1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2017

I was on the highway when my transmission light came on and the vehicle stopped accelerating. I had to pull over, put it in park, then back into drive to get it to move again. This happened numerous time until I could get it to a Jeep dealership north of atlanta georgia. When I finally got to the dealership, my son and I told them what was happening. They apparently knew immeditately that it was a computer malfunction. My vehicle needed approximately 7 updates to the computer!! my son and I could have been killed in the middle of city traffic on a highway because of a computer! I asked the service manager why I was never told this could happen and he said there is no way to tell and there is also no warning this will happen or if it may happen again. I am terrified of this car that I can not get rid of now! now I see that some other Cherokees can spontaneously accelerate and then go into park on its own? another computer issue? I hate this car now and it terrifies me to have my family in it. We got it to travel from FL to CT and now I will no longer take the chance with my family's lives.

2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced an unintended acceleration causing the speed to increase to approximately 70 mph before decreasing to 40 mph. The contact indicated the speed would not exceed over 40 mph and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a software update was performed to correct the failure. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,000. The VIN was not available.

3 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

I purchased a 2015 Cherokee sport in October 2014. Since then I have noted several reoccurring problems. Having never owned a brand new I thought perhaps there was some early mile growing pains but these problems persist. The screen malfunctions at will; sometime the rear camera is engaged when driving forward, the screen locks on the disclosure/acceptance page. Voice recognition/command has never worked. Unintended acceleration when at a complete stop (reminds me of an unruly dog on a leash trying to leap forward). Delayed acceleration when the gas pedal is depressed causing it to suddenly leap into motion risking hitting a car in front of you in city traffic (I live in los angeles – this is particularly concerning) or a wall behind you (I back into my parking space). When parallel parking or in a 3 point scenario (d-r-d) the car, although clearly placed in the reverse the car will roll forward before reversing. Often putting the car in reverse, waiting several seconds (4 to 5) before releasing the break will do the trick but just as often, it makes no difference. Gear transitions are sloppy. This car does not shift it lunges. I’m surprised the damn thing doesn’t bite although it tries. I thought these were my pet peeves but it appears I am not alone. I wish I had read these earlier complaints. I would have returned it to post haste. I hate this car but am not in the financial position to buy another. Purchased from a dealer 50 miles away (best price) has made it difficult to take into the dealership. I have finally scheduled 2-days off from work to take it in. I wish I was in the position to not just drop it off but leave it there. If I had the money I would not hesitate.

4 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who did not determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified but not solution was offered. The VIN was not available.
