Continually receiving a service shifter error message and all gear lights on the shifter light up (park reverse neutral drive). Happens while driving and requires that you stop and restart the car in order for it to go away. Jeep dealership has been unable to fix this after three attempts. At first we were told it was a software issue. Then they replaced the entire shifter. Today they replaced the throttle body. Continues to be an issue. Have read about many other cases online from other Jeep owners.
At multiple, seemingly random times, warning lights flash regarding transmission and other car functions, engine stops and temporarily won't restart. On restart transmission jumps hard. Software has been updated and dealer reports no recall on this vehicle. So far has just happened while stationary.
The vehicle has repeatedly come up with a "service shifter" message since I purchased it in Dec of 2015 new. The dealership replaced the shifter assembly, but the problem kept happening. They kept flashing the software and telling me it was fine. At the end of July 2018, I took my vehicle in for an oil change and to have the headlight researched because it had begun to flicker along with one of the two license plate lights. The dealership told me that the headlight and the lisence plate lights went out at the same time by coincidence. I tried to contact Jeep/Chrysler directly and explain there was a bigger problem but they wouldnt listen. Days later, I stopped for gas, shut off the car and filled the tank. When I got back in the car wouldnt start. I kept trying to turn it on but it wouldnt make a sound. Finally, after about 25 minutes the car turned on. Once on, error messages light up my dash: service shifter, service parking break, service engine, service transmission, and others. I tried to shift into gear but it shifted hard and sounded like the transmission was going to drop. The car wouldnt move. Towed the car to dewey Dodge. They flashed it, told me it was fine, and made me come get it and wouldnt look further. 24 hours later, I was stranded again, car wouldnt start. Towed it again. They told me it was the battery, even though they had previously told me they did a 27pt inspection and it was fine a day prior. . . They had my car for 2 months. Once I got it back, I had it for only a few days and I was stuck again. After about 30 minutes the car turned on, and I was able to try to drive home. While on highway, service shifter appeared again. Dewey replaces the wiring harness and the shifter again. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge a widespread issue even though multiple online forums have a collection of people detailing the same problems!.
Brake pedal that slings forward after releasing and making a slamming noise, plastic parts just falling off inside from under the dash, the trim falling off on the outside, the obvious transmission, the power liftgate releasing and refusing to close on its own, the display screen blinking and occasionally refusing to respond, the tire pressure gage indicating a warning of pressure to 51psi then seconds later changing to 31psi (this one occured after the latest software update), gps is unbelievably unreliable, uconnect takes control when not given permission, start/stop button does not work everytime. Shutting the vehicle off has been difficult. Alt feature does not work about half the time, battery has had to be replaced two times. The inside liner around the roof not attached, the left back wheel the trim is popped off. The vehicle refused to go when at a busy intersection 4 days ago and almost caused a collision. Gas pedal was pushed down for 5 seconds before it started to move.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the check transmission and service engine warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle decelerated to 45 mph. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (metro Jeep located at 650c memorial dr chicopee, MA 01020 877-220-8331) where it was diagnosed that an update was needed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 32118538. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 25,240.
On 06/04/16, at 12,600 miles, the Jeep failed completely on the freeway. We were driving 50 mph in heavy southern CA traffic when the ¿transmission service required¿ light and the red check engine light flashed on and we lost all power. This happened instantly and without any warning. We had to throw on the hazard lights and Dodge oncoming traffic to move over 3 lanes to exit the freeway at less than 5 mph. This was a terrifying experience and we are lucky the Jeep did not cause a major accident! the tustin Jeep dealership did a software update and said it was fine. Fca has remained adamant that the problem is not mechanical, but software related and have released 3 software patches to date but we see no improvement. One week later on 06/13/16 the transmission was still functioning poorly (hard shifts, up shifting as you apply the break downhill, etc. ) and then we had another problem. The alarm went off without warning and would not shut off, even when the Jeep¿s engine was turned on. Only after several minutes and pushing every button on the key multiple times did it finally stop. We took it to placentia Jeep and they looked into the transmission and alarm. After having our Jeep for a week, they did yet another software update for the transmission and disconnected the gps. They explained that the gps that was installed at the dealer after the fact was interfering with the factory installed alarm, and that caused the alarm to go off at random. This is a big problem because we were charged $1295 extra for that feature and it is now disconnected. The dealer also found that the battery power was below half, and they felt that the radio was pulling from the battery even when the Jeep is turned off. They found no resolution for this problem and asked us to return after a week or two to reassess the problems.
Third time same issue. 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While vehicle in motion service transmission, service park brake, malfunction indicator light, d(drive) flashing on dashboard, barely made it up a hill, had to press accelerator all the way to floor. Very dangerous-other vehicles do not know what is happening. Occured 2 times in 2weeks after software updated. Not many regrets in my life but buying this vehicle tops the list.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled while veering left. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle required a computer update. The computer was updated, but the failure recurred. A warning message appeared and the instrument panel dimmed. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had a pinched wire. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealer to be serviced for a customer satisfaction campaign for the transmission control module and power train control module software update. Approximately five months later, while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle accelerated independently and the rpms revved. The vehicle operated properly after the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was repaired five times; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The failure mileage was 20,500.
