highway when the sunroof suddenly exploded without warning. The sound was akin to gunfire, and the shock of the incident left my family and me deeply shaken. The explosion occurred without any prior impact or debris hitting the vehicle, and there were no adverse weather conditions that could have contributed to the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the situation could have been far worse had the glass shattered inward or caused a loss of vehicle control. This incident caused significant inconvenience and financial burden. I was 350 miles from home and had to divert to the nearest town to assess the damage and determine how to proceed. Since the incident occurred on a Saturday, no repairs could be made until the following Monday, leaving my family stranded and forcing us to incur additional expenses for lodging, meals, and alternate transportation to reach our destination, which was still 150 miles away. Upon researching this issue, I discovered numerous reports from other Infiniti Qx60 owners who have experienced similar spontaneous sunroof explosions. Despite the apparent frequency of these incidents, there has been no indication of a recall or any corrective action from the manufacturer. This is deeply concerning, as it poses a significant safety risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the road. I urge the nhts to investigate this matter thoroughly and consider mandating a recall or other corrective measures to address this defect in Infiniti Qx60 vehicles. Additionally, I hope that steps can be taken to ensure that current and future owners are protected from this potentially dangerous issue. Please let me know if there is any additional information needed.

17 Equipment problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 02/14/2025

The contact owned a 2015 infinity Qx60. The contact stated that while his wife was stopped at a traffic light, black smoke was emitting from under both front seats, and entered the interior of the cab. The contact's wife returned to the work parking lot, however, the black smoke and flames were excessive and immediately exited the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. All the air bags deployed. The contact's wife was transported to the hospital by CO-workers. The doctor examined that the contact's wife had sustained 2nd degree burns on both arms and hands that required medical attention. The fire and police reports were filed. The vehicle was consumed by the fire and destroyed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact notified her insurance company.   the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

18 Equipment problem of the 2020 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 02/13/2025

I was driving at approximately 40 mph in clear weather on a familiar straight asphalt roadway in our community. I suddenly heard a loud blast. I thought it was an explosion near the roadway. I was terrified, so I immediately pulled over into a supermarket parking lot. There was a policeman there, and I asked him if he had heard the explosion. He did not hear anything but volunteered to check my vehicle. He found that the sunroof was blown out. My sunshade was closed, so no glass entered the cabin of my car. The policeman found some glass on the road at the location I was driving. I have contacted the dealer service, and they should be calling me back. I googled "2020 Infiniti Qx60 sunroof exploding" and have found many others with the same issue. I also found a website that is seeking a class action lawsuit. I am so happy that I had the sunshade closed. In the years we've owned this car, I've opened the sunroof only a few times.

19 Equipment problem of the 2025 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 02/05/2025

Very heavy vibration. Entire vehicle shaking. I thought it was the motor mounts. Very intermitent. Kicks in at 2,000 rpm. I went to dealership and found out the problem is active noise reduction has a problem with a defect on amplifier. Dealer couldn't fix the problem so they shut off the active noise cancellation function for now.

20 Equipment problem of the 2018 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 12/30/2024

The rear differential is messed up on this truck, and there is grinding noise - when I turn left or right, and there,s a whinning noise while driving, and also black fluid drips from in between the oil pan, and transmission and hissing sound when turned on. .

21 Equipment problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 10/05/2024

The car intermittently will not accelerate after being idle at stop signs etc. This has occurred on 3-5 instances in the last 4 months. All but one time when getting the vehicle later it didn't have any issues. The battery has been tested and is good, I cleaned the terminals and still had it occur. Upon reading an Infiniti forum it sounds like it is an intermittent alternator issue or electric module. This put my daughter in a stalled vehicle in an intersection several times after trying to troubleshoot issues to resolve it.

22 Equipment problem of the 2024 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 09/11/2024

Front portion of panoramic sunroof exploded while driving on the highway. No known debris hit the sunroof and there were no cars near me, and I was in open air (not under an overpass).

