Equipment Problems of Infiniti QX60 - part 2

On January 23, 2024, while driving home I heard what sounded like a gun shot. I checked that I was ok and exited the freeway. I pulled over and got out of my vehicle and noticed the sunroof/moonroof was shattered. I looked for overpasses and there were none in my area. I called the authorities. Once the officer arrived he noticed that the glass was bubbled out from the vehicle and not inward as it would be if someone or something struck the glass. The sunroof/moonroof shattered. I had to exit the freeway due to being startled by the loud sound of the glass shattering. Unknown on the glass breaking being reproduced. The sunroof/moonroof was inspected by a police officer. No warning or safety lights came on.

The liftgate latch failed recently. It would not secure, thus causing a safety issue. Anyone or anything could have fallen out of the vehicle. The latch assembly cost $500, and another $197 for installation. T2 automotive in palatine made the repairs on 1/22/2024. The same repair was made under warranty at motorwerks Infiniti back in 2017. The liftgate door open indicator did go on. No alarm came on prior to the failure. I believe this to be a faulty design of the liftgate latch.

My vehicle shut down while driving, my safety, the safety of others was very much at risk as the vehicle shut down with no warnings while driving at a very busy time and roads, cars where honking at me, I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer ship as they were just going to run a diagnosis and charge almost $300 dollars for that however I took my vehicle to auto zone they checked it briefly for me and found no error codes but this shut down has now happened twice while driving is very scary. The warning lamp that pop while vehicle shut down was Feb warning light along with the battery light.

I was driving my 2023 Qx60 today down a 55 mile road. No one was in front of me and two cars were very far behind me. I was not by an overpass or a golf course and it was a clear sunny day today. I heard loud pop and then the tinkling of glass going down the backside of my car. I opened the sunroof to see what had happened and immediately closed it as the glass started falling into the car from the broken sunroof. I pulled over, and looked at the sunroof. There were no rocks, golf balls, or anything else that would’ve explained why the sunroof exploded. When I called Infiniti to see why my brand new car sunroof exploded, I was told that that the sunroof explosion happens quite a bit to these cars and it is related to “thermal stress”. This is concerning to say the least and would seem to suggest a manufacturing defect on Infiniti’s part. The car is always in the garage and it was 44° outside today. I have had at least six different cars with a sunroof and this is never happened to anyone one of them before. When researching this online, I noticed that there are several cars with the same problem. Search Infinitiqx60. Com and a large forum of people are describing their exact same scenarios with their qx 60’s.

While driving at approximately 60 mph I heard a loud popping noise. Once I stopped I noticed my sunroof was completely shattered. I was not in traffic and had not gone under any underpasses. This happened all by itself. The car had been inside the garage and my ride was approximately 15-20 minutes.

Sunroof exploded driving 70 mph and interstate 77 in virginia on a 73 degree clear sunny day with no other traffic around.

There are multiple issues with the aforementioned vehicle and I have brought it to the dealership multiple times, but they stated that although Infiniti is aware of the issues they do not have a fix. When it rains out the locking mechanism fails on the vehicle and I am locked out of the vehicle. In addition to that, on multiple occasions, I place the car in park when I come to a stop and the vehicle does not stay in park. It goes back into drive. There is an overheating issue with the wireless charging pad. The charging pad is not charging the cell phone, but it is producing heat to the degree that it causes the iphone to overheat and shut down . The bluetooth system is a complete failure. During the middle of a drive when you are utilizing the navigation system the system completely shuts down. It is inoperable. This happens with apple carplay specifically and it renders the system completely useless. This is a serious safety issue.

When tempature is hot outside or if I sit in idle for a while in traffic, car starts skipping, stalling and shuts off. I’ve already taken it to two dealerships to be fixed and spent thousands of dollars and it starts doing it again in a few months.

I purchased a new 2023 infinity Qx60 in Nov. Of 2022. I had the vehicle for less than 2 months when the dashboard lit up with a shifter warning/malfunction while driving my kids to school on 2-8-23. I pulled over and stopped the vehicle to see what was going on. A shifter malfunction warning displayed. I was able to put the car in park but unable to put the shifter back in drive. After numerous tries, the vehicle shifted into drive after restarting the car. Was able to drive the vehicle straight to my local infinity dealership. I arrived prior to 7:30am and was promptly assisted. The car received a malfunction code and was shuttled home by the dealership while further diagnostics occurred. The dealership called to let me know the shifter malfunctioned and it wasn’t covered under the manufacturer warranty due to visible coffee residue. The car wasn’t safe to drive so I had no choice but to pay for the repair. The dealership had the shuttle service pick me up at my house and bring me back to the dealership in order to put me in a loaner vehicle while servicing. I was required to pay for the part so it could be ordered. The total cost was $748. 80 for the part “new shifter”/labor. The shifter was on the desk but I was told the coffee residue was cleaned off of it. I picked my car back up on 2/13. I had a major incident that occurred on the vehicle on 2/15 that I just submitted for review. The car had a safety malfunction sensing a head on collision that forcefully stopped the car while I was driving around 40-50 mph.

