36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2012

I was driving down a neighborhood street and re-adjusted my seating position. While driving, my knee slightly bumped the key and turned off my car while it was in drive. I then lost power steering and power breaks. Luckily I was moving slowly and could pull over and stop the car. I then tested it again in a parking lot and I determined that my Jeep shuts off every time I move the key with my knee, even while driving. Potentially very dangerous.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander 4x2. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact applied the brake pedal twice before a response occurred and the vehicle began to reduce speed. The failure occurred spontaneously. In addition, the engine would stall without warning. The vehicle was currently being diagnosed by an authorized dealer. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 08v203000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module, tcm, pcm). The contact was uncertain whether the VIN was included in the recall defect and planned to notify the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2011

While driving, the instrument panel began flashing all the warning lights several times for a period of 5 minutes. The warning lights that stayed on afterwards: traction control and electronic stability program and bsp. This could have caused a crash because I was distracted by the malfunction.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2011

While driving, I have a total loss of interior electrical. All systems go off although the vehicle continues running. This affects the steering as well as braking. There is nothing consistent about the problem. It has been taken to multiple dealers and they can find no issue. I've even taken in a video recording of the situation.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

The recirculation assembly on my 2006 Jeep Commander keeps on braking. I have had it replaced two times within the last 6 months, and this morning, I went to turn on the heat, and I heard it snap again. When it brakes, air comes into the cabin of the car no matter what the position of your a/c or heat controls. Even if you have them off, air still comes in since the recirculation door is broken. I cannot be the only one experiencing this issue.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2009

Problems began 1 day after Commander went in to dealer for the regular 3,000mile oil change, that car was returned to me after that oil change, as 'good to go'; w/in 24 hours of that oil change, the Commander would not start and required a new starter (30k miles). After the starter was replaced, the Commander was stalling if - in the middle of a slight incline it had to brake and then resume - at the resume it would stall. Also, after starter replaced dashboard lights blinking; transmission cooler lines leaking, power steering line from pump to cooler leaking, and front and back brake rotors had to be replaced (42k miles) 60k miles, the cruise control turns on by itself and the rear park assist turns off by itself; the water leak into front passenger well. Speaking with custom relations at Chrysler corporate regarding cruise control, rear assist and water leak problems they told me that they were not aware of these being a problem for most Commander customers; however, Chrysler Jeep is aware of these problems as evidenced by the technical service bulletins published on them yet Chrysler Jeep does not issue a recall/take fiscal responsibility for their manufacturer defects. More: Chrysler Jeep expects me to pay them to diagnose the problems so that then so long as I have paid a dealer to repair them they will consider (not necessarily approve; in the past they have in fact denied me reimbusement to fix these problems for which they have technical service bulletins on) refunding me total or partial cost of repairs. More: I was only informed of a safety recall regarding ebc module (brake) when I called in last week (12/2011) regarding the water leak & cruise control problem. Making this more poignant, the reason for this recall - that I was not notified about when it was first issued- is a brake issue that I had detailed to Chrysler Jeep in 2009!.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated there was an abnormal squeal coming from the brakes when depressed. The failure would occur whenever the vehicle was operated yet more noticeable once the vehicle was driven several miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times and the dealer applied an unknown chemical to the brakes but to no avail. The contact previously had new brake parts installed but it did not remedy the failure. The manufacturer advised someone would contact her in regards to the failure. The contact was awaiting a return call. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000 and the current mileage was approximately 64,000.

Additionally, the rear seat belt has let go and caused my son to hit his face on the back seat. Problems with seat belt latch sliding so that belt will not hook. Cannot see when backing up when my 5 kids are in the car. Tire pressure light comes on often, as does the air bag light. Exterior headlights are tilted so that they look like highbeams. This car is a danger.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2007

We own a 2006 Jeep Commander that has been a problem from the first month we owned it. The first incident occurred when my wife and 3 children were driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off at 65 mph. The vehicle has consistently experienced the same challenge at low and high speeds. In addition, we have experienced similar issues as other owners such as; transmission noises and slippage, electrical system failures, excessive break noise, break wear, excessive cracking in windshield, seatbelt failure, window leaks, stereo replacement and more! in the last 9 months this vehicle has been to the dealer for repair more than 6 times for similar issues. The dealer, as with other customers has claimed they "can't replicate the problem. . . " and sent us on our way. I have now embarked upon having the vehicle bought back by the manufacturer and will also begin a formal legal case to ensure other owners receive retribution. This car is dangerous and the manufacturer is aware of these problems, you are not crazy and the dealers are covering it up!.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2007

Stepped on my brake and the car did not stop until I re-applied my brake.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2006

It started out that the car was acting up, every warning light was illuminated, the speedometer and tachometer were going all over the place (like they were bouncing). We took it in to the dealer and they said we would have to bring the car back in when it was still doing this, because they plugged it in to the computer and couldn't find anything wrong. So to the dismay of my wife we took the car back even though they couldn't find anything wrong with it. About a week later my wife was pulling into the mall (on the 29th of Dec. ), it was extremely busy, so the mall had flagmen out directing traffic. She was on a downhill ramp waiting for the flagmen to let her go. As she was sitting there stopped the instrument panel started going nuts again. At that moment her foot, which was on the brake went straight to the floor, she had lost all brake pressure in the pedal. As she was pumping the brakes she had to honk and wave to the flagmen that she couldn't stop and to move. She had traveled about a 100 feet and finally came to a stop when the car hit the one that was further downhill from her. We call reuther Jeep and told them what had happened and they said to tow the car to their shop and they would give us a rental car. They told me to contact Chrysler and have them do an investigation. They did they investigation (without driving the car) plugged it into the computer, and later told me that there was no problem with the car, and we should contact our insurance company. No other explanation was given. I did some searching online and found numerous instances where this seems to be a problem and falls in line with the recall that Chrysler had recently done on the 64000+ cars. I don't want this car back, I don't feel it is safe and I fear for my wife and kids that are always in this car. We leased the vehicle I don't see why they should be able to make this right. I just want a safe vehicle for my wife and kids.
