36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2015

Our Jeep was parked in the driveway when we noticed flames and smoke coming out from under the driver's side dash. The Jeep was completely engulfed in flames in 5 minutes.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2015

After 6 hours of car resting (overnight) it would not start. The engine will not crank and will give the tranmission over temp indication. The battery dcv is 12. 30 plently for an start. Whre I live there is no snow nor the outside temp was hot ( the incident happened early morning with a cool outside temp of 76 degree f). After couple attempts it crank and start where the alternator charge the battery maintaining a dcv 14 plus. After one minute of idling I turn it off and try again, where it give the same error. Making the vehicle unreliable on the street.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

The vehicle changes gears erratically sometimes downshifting to a low gear causing lurching and a great change of speed then warning lights and "service 4 wheel drive system" prompt appeared.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

Engine light goes on. Feels like car will stall or is shifting gears. Code from mechanic is 507 idle speed, performance, higher then expect.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

My 2007 Jeep Commander caught on fire while parked for a couple hrs. Fire investigator said it originated in the electrical wiring in the headliner. Jeep sent out an investigator and stated no manufacturer defect, prior to incident, all lights, dashboard, headlights would shut off. Taken to dealer and something with computer was reset. But continued a few times after.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2014

The check engine light came on after the engine stalled out several times in a row. I had it tested, and they said it was an idle air control valve. The idle air control valve does not exist on this vehicle, but yet its the only code that it is giving off. I'm still having stalling issues which are dangerous when pulling out of intersections. Another issue that is ongoing that I'm having, is the sunroof leaking. I have literally 2 gallons of water that will be on my floor board when it rains. You can hear water sloshing above your head before it hits the wiring in the door panels and then collects on the floor boards.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

There is a recall for my Jeep, yet there is no fix. I drive many miles each day, and I was never notified that there was a recall. What if my car shuts off while driing on the highway? what if I get in a wreck? how can Jeep issue a recall and take over a year, then still not have a fix? what if my Jeep wrecks and I or someone loses their life?.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

Was getting into truck turn on ignition and put truck in gear, then proceeded to takeoff then all of a sudden the ignition just cut off, I don't know if my knee slightly hit it or what but that sucker cut off, this has happened more than once, also the tire light stays before the dealer said it was a faulty stem, then I had it replaced and it still stays on, so please is there some resolution for these things!.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

In the summer of 2014, I was reversing and my 2007 Jeep Commander turned off twice. It has been happening more frequently since then. My Jeep turns off while driving up to 30 miles an hour, and while stopped at a light, and/or a stop sign. The check engine light sometimes turns on, but not always when Jeep turns off. Sometimes it makes a 'huffing puffing' noise like it's struggling to stay on (before it actually turns off). It always turns on right after, but I have noticed it makes a loud squeaky sound when it turns on after I crank it. That squeaky sound, sounds like the sound it makes when someone tries to crank on the vehicle after vehicle is already been on. The Chrysler recall center mailed me a recall p41 notice last summer/fall in 2014. I took it to the Chrysler Jeep dealership in mcallen, texas for recall p41 service at that time. I've taken my Jeep to several mechanics since then, but no one seems to find the problem. The servicemen at dealership said to keep checking in with them to see if they have the part. They said problem is not related to recall p41. . . And keep advising me of other possible problems. I've fixed all of the possible problems suggested, and yet the 'turning off' still continues! the service manager at dealership, and the Chrysler recall center people keep telling me that Chrysler has not made part available, and for me to remove any extra keys from the key ring, and to continue driving me Jeep until the part is available. Chrysler will then mail me notice of recall part availability. I've been dealing with this problem for over a year! it is very scary, especially when it happens unexpectedly in an unreliable vehicle!! I don't feel safe.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2014

When you try to start, it would turn over and click, but not start. After about 10 times, it would finally start. My mechanic checked the battery ( which was about 3 months old) and it was good. He changed the started and still had the same problem. Put in another starter, assuming the part was bad. Still had same problem. Just replaced the ignition switch. Car started this morning at his shop, but would not start until I attempted to start it about 10 times and it finally started. An intermittent starting problem.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

Transmission over temp. Car starts no problem. Some smoke from under vehicle.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

