Four problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 2004 Jaguar XJ8. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
An incident with the vehicle occurred sometime around christmas 2011. The motor surged while I was fully stopped at a street light. The motor was running, the car was in drive gear, and my foot was on the brake. I was able to quickly bring the car under control. A second event occurred in 2012, may 15th, at 11:00 p. M. While I was fully stopped at a drive through window. Again the motor surged, this time with a loud screeching sound. I applied maximum brake pressure but the car continued to surge forward, approximately six feet. I sustained full force pressure to the brake, threw the car into neutral gear, and turned off the ignition in order to stop the car. I immediately drove it home where it has remained parked---except for two excursions to the sacramento Jaguar dealership service department.
The contact owns a 2004 Jaguar Xj8. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited abnormal acceleration three times when applying the brakes. In order to stop the acceleration, the vehicle would be shifted into neutral. The vehicle was not inspected for the failure and was no longer being driven. The failure and current mileage was 115,000.
While stopped at a red light, foot on brake, shift in drive, vehicle went into very high rate of acceleration and lunged uncontrollably forward. Luckily there was no vehicle in front of me as I would have crashed into it. I notified the dealer and he referred me to a local dealer. The vehicle was inspected and I was assured that they found nothing wrong. This was a very scary situation and the manufacturer should seriously look into the matter.
While parking the vehicle it accelerated. Consumer turned the vehicle off to stop. At the second occurrence consumer was at a complete stop when the vehicle accelerated causing it to strike the vehicle in front. Dealer was unable to find any defects.
