1 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while attempting to refuel the vehicle, the evap system had failed, causing the fuel nozzle to constantly shut off while fueling. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel system located inside the fuel tank was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in an extended warranty coverage related to the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.

2 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that refueling the vehicle took approximately 20 minutes to accomplish. The contact had to pump the fuel slowly, and it was difficult to fuel the vehicle to capacity. There was only one fuel pump that the contact could use in the town of his residence. The contact stated that fuel was spilling on the vehicle and the ground while refueling. There was an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on four occasions, where an unknown diagnostic was provided. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics who were unable to assist because the mechanics were not certified. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 161,334.

3 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the gas pump nozzle continuously shut off. The contact stated that he drove to several gas stations, where the failure recurred while refueling the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was running rough and would hesitate to respond while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where some of the fuel lines were replaced and the other fuel lines were blown out, and the charcoal canister was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where the fuel tank and the fuel neck were replaced; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2022

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while refueling, gasoline was spilling from the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the headlights exploded. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that the headlights needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently stall after refueling with the "shift vehicle into neutral" warning message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who discovered that raw fuel would enter the charcoal canister due to a defective liquid air separator located on top of the fuel tank. The contact was also informed that the separator could not be replaced separately, and the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure on two occasions and a complaint was filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after refueling and while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle sputtered and stalled without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle sputtered while driving but did not stall or shut-off. The contact researched the failure and became aware of an issue with gasoline fumes entering the vapor canister and causing a stall. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after filling the fuel tank, the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was restarted, and functionality returned. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repair. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