Door lock actuator failed on driver's side front door. Door now makes a duck call/ buzz everytime it locks. Upon research this is a common problem with Commanders and a recall should be required to fix this issue.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

2nd car own 2007 Jeep Commander has gone out of control while driving, turning off while driving or at a stop. Recalls on file with same history but does not include either second VIN number. Dealer services state nothing wrong with my car and have no explanation of incidents that accurs. And demands to pick up my cars.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

Slowing down for stopping or making a turn the engine stops; the car dies. It has been restarting so far. I am afraid I am going to be killed and/or cause others to be killed. I have had the car checked out and they say everything checks out as ok. This cost me over $300. They changed the spark plugs but warned me this was not addressing the problem I was having. Sure enough it is still dying on me. Please help me. What is the difference in a drunk driver who knows before he takes that drink that he may kill someone and an auto dealer who ignore a problem and kills someone? I need to know what the issue is so I can get this repaired.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

While driving the vehicle under normal conditions on the on-ramp to the highway, the vehicle stalled and lost power. I was not able to restart vehicle in neutral, once it rolled to a stop, and it was placed in drive, the vehicle was able to start. Approximately two miles on the highway, driving approximately 60 miles an hour, the vehicle shut down again. It restarted once it came to a complete stop and I was able to put it in drive.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

I have a 2007 Jeep Commander with a chronic stalling problem. Within just a couple months of buying this used vehicle, it stalled for the first time on the new york thruway going 70 mph. Since then, the vehicle chronically and randomly will stall. I have had it stall as much as 7 times in the space of going 12 miles! it will stall on the highway at 70 mph; or stopped at a stop sign; virtually anywhere anytime! this is extremely dangerous. Recently, I had it stall on the highway; I got it restarted and drove to my exit. At the end of the exit ramp when the light turned green, I proceeded to attempt to cross a busy intersection and it died again!!! I can't trust this vehicle and am afraid to drive it much. We have taken it to the local Jeep dealership many times without successfully fixing the problem. Most recently, we left the Commander at the dealership for a week and they thought they had it fixed so we picked it up and in just over 1 day it stalled again. I work only 6 miles from home and can't make it home from work without it stalling. We have put thousands . . . And thousands of dollars in repairs replacing sensors (including map), exhaust pipe with catalytic converters, ignition system, . . . And the list goes on. Looking on the internet, there are many websites and many complaints by other 2007 Jeep Commander owners for my same stalling problem. The 2006 Jeep Commander has had recalls for stalling . . . And this vehicle (2007 Commander) should be recalled and fixed. I cannot stress strongly enough how hazardous this vehicle is. Would you place your life . . . Your loved ones lives . . . In a vehicle that chronically stalls anytime and anywhere without warning?? think about it! I am just looking for Jeep to fix the problem their design has caused in this vehicle.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

Since sept. 2012 I have been having problems with my vehicle not starting and the dashboard message is "transmission over heat" or "transmission temp over heat". It will not start at all. This past Sunday it started but it would cut off like it was out of gas but there was a more than half full. I had to get towed for the 2nd time in a week and for the 5th time since 2012. No one seems to be able to find the problem and fix it permanently so this problem doesn't happen again. I am a disabled woman and can't afford to be stranded every time I get in my vehicle and have to sit and wait for a tow for over an hour. I also have to keep paying for repairs that haven't been working so that's draining me. Is there a reason for this problem and if someone has the answer please let me know so I can get this fixed once and for all. I have never had a problem like this with any vehicle I've ever had before.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Stalls out while waiting at red lights stalls out on the highway for no reason and misfires multiple times through the drive daily.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

While coasting at approx 40mph, vehicle shuts down, no dashboard lights, while rolling I shift into neutral and am able to re-start vehicle. Currently at dealer. They can't find problem, no codes. On Jeep forums this is sadly a popular topic.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

I was beginning to accelerate out of a right turn and noticed that I was not picking up speed and the car started to shake. I tried to speed up to the flow of traffic and the accelerator was not working and the steering wheel kept shaking and had to pull over to the side of the road. I noticed that all the gears on the dash were lit up, from park to drive and everything in between. I decided to shut off the engine and start it again. The car was fine but did it again on 2 separate occasions. Thank goodness I was not on the freeway and there was not a lot of traffic.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

