Jaguar X-type owners have reported 2 problems related to suspension noise (under the suspension category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jaguar X-type based on all problems reported for the X-type.
The Jaguar dealer replaced the transmission and related parts in the car as it was un-drivable. After re-assembly, the car would make clunking sounds when turning tight turns and over bumps and dips. This became more noticeable over time, until the dealer wanted to replaced most of the suspension. It turns out that the transmission sub-frame is bolted through the floor pan to spot-welded nuts. The technician broke these nuts loose during re-installing the frame member (perhaps by over-torquing). The drivetrain would then shift during the tight turns and over bumps making a loud clunking in the unibody.

3-5 months after purchasing the car I noticed irregular noises coming from underneath of the car. I approached Jaguar service (kings Jaguar) and inquired about my concern. Service advisor told car is not broken in yet. Noises were getting worse; dealer told me that noises are regular and nothing is wrong(work was done). A new service advisor took over the job and after my first inquiry many parts in suspension and transmission were replaced. Things got better, but some problems remained. Dealer tried to fix them, but did not succeed. One time my car was in the dealership 1 month and 10 days. Jaguar north America refused and the report that was given to me stays: no problems exist (why did they hold my car for 1 month and 10 days?). After that point things have changed: service advisor started to avoid me, never answered or returned my phone calls. I contacted the Jaguar of na, case # 6775449 on 04. 04. 06, spoke several times with the customer service rep ms. Siobhan (1-800-452-4827 ext 2876. She sent me back to the dealer. On 05. 03. 06 I brought my car to the Jaguar of great neck and the whole drive shaft was replaced (the reason for vibration that was not duplicated at kings Jaguar). Also leaking oil pan gasket was replaced. Some noises still existed and keyless entry was not working again. This time I contacted Jaguar customer service supervisor ms. Bettie. With her help factory rep inspected my car on 05. 10. 06 - 05. 12. 06. The reason for whining noise and remote were fixed (were not duplicated at kings and great neck shops). The scratching metal by metal noise was called normal. I asked Jaguar of north America to exchange my car. Ms. Bettie denied it saying that my car repaired and, if needed, will be repaired again. My car was in shops 13 times for over 2 months. I feel nervous while driving, what is next to get loose or stop working in my car. My safety concern is great because I travel a lot, and I don't want any danger to myself and my family while driving.
