2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 11/03/2017

I was slowing to stop in a line of traffic on a city street. As I slowed, the brake pedal felt soft, and the car revved up, attempting to accelerate. I then pushed heavily onto the brake pedal but had no ability to stop the car. The engine continued to rev. Luckily, I was slowing from a far enough distance that I was able to forcefully put the car into neutral and stop the car. However, the engine continued to rev even though both feet were off all pedals and the car was in neutral. I then tapped the brake pedal in an attempt to get the engine to stop revving, but it had no effect. Next, I tapped the gas pedal to attempt to get the engine to stop revving, with this, the engine did stop revving and returned to normal rpm's. Very scary and quite disturbing, especially since I have read over 30 complaints on websites regarding the same issue others have had with their Jaguars. Why is nothing being done? how many people need to report this to have a case opened?.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 06/20/2017

While on the expressway while coming to a stop my car switched into reverse on its own while it was in the drive. The car began to drive backwards almost causing a major crash on i64 east in virginia. This nearly resulted in me losing my life as well as passengers and other drivers. The car also has an automatic parking lock engaging error which locked my entire car and prevented me from driving. This also occurred and nearly a week ago in drive thru a week ago. While in the drive thru the car locked in park and would not allow me to drive. Unfortunately, I had to pay to have my car towed from a mcdonalds drive thru around 2:00am due to the parking lock error. Also there is an issue with the transmission that does not allow the car to catch. This I believe is the reason the car is able to slip gears in to reverse which is very dangerous. Initially I thought the issues with the car may have been a result of something I was doing. But after researching I saw that there are as many as 10 recalls for my car year and model. I was able to easily identify that my car had the exact problems listed.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

My 2003 Jaguar S-type was recalled in 2004, recall #42036 (r513) power train: automatic transmission. I purchased my Jaguar as the second owner 1 1/2 years ago. I have had trouble with the car. For instance when I attempt to pass another vehicle on the highway and try to speed up the transmission slows the car down significantly. If I am traveling at 55 m. P. H and accelerate the car will immediately slow to about 30 m. P. H or less. It is very scary! and could result in a crash (as the warning stated on the recall)! the repair shop ran a computer diagnostic on my car. The code on the computer states "the transmission needs re-programming of the transmission control module as the transmission is slipping into neutral under load. " the shop said there was an open recall on the car and the dealer needs to update the computer software to correct the problem. The car has no stickers saying recall service was ever done on it. The dealer said they cannot perform the service under the recall as the recall as there is no open field action on my vehicle although there is a currently open campaign. The dealer stated the manufacturer has the recall listed as completed. In contacting the manufacturer opened an investigation stating the recall was completed 03/09/05. 4 days later Jaguar called back and said they need a letter or email from NHTSA stating tread's recommendation to manufacturers to "diagnose the impairment, thus nullifying further recurrence of the impairment. " are you able to assist me by giving me something in writing to give to the Jaguar manufacturer explaining their responsibility in correcting a recall as stated in the transportation recall enhancement accountability and documentation (tread) act ? if the recall problem with my car was completed it was not done correctly as the car is repeating the same dangerous problem. Thank you or your assistance!.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Jaguar S-type

The contact and the front seat passenger sustained minor injuries. A police report was not filed of the incident. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The black box was reviewed but the dealer was unable to retrieve any information. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure and current mileage was 80,000.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 11/16/2011

The distance of the brake pedal and accelerator pedal are almost the same distance from the car floor and the pedals are close enough that a foot can contact both. After starting the car in a parking lot and putting in drive I stepped on the brake but the car lurched forward and the harder I pressed the brake the faster the car went over a concrete barrier. The cause was, of course, that I was stepping on both pedals. A year later the same thing happened and I rammed and broke a garage door. The height of the brake pedal must be raised about an inch so that stepping on the brake pedal will not allow simultaneous stepping the accelerator. I have contacted Jaguar, north America ref# [xxx]. On my car I have put a 7/8 inch block on the brake pedal to raise the height. If it had been a person ahead of me instead of a garage door I probably would have killed him. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 04/16/2009

I saw on the news today how a lady was entering a restaurant parking lot and her vehicle sudden lurched forward and caused her to crash into a fence. Well if the car was a Jaguar s type I'm sure the company would tell her what they told me. There is nothing wrong with the car. I had 2004 Jaguar s type twice the car lurched forward when I was pulling into a parking spot. I had both feet on the brake and I was shifting through the gears to get the car to stop. In one incident the car stopped about 5ft. Into the spot in front of me. In the second incident I did the same thing and the car finally stopped when the car got hung up on the curb. I filled a report with Jaguar in new jersey and they said my only recourse was to file an insurance claim???? I brought the car to two dealers and was told they were told by Jaguar not to touch the car because that would mean that Jaguar was at fault. I had to trade in the car because every time I came to a stop, I didn't know if I was going to crash into the car in front of me. There are numerous reference to my incident on the web under Jaguar lurch. Jaguar should be made accountable and made to fix the problem which they say does not exist. Thanks.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 01/16/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Jaguar st3. While idling at a stop light, with the his foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive, the consumer stated the vehicle spontaneously began accelerating. 10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