While driving down the street at approximately 25 miles an hour, the vehicle stalled it was towed to my home because it would not restart at the time. We had a mechanic do a spot check for blown fuses and battery/alternator issues, but no issue was found. The vehicle restarted the next morning.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

The car turns off at bumps, or the slightest touch of the ignition switch. It is very dangerous and has caused me to run off the road many times. I have contacted several dealerships over the years and no one will fix it. They say there is no fix. I feel my life is in danger. If the car just turns off at the wrong time, it will kill me and others. Why will no one repair this? find me a dealership that has the f'ing part before someone dies!!!!!.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

Vehicle would not start. Message on dash states "transmission over temp".

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2012

I'm driving a vehicle that should have been recalled along with other vins of it's make. It has stalling issues. It dies going any speed at any time. I've owned it for just over a year and have had the same problem since month one. Thousands of dollars in parts including, all sensors, computer, control module and wire harness has been replaced and it is still going on. We have had several crysler reps from detroit down to the dealership its at to look to help find the problem but they've scratched their heads and suggest we just trade it in. We are the 4th owners of this and carfax would suggest that's what the previous owners were told to do just trade it in and let someone else get the death trap. I pay $600 a month for a vehicle I cant drive because its not safe to trade in and letting it go is not an option. Crysler is doing nothing to help with this issue and act like they have never had this problem tho Jeep forums would suggest other wise. This was a know issue in 06-08 Commanders and libertys as well. Warranty wont do anything til the dealership can pin point what needs to be replaced and this is why allen samuels has paid for all the parts themselves. They say their out of options theres nothing else they can do but I can't drive an unsafe vehicle with children.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2011

I own a 2007 Jeep Commander and now it will shift in low speed mode while traveling at highway speeds. I have the dealer rest it and it did it again while coming home. The replacement of this module is 1000 dollars and with only 104k miles I feel that for safety and reliability this should is on recall. This Jeep is only 4 yrs old and to earily for this type of propblem.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Since owner my Jeep Commander, it has been in for repair for electrical and leaking problems. It has been in for repair for the heat/ac controls at least 3 times and now for the 2nd time because of the leaking sunroof, the power windows don't work anymore. It has been in a few times because while driving the windows go up and down, the alarm goes off and the bell chimes telling me the rear hatch is open all at the same time like the car is possessed. I'm sure there is more but cant recall all of them at this time. It is becoming a big problem. I think Jeep Commanders should be recalled since so many are having the same issues!!! it is a liitle scary not being able to open the windows. What if something happens and you need to get out? I will now have to spend another few hundred for repairs. Just not right.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

We were on interstate 57 going 65 mph when all of a sudden the Jeep jerked like it was down shifting and just shut off. We had a semi behind us which almost hit us but we were able to coast onto the side of the sidw of the road. We then turned the key off and then restarted the car and it started okay but the engine light was on. The engine light finally went off by itself. Since then when driving the Jeep jerks and acts like it down shifting and the rpms goes way up. We are afraid to drive it on a highway because shutting off like that on the interstate could cause a serious accident. I am reading several complaints from others who own 2007 Jeep comanders so there has to be something faulty! this could cause a serious accident!!! we just purchased this from a dealer a month ago for our 16 year old twins. Thank god they were not driving it when that happened.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2010

Sunroof/windows leak and cause water to flood into the passenger side floor area. Up to an inch of standing water accumulates in passenger floor area during periods of heavy rain.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

Drain tubes leak into vehicle thru upper hand grab and under dash due to routing of tubes. . . They clog very easy and vehicle owners cannot see them or have knowledge of them until a heavy rain leaves the car flooded. Most likely eroding wires under dash and causing mold in carpet.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2007

We purchased a 2007 Jeep Commander on Feb. 10. It has 2,000 miles on it. Last week, the engine "threw a rod" through the side of the engine requiring a new engine to be installed. It was the result of road rainwater being taken into the engine through the air intake. I am having to file a claim with my insurance company to replace the engine. The water on ther road was minimal. I continue to see Jeep advertisements on television showing the Jeep Commander driving thru water. . . The consumer needs to be aware that the vehicle cannot be driven thru water. . .