While driving at a speed of 70mph, on a highway at 4:15 pm temperature approx 55 f an extemely loud sound from my roof happened. I was not under any trees or near any 18 wheelers. No debris seen around my car when it happened. I pulled over when safe and looked at my roof. The sunroof had exploded! nothing else wrong with the car! this could hav caused a terrible accident had I not over-reacted. There was no warning for this explosion. I called the dealership and was told to bring it to a collision center for repair. Now waiting on the parts.

Qx60 equipped with panoramic sunroof. While driving on highway the sunroof exploded. Not behind any other vehicle, and no windshield or window damage. At approximately 9:45 am on 1/27/23 moved to right lane in anticipation that several cars about 100 ft were approaching and would be passing me. Heard a loud explosive sound (as described by my husband/passenger) almost sounded like a gun shot at that time. I feared that if we pulled over at next clearing car may not start and we would be stuck with no assistance. Drove approximately 1 mile and parked at gas station parking lot. Upon examination saw huge hole with glass missing on front panel of sunroof. No warning lamps came on, no messages through care communication system. The explosive sound caused me to fear for my safety since no warning lights alerted me to what the incident was, as glass flew off the car it could have hit coming traffic and caused them harm, should glass have entered cabin my vision would have been impaired. The only barrier to glass entering was the thin roof headliner. Dealer would not inspect and communicated that the repair or replacement was not covered under their warranty. Contacted insurance, waiting for appraiser and inspection by them.

There is a manufacture's defect in the panoramic sunroof. When driving my vehicle there is a continuous creaking sound emitting from the sunroof. This has been a problem since I picked up the vehicle. After 2. 5 weeks the service department has isolated the problem in the sunroof however there is a problem resolving the matter. The problem is finding a company to remove the sunroof and getting a solution from Infiniti USA.

Driving on highway, sunroof was closed properly and it suddenly exploded causing glass shards to fly everywhere.

I put my car in park and got out of car. The car started rolling, it was on a slight grade but it roll into a hill grade and picked up speed. It just missed another car and hit a cement wall. This is not the first time this has happened to me. It had happened three other times but I wasn’t out of my car and was able to stop it and push it harder into park. It was in park but for some reason it didn’t actually go into park electrically. It also wasn’t on a grade. My friend tried to stop the car but it was going too fast by the time he got to it. He did bush burn his knees and hit his back on the street when he fell. We have looked into reports and there have been issues with this model. I believe you should look into this farther. Someone could get hurt seriously if they haven’t already! I think there should be a recall to have the issue repaired so it doesn’t happen in the future. Vehicle keeps shutting off mid drive have to jump it to get it started. It runs ok for 1-2 days then dies again. Tested battery and checked alternator to no avail. The ac cooling fan goes up and down and draws a ton of power from the vehicle. All local mechanics can’t figure it out.

Upon arrival home, my wife and son had their doors open (driver's and passenger's front doors) and were in the process of getting out the vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle began to roll backwards down the driveway, scraping the passenger front door along my truck. My son had to run backwards to get out from between the two vehicles. He could have been knocked by the door and run over. My wife attempted to press the brakes but the vehicle was off so the brakes did not work. It rolled back into the street and stopped on the curb on the other side. Thankfully no cars were passing by and hit the car as it rolled backward. After realizing that she and my son weren't hurt, she turned the vehicle on and drove it partially into the driveway to get it out of the street. The passenger front door was bent forward and was not able to be closed on it's own. It took some force to get it to the point where we could pull it into the garage. The vehicle was towed to a body shop and repaired under insurance. To my knowledge, the physical damage was repaired but no investigation into why the vehicle suddenly rolled backward was conducted while it was in the shop. We have not had a chance to take it in since we got it back from the body shop. No warning lights or symptoms of any kind had previously presented themselves. Pictures and the repair bill are available to share along with a video from our doorbell camera.

The car does not accelerate or accelerate with jerky motion. Occasionally, the vehicle disengaged out of drive mode and would not accelerate. There seems to be some transmission issues as the vehicles is making jerky movement upon acceleration. Almost cause accident on a turn as it could not move forward out of cross traffics!.

The transmission started kicking for no reason. Car will not stop jerking.

Components :latches/lock vehicle: 2017 Infiniti Qx60 date of incident: 6/16/2022/ mileage 80,000 safety concern: in the event of a crash or fire, a jammed door could delay response time and cause severe injury or death. I was placing my grandchild in the rear passenger seating area when I closed the door, drove to the local market and was unable to open the door from the inside of the cabin or from the outside. I tried several times to use the unlock button and the door still did not open. No dashboard warnings came on before or after the failure. I took the vehicle to the dealership, they were also unable to open the door after several attempts and was told by the mechanic that the door actuator was defective and to fix the problem would cause severe damage to in the inside of the door. I then contacted the manufacturer and was told they have not heard of this issue and no active recalls are listed for my concern.

The sunroof shattered while I was driving on highway, glass fell down all over me. Sound like a gunshot, I am a veteran with ptsd already and it scared me. Thankfully I was able to hold myself together until I got to the dealership, then I broke down.