2001 Jaguar S-type v-6. I receive an engine failsafe mode message on dash. The car hesitates and may stall while driving. Computer says it is the throttle body housing to throttle pedal unit (which has been replaced. ) this occurs primarily in the morning when I first start driving and it will stay in this mode from 5 to 10 minutes then go to normal driving mode. The last time it stayed in the failsafe mode for about 30 minutes. Two mechanics "think it is the throttle body control but they cannot say for sure but in their opinion this is a part that fails on many jags. The failure is a real safety issue since you do not know when it can happen. At some stop lights it will just die in mid-turning of a corner. After replacing the throttle pedal which was one of the possible parts problems, it returned with the same problem after about a week. I cannot get any information from Jaguar to see if this is an ongoing problem for Jaguars. The only real information is on blogs and chat rooms on jag repairs. This has to be a design flaw that owners should not have to bear the burden of buying a $ 2000 part, especially if it is being ignored by the manufacturer.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 05/07/2007

While stopped at a traffic light with right foot on the brake and the transmission in drive the car surged forward on its own at a rapid rate, moving forward considerably more than a car length before heavy braking slowed it down in the middle of the intersection against a red light. The engine than returned to idle just as fast and mysteriously as it accelerated. At no time was the accelerator pedal touched. The stability control system light came on indicating failure of the system.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 04/06/2007

Parking brake failure, disc not availabe and engine failed. All these indicators came on one after the other and the brakes would not stop the car, nor would the car accelerate. The car leaped forward and then slowed to a stop on its own. Dealer stated they repaired the recall items and could not state why the problem persistsed it happened three times, and the vehiclewas still covered by full factory warranty.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 10/10/2006

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 04/04/2006

I applied brake & made right turn into parking space. I then applied more pressure to brake to stop car. Car did not stop, but continued to move forward as if I had not applied more pressure to brake. Realizing I may hit curb, I pushed brake peddle down hard, & added left foot to brake pedal along with right foot. Brake pedal lost all resistance, & my feet went down to the floor. Car accelerated forward & crashed into cement steps. Car was towed to jag authorized body shop, then towed to dealer for diagnosis. Dealer sent computer readout to Jaguar engineers to analyze. They could not "find" the problem, so Jaguar told me that there is no problem! just because Jaguar could not "find" the problem, does not mean there is no problem! Jaguar will not disclose to either myself or dealer what parts were tested or results of tests. Jaguar just says car conforms to manufacturer specifications. Jaguar refuses to put in writing that this car is safe to drive. Another indication of a malfunction is that 5 days before the accident I re- leased this 2003 car. Dealer looked at the mileage on it and wrote it on the lease. Then 5 days later when it crashed & got towed to the body shop, the body shop wrote down the mileage upon arrival. ( car was not able to be driven). My insurance appraiser and their investigator also wrote down that same mileage number. The odometer had registered 440 miles more than on the date of the lease, yet I had actually only driven it a maximum of 100 miles! dealer & Jaguar said they have no way to diagnose this & put blame on clerical error. No clerical error could explain 440 miles! Jaguar cannot explain this, so they ignored I!. They can't explain why the car did not stop and accelerated, so they blame that on driver error! noticing so many other complaints from Jaguar owners on your web-site for the very same thing. I believe there is a very serious safety issue that Jaguar refuses to acknowledge and can't fix!.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Jaguar S-type

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

When I bought the car a week later it blew hot air, I was told it only needed freon. I found out later that there was a leak and it is $1200. A week after that the car would not start the dealer picked the car up and said that the battery was dead because I left the radio on, it has happened over 30 times, not true there is something wrong. I have replaced tires at least six times. Tires completely separate. I was driving and car slowed down on freeway and I was almost hit, I pulled over and it stopped and did it again and I had to push the traction control button, almost cost me my life! it now happens when I hit a bump. When I turn the car makes a extremely loud noise, (embarrassing) I was told it is a ball joint and can catch on fire. Engine light has always been on and is now blinking and the car shakes and hesitates. I had to pay to get the brakes fixed 2 months after purchasing. Radio turns on for no reason and runs battery down. I was told I have two leaks in my shocks and it is $1800 each. When I back up and turn the steering wheel vibrates. I can't even use the cigarette lighter to charge my cell because it does not work and has been replaced twice. The remote just stop working and I was charged $100 to reconfigure. The brakes act funny, can't even explain it. This car is unreal, a complete piece of junk. I can't even remember half the stuff I have endured and the money I have spent.
