Power Train Problems of Jaguar XJ

The contact's husband owned a 2011 Jaguar Xj. As the contact's husband attempted to park the vehicle into a parking space, the vehicle began to suddenly accelerate with his foot on the brake pedal. The contact's husband depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard; however, the failure continued. As the contact's husband lifted his foot off the brake pedal, the vehicle crashed into a median. The contact stated that the failure occurred so suddenly that they are unaware if any warning light appeared on the instrument panel. The front air bag partially deployed upon impact. The contact's husband was taken to the hospital by an ambulance where he was treated for both a neck sprain and a back sprain. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard and was later determined to be a total loss. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 20v557000(air bags) which was linked to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

My 2015 Jaguar Xj , which was in park gear - with engine running, started rolling back on the driveway in a dangerous and unexplained fashion and almost hit my kids and I. Backed car out of garage onto driveway. Passenger side mirrow was not in proper position. Put vehicle in park and left engine running. Walked around car and when I touched mirror vehicle started moving forward. Jumped in passenger door and leaning across console put hand on brake. Both doors slammed shut and were damaged as doors hit garage frame. Reached up with other hand and shut engine off. A few years ago I had an issue where the car was stopped at a light and when I took foot off brake and touched the gas the car would not move. This was a software issue and dealer had to reprogram so it did not happen again. This seems to be the reverse where the engine was in park but started moving forward on its own. Driveway slopes down from the garage to the street.

While stopped in the road waiting for another car. With foot on brake, the car suddenly goes full throttle. Driver has both feet applied on the brake and the car still moves forward burning rubber, and then after a few seconds it goes back to idle. The car does this once or twice a year, the last time doing damage to a car in front of it. This is the fifth time this has happened. The car is idling normally with the right foot on the brake and it will just go full throttle all by itself. It has happened enough that we know we do not have both the brake and the gas pedal depressed. From doing online research I believe Jaguar and Toyota / Lexus used the same system for controlling acceleration. I replaced the throttle body after the fender bender, it evidently did not help.

On multiple occasions, the stop/start feature fails and the car stalls while in gear. The drive position indicator flashes and in order to move the car, it must be shutdown and then restarted.

2005 Jaguar Xjr goes into limp home mode (reduced performance mode) every once a while and be able to drive 10mph max. Car in the rear might crash for sudden loss of speed. Dealer tried to read obd code but nothing was detected so no way to fix it. There are many Xj owner experiencing same issue. Car will be drivable after restarting engine but dangerous to drive.