23 Equipment problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

We purchased this vehicle 3 days ago. Day 2 there was a transmission shudder. I know these cvt transmissions have issues but with less than 18k miles??? I looked up and yes Infiniti extended the warranty but we no longer qualify for this I don't think this is fair! it has 18k miles on it. The fact Infiniti didn't recall the transmission is ridiculous. There are thousands of people experiencing shudder issues, cars dying, this is a danger to the drivers and their families. Why is there no recall? extending a warranty didn't do anything! this cvt needs to be recalled and fixed so people aren't in danger of crashing.

24 Equipment problem of the 2022 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

The Qx60, and possibly many other Infiniti models has a serious flaw in the apple car play and android auto features. This affects my model year of 2022 but I understand from other owners it is like still an issue on model year 2023 and 2024 and likely others. The issue is there are not adequate volume adjustments for paired phones with apple car play and android auto. If you adjust the paired audio on the car's infotainment system for a phone call, then the next call that comes in will sound a deafining ringer volume. If you turn down the volume for a normal ringer volume then the audio volume on the call is so low you can't have a conversation. This may seem like a non issue, however, when a call comes in and the volume is at its previous level for a phone call, it is so startling it causes all passengers to jump and hold their ears. At least a half a dozen times this has startled me to the point where I inadvertanlty swerved across my lane bounder quickly trying to find the volume control to adjust the ringer down or answer the call. I have spoke to Infiniti dealers and their engineering support. They unfortunatley are denying an issue exist when it is very obvious. All other cars I have owned with apple car play have not acted this way. In addition, many owners on the forums are documenting similar issues and similar reactions of inadvertanly braking or swerving. I hope someone in the ntsb will test this in an Infiniti to understand how serious the issue is.

25 Equipment problem of the 2023 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 07/19/2024

The car locked with the keys inside. This has happened multiple times. My young children were strapped into their car seats outside in the summer heat when the door locked with the keys inside. We had to have firemen/police come help. Thankfully we were able to locate the second set of keys within 15 minutes and the children were wet from swimming and stayed cool because we were parked in the shade and the sun was setting.

26 Equipment problem of the 2015 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 07/18/2024

As I was driving my vehicle just turned off at the speed of 30 miles per hour with no warning no dash lights of any kind. It just shut off completely. I had to pull over to the side in hopes I don't hit anything, or anyone put my vehicle into park and restart my vehicle and this happened at around 2:45 pm. Early it happened at 12:15 pm, as I was turning around in a parking lot, the car shut off again and I had to place it in park and restart the vehicle.

32 Equipment problem of the 2022 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 05/06/2024

Safety issue with the ringtone volume in the infotainment system while connected to apple carplay(not bluetooth). The ringtone volume setting is being adjusted(unwillingly) along with the call/media volume while in a phone call. Because the call volume has to be increased to a high level in order to hear the conversation, the ringtone volume will be unintentionally increased at the same time. This cause a dangerously loud ring when a new call comes in due to the ringtone volume stay high after the previous call. The ringtone volume can be manually lowered after each call, but the loud ring still occur while adjusting, and defeat the purpose of such hand-free system. This issue cause a jump-scare every time a phone call is received, which could lead to an accident in certain situation. Repro steps: 1 - start the car and let apple carplay connect automatically. 2 - ensure the ringtone volume is set to the minimum via the car's infotainment. 3 - make a phone call using the connected phone. 4 - after the call is ringing/connected. Increase the call volume using the infotainment system's volume knob. 5 - go back to the car's infotainment system and observe the ringtone volume has been increased unintentionally. As I research the issue on the internet, the exact same concern has been reported and escalated to Infiniti/Nissan. There has been no resolution for the past 2+ years since the car has been on the market. . Read more...

33 Equipment problem of the 2014 Infiniti QX60

Failure Date: 03/18/2024

I have an Infiniti Qx60 that has a hairbag malfunctioning for a long time now. I've taken it to be serviced by Infiniti many times. However, they could never fix it. At one point, I decided to leave it alone until the last time I took the car in to be serviced. The person who was helping me noticed that I had two children car seats in the car, so he decided to tell me that this car isn't safe to be driving with young children in it. Don't know what to do since the warranties have expired. Plus, they couldn't fix it when I had warranties on the car. I'm afraid that my family is at risk driving this car. I would love to stop driving this car before something terrible happens to my children. However, it is our only means of getting around right now.