Purchased Jeep and have had safety issues with inconsistent shifting since day one. I have returned to the dealer 19 times for shifting issues and other complaints. At the present time I continue to have a "service shifter" light come on in the vehicle. The light comes on while the vehicle is in motion. You can try to reset the shifter to let the computer try to recognize the error, but it doesn't work. Technicians have told me not to drive with the light on as the car may shift in a different gear or even reverse. Chrylser star technicians keep resetting the software, however the light continues to come back on randomly. I have expressed my concerns and fears with the shifting, however they do not know what is causing the problem nor how to fix the issue so they continue to reset the computer. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle as I never know when the light will come on nor what it will do. Found error codes u146500 and p1c861d. Performed flash updates. Dates of issues: 6/29/15, 07/17/15, 09/06/15, 12/01/15. I also have problems with inconsistent shifting and take of. You can try to accelerate and the car will not go but the rpm's will rise. The car will suddenly take off after a 4-5 second delay. This has caused me great fear as sometimes you will go to turn and the car pauses before taking off. By the time it does take off you have turned in front of an oncoming car. Again Chrysler star technicians have told me I am "over sensitive" and the car functions as any 9 speed transmission is designed to do.
Transmission failed at 1,000 miles. Dealer replaced with a redesigned version. I started to get a wobble in the front end while I was accelerating. I brought it back and they said that it was a known issue and they were redesigning the front axles but the fix wasn't out yet. A few weeks later the metal frame in my sunroof broke and the weather stripping fell out and I couldn't close the shade. They informed me that the entire sunroof assembly had to be replaced because the frame was defective. The wobble continued to get worse and the car was shifting rougher than ever. I kept telling the dealership that there was something wrong, and they said "that's how the new 9 speed trans behave". When I brought the car in for the sunroof replacement I asked them to look at the wobble and trans again, and they informed me that the front axle was indeed bad. They put in the redesigned axles, and replaced the entire sunroof. I continue to have serious transmission issues and they put in a new valve body and updated the software. It's worse than ever. I kept complaining to Jeep and all they said was "the dealership can't replicate your problem. " I actually had the service manager in the car with me and he verified that the car does not drive properly- and when Jeep called me, they told me that I had to go to another dealership. This car is not safe. It hesitates when you step on the gas, then it jerks very hard into second gear, it will accelerate on it's own because it can't find a gear to downshift, and the engine will spontaneously rev on it's own if I am descending a hill and its trying to downshift. The car will leap forward and accelerate until I press the brake hard enough to slow it down and it will finally shift. The rpms will go up for several seconds after I've applied the brake. The vehicle also rolls several inches after I put it in park now.
My vehicle instantaneously picked up speed while I was coming to a stop; my foot was not on the gas pedal. A quick jerking motion of the steering wheel happened quickly with the acceleration. This caused me to press much harder on my brakes to stop my vehicle from hitting a car in front of me. This is a dangerous and very scary problem and I am grateful to not have caused harm to anyone. My gas consumption varies because of the required pedal pressure sometimes needed to accelerate since the gears seem not to switch over as they should. Also, my radio has been blacking out, turning off and on, and failing to work at all. Have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow for what was explained to me as a needed "software update. " this is a new truck. My Jeep has not yet made it to the required miles for its first oil change. (sigh).
I have owned this 2015 Jeep Cherokee since December 2014. The transmission had to be replaced @ 1890 miles, car stopped dead trying to pass a truck on steep grade, overheated transmission. The power brake master booster had to be replaced twice, @ 2490 miles and 4920 miles, no brakes just crash into nearest curb or car, part and system failure. The transmission mounts had to be replaced @ 2560 miles, car howling like a banchee, parts failure. The software had to be changed 3 times, "trying to solve factory problem". Warning lights for check engine and battery came on and car shuttered and came to abrupt stop, in the middle of a dangerous curve, with all system shut down completely @ 4970 miles, currently investigating cause. The car has been with the dealer, in total, more than 45 days, currently at dealer again. This car has left me in life threatening situations 4 times. It appears that when any preprogramed limits are reached, all systems shut down, brakes, steering, everything. You are left totally defenseless and not able to control the vehicle. The Jeep has no emergency brake! this is the most unreliable and dangerous vehicle I have ever driven. I have been totally stranded away from home twice, and have yet to recover over $1000. 00 in out of pocket expense, transportation, hotel, food, and cabs. The dealer closed at 2pm on a Saturday, 280 miles from home, said good by and told me to contact Chrysler for assistance, " it wasn't his responsibility". All 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee should be recalled and taken off the road. This poorly conceived and engineered vehicle is dangerous and will kill many people, if it already has not. The Chrysler corporation and its dealers are knowingly selling a faulty and dangerous vehicle to the public.
Have had two times the vehicle transmission warning came on to "service transmission" with no response from depressing the accelerator. At these two times the vehicle was at a full stop and the dash was full of warning lights for different things. When the transmission was shifted from drive to park, there was a loud and violent jerking by the transmission. This transmission has had it's software updated many times, which has not helped. Dealer tech was able to observe this condition and replaced the transmission valve body. After replacing the valve body and after driving about 50 miles on a interstate highway, the service transmission warning came on. Took the next exit and stopped at a traffic stoplight, the car would lunge and jerk violently trying to go. Shut the engine off and let the car reset itself. Will not drive the vehicle again and will ask Chrysler to supply a rental vehicle at their expense until they have replaced my vehicle. This makes three times the vehicle has been in the shop for transmission problems. This transmission issue as far I am concerned is a major safety issue.
