Eight problems related to brake light on have been reported for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee based on all problems reported for the 2014 Cherokee.
Emergency brake light is on in dashboard. Emergency break will not power off and the light will remain. Emergency break does not click on or off anymore.
While either slowing to a stop or accelerating from a stop, the vehicle "jerks", or "lunges". Though I apply the pedals smoothly (gradually), the car moves as if I were pumping the brake at ~1 second intervals. Because the car is in drive and my foot is not on the brake, this causes drivers behind me to get awfully close (as my brake lights do not signal that I am stopping). This happens chronically (>1x /week).
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude it has over 100,000 miles over it I just recently had the transmission service which was no more than fluid change. Recently while driving to a restaurant to pick up some dinner the parking brake service light came on yellow indication came on I was just driving normal weather no snow no rain sitting in line at the drive-thru. I pulled into a parking spot to place it in park and to see if I could release the parking brake as the parking brake indicator light was on. Once I place the vehicle in park the emergency parking brake engaged the brake light came on and it will not release. Had the vehicle towed to my house which is less than a mile away call the dealership and they just kept asking for codes there was no codes to be given. I have tried many solutions including of disconnecting the battery pulling the fuses I have pulled the brake module from the back now that there was a little moisture in there. I tried it out and ride it let it sit a day or two. The brake will not release. Local dealership wants me to bring it in for an expensive diagnosis. After jacking up the vehicle myself I was able to determine that it was only the driver side that will not release. I was also told by the dealer that if I just rocked it between reverse and drive that it would release. It did release once but I literally had to drive with the parking brake on until it did let's not do that again. I replace the module with one I found online from another Jeep Cherokee and it did not correct the problem. Local dealerships have no idea have never heard of it was no help whatsoever.
My electronic parking brake malfunctioned. The vehicle was parked in a driveway and turned off without activating the parking brake. When I returned to the vehicle and restarted it the parking brake was engaged and would not turn off. In addition, the red brake light, and yellow electronic park brake warning light on the dashboard appeared; the odometer was flashing; and, service four-wheel drive appeared on the dashboard message window. After several attempts flipping the parking brake switch from the on and off positions, then holding the switch in the "off" position for several seconds, the parking brake did disengage. All of the lights remained on. Each time the car was placed back into "park" the parking brake would re-engage, and I needed to go back through the same process to disengage the parking brake. I brought the car in for service due to the issue on 9/13/19 at a certified Jeep dealer/technician. The technician advised that the cause of the problem was corrosion of the electronic parking brake module located in the rear of the vehicle, due to water somehow accessing this area. Importantly, the technician could not identify how water got into the area. The technician replaced the corroded module and wiring harness. The technician advised that they could not guarantee that the issue would not re-occur as they did not know how water accessed the parking brake module, but that they had resealed the entire area and were hopeful this would be a permanent fix. I have not had any issues in approx. 60 days/2000 miles since having the module replaced. The cost of the parts and labor to replace the module was $963. I believe this to be a latent defect which adversely impacts the safety of the vehicle.
While driving on a 4 lane highway at 65 mph the vehicle partially lost power and would not accelerate, up shift, or ownshift, the brake lights started flashing, along with many other lights on the dash including check engine. I pulled over to the side of the highway and shut off the Jeep. I waited a minute then started it back up. The service parking brake message was on the message center, the odometer is blinking, and 4wd is temporarily unavailable. I had it looked at by a mechanic and they showed me the park brake module had water intrusion and was very much corroded.
While driving about 60 mph the car lost all acceleration and slowed very quickly, the engine light came on and the assist emergency brake light came on ( I think that was what it said. As I pulled to the road side there was little no rpms . I shut the car off and waited , restarted and still no rpms. I disconnected the battery after googling the problem and restarted and lights where all gone . This was great for about 4 days and maybe 300 miles and again it happened . This time I had my cade reader and received a p1dcd code, I did not clear code but shut engine down and restarted. The car ran with rpms ok but was a bit sluggish . I called dealer when I got home and they said I would have to pay for them to do a diognostic test to figure what the problem is. I drive my kids in the mornings and feel this could lead to a serious accident . I dont feel safe driving it myself let alone my children with me.
70 mph on intersate hwy, suddenly emergency brake comes on. Car immediately brakes to 35 mph before car can be moved to emergency lane. Mil light is on, emergency brake light is on, transmission gear light is flashing, screen command says "park the car, service transmission and parking brake". Emergency brake light on console is off. Ignition turned on and off 6-8 times, try to drive, car won't move. Cycling ignition and transmission shifter car suddenly starts working normally except for mil light. Scan revels no codes. Car runs fine for two weeks and again at 70 mph on interstate the emergency brake comes almost stopping the car in slow lane. Repeated the procedure referenced above for about 5 minutes until the car started running normally. Mil was on for 50 miles but no codes stored or freeze frame. This occurred 5 days after having recall r05 performed, rrt 14-040, and pcm update.
Was stopped at a red light in an intersection when my instrument cluster/screen lit up with the following: cel on abs/brake lights on service parking brake on 4x4 system disabled odometer flashing upon all those messages/lights coming on we lost all power steering control to the vehicle. Speedometer was not functioning while attempting to move the vehicle out of the interaction into a nearby parking lot. Once safely parked in the parking lot we turned off the car and turned it back on again to the same messages/lights turning on. We regained power steering after we turned it off and back on but all other issues persisted. Called for a tow back to the dealership. Chrysler claimed it was a bad abs module. I am filing a safety complaint for poor electrical design if an abs module has the ability to bring down the entire computer system in the 2014 Cherokee this can pose a serious hazard to all vehicle operators.