While driving down a clear road on a beautiful day, the sunroof in my Qx60 randomly exploded, outwardly. It sounded like a gunshot hit the car. Glass went everywhere, hit oncoming traffic, the windshield, and hood of car. We immediately pulled over and noticed the sunroof was expanding outwardly towards the sky, not inward. It was making a concerning sound in the process. The sound scared all of and almost caused a wreck. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and my husband was in the passenger side and my 20 month old son was in the back seat car seat.

The vehicle on at least 4 occasions has stopped accelerating when driving the vehicle (first time I believe was fall 2021, this last time was spring 2022). Most of the times that the issue was noticed, the car was was moving at slower speeds (35 or less). The engine remained running but pressing on the gas pedal didn't make the vehicle increase it's speed. The first time it did this we took it to the dealership to inspect. They could not replicate the issue and they said that no error codes showed up. We left with no repairs or answers. It happened 2 more times after that. Each of those times we were able to stop the vehicle and get it to go again or it would start to respond to pushing on the gas pedal and would accelerate. The 4th time this happened I was in the middle of an intersection turning and it wouldn't accelerate. I was able to slowly roll into a gas station. I tried stopping and turning the vehicle off and on again to see if the problem would go away, however each time the car only slowly inched forward. I parked and then the vehicle started acting weird. The ac shut off and the steering wheel locked. There were three error lights that came on. The first said "fcw malfunction see owner's manual" and second was "iba off" and then the "! inside a triangle" appeared. These appeared only after stopping the vehicle for the last time right before it wouldn't start again. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. The error reading they got was c1601 and they believe the alternator needs to be replaced. This doesn't seem to line up with the issues we have been having nor the error warning lights that appeared. The last time this happened my child was in the car with me. Had we pulled out to turn and the car wouldn't go we could have very easily been hit by oncoming traffic. It is very troubling that the dealership doesn't seem to really know what is wrong with the car.

I purchased my 2018 Qx60 in 2021 at competition Infiniti as a certified pre-own vehicle. I soon began to hear a rattling noise and the steering wheel would vibrate a little. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer several times with this complain and they keep telling me that their is nothing that the can do for me because that’s the way the vehicle is built. The noise as I was told is common in Qx60 models and that I’m not the only person that has complained about it. I told him that I don’t expect for a $30,000+ luxury vehicle to sound that. They also explained to me that it was something that was built in the vehicle to help with fuel efficiency. I think he called it a droner or something like that. I love the look my vehicle but I hate driving my vehicle because of this noise. I filed a complaint with Infiniti consumer service as well, who instruct me to have the fail inspected by another Infiniti dealer to make sure the dealer is not refusing to fix the problem. I am disgusted that a vehicle that I purchased at an Infiniti dealer is sounding like this. If you can provide any help in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.

The car engine suddenly shut off itself while I am driving in the middle of the road. The engine and the collision sensor lights were on, I had to fully stop the car and put it into "p" then restart the engine in order to go again. It was a heavy snowing day, I drove pretty slow about 20- 30 mph. It happened twice that day and one of the times I was stopped at the middle of an intersection. There were no warning lamps or any other symptoms at all, and my car still has fuel which the dealer can prove. It's extremely dangerous because my car just suddenly has to stop especially it was a snowing day. I got the car tolled to an Infiniti dealer the next day, they ran a check and did a test drive (was not snowing the next day) but they couldn't duplicate the problem, so they cannot fix anything. Contacted Infiniti cooperate but they said if the dealer couldn't duplicate the problem, they cannot do anything about it.

Qx60 2022 did not pass a NHTSA crash test. Is it safe to drive? thank you.

Shuddering, shaking & skipping while driving. It’s a nightmare. The car (qx60- 2015) can’t go over 20 miles without “jumping” on me. I am fearing for my safety. It’s only a bulletin by Infiniti and not a recall. This is unacceptable.

Sunroof exploded while driving. Glass exploded everywhere and could have hit my children in the backseat, as well as my husband and I sitting in the front. No warning signs at all.

Driving on interstate, sunroof exploded spontaneously. Large hole in sunroof glass. Sounded like a shotgun went off followed by shattered glass. There was no prior damage to the glass before it exploded.

Driving down the highway when my sunroof glass exploded. Temperature in the 50's and unlikely that anything hit it to cause this. People online reporting the same thing. Sounds like a gunshot and could lead to an accident.

On March 26, 2021 the sunroof exploded and shattered during commute home from work in dallas on i30 eastbound near the ferguson road exit. Traffic was surprisingly light and there were no large trucks near me.

I was driving on the freeway at about 1:40pm today(03/9/2021). All of sudden hear some kind of loud gun shot and 1 second later, my sunroof is shattered. Also, the forward collision system automatically breaks by itself when there is no vehicle or any kind of object.

My car Infiniti Qx60 2017 the horn started to honk with no reason it wouldn't stop honking 1st time, 2nd time it happened it was coming smog from the horns and now the horn won't work changed the horn fuse and it will burn it every time so it has a shortcut somewhere so now we have a car with no horn until is fixed!.

Heard a loud noise when making a turn and steering wheel started shaking. Car became not drivable so had it towed to dealer. They said wheel was about to break off from the entire assembly. I didn't hit anything and was very scary.
