1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2022

Unknown. While my vehicle is set on cruise control and the weather is over 50 degrees or the air is running my cruise control will shut off. Warning lights abs, esp bas, & stability control will come on, then my cruise control won’t work anymore. Now just this morning going up a hill my car wouldn’t go pass 20 mph while my foot was to the floor basically. Then almost to the top of the hill it took off. The rmps went high Jeep shifted to next gear. Of course took my foot off petal and pushed brakes slightly. As slowing down it started shifting hard with high rmps still. I have done a new tune up and new transmission within the last 6 months. Before the new transmutation it was still doing this. The reason to replace the transmission was my Jeep just stopped completely moving. I don’t have the money to keep taking my Jeep back to the dealership for them to keep telling me they don’t know the problem. If nothing gets done about this sadly I will have to get rid of it. The cruise accrues when I’m on the highway going 60 to 65 mps. The shifting problem happen in town. Which both issues could cause a serious car wreck and harm to others and my self.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2017

Vehicle completely shut down on freeway due to recall causing anxiety, fear of life and potential accident on major highway. The ignition switch on your vehicle may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. This may result in a loss of engine power, power steering assist, power brake assist or disable the airbag function. Disabling one or more of the vehicle's safety features could increase the risk of vehicle occupant injury during a crash and/or cause a crash without warning.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2017

My vehicle would no longer accelerate in traffic causing me to almost get hit in the rear of the vehicle. I could do nothing but coast and brake. All gears became highlighted which were not previously. I am worried if this continues to happen I will be in an accident. This seems to be a common encounter among Jeep owners but there is no recall.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2016

For a number of years now I intermittently receive a "transmission over temp" message in my dash and the car won't start for about 24 hours later. This usually happens after a good rain. I will drive to somewhere and then park for about 10 minutes. When I try to start the vehicle, it doesn't start until about 24 hours later. I replaced the battery and still have the same issue. Auto shops were not able to fix this issue and no one seems to have a clue how to fix this. Right now the vehicle is unreliable as if I go somewhere there is a risk that I will be stranded.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired according to a recall for the final drive module, which was reprogrammed and re-flashed. After the repair and driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle would downshift without warning, which caused the final drive module to overheat. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the final drive module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case regarding the failure; however, a decision of the repair was not finalized. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

It is the second time this happens to us when on a highway. The first time my husband was driving and we have our child with us. We thought it was a part of the latest recall we received in the mail regarding the key ignition. This time I was driving on a highway, going about 60-65 mph when the engine light came on, I starting losing power, tachometer starting going down and the accelerator pedal was completely unresponsive and significantly hard to push down on it, the speed continued to go down as I was trying to get to the shoulder as fast as I could but with an unresponsive engine it was very difficult. It was also difficult to move the steering wheel as this got harden. I managed to pull over on the shoulder and had to turn the engine off. After waiting 10-15 minutes, I turned the engine back on and was able to get to my destination which was not far from where I had to pull over. The engine light is still on and I'm afraid this would happen again next time I drive my vehicle which is every day. This was not a pleasant experience at all and it is very frightening when you are on a highway and all of the sudden have no control of your vehicle, it is definitely not safe at all. This Jeep has gone through all the recalls that I have gotten in the mail.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2015

While in motion on an interstate, going about 70 mph the vehicle began to decelerate. The electrical warning panel flickered. When the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle would only go 30 mph with accelerator pedal depressed completely. Needing to get off of interstate, the vehicle continued to only go 30 mph on a city street. Occasionally, the vehicle would shake, jerk, and the electrical warning panel would flicker. Transmission over temp warning light then came on. Took vehicle to a transmission repair shop. Unable to put vehicle in reverse, vehicle will not respond. Waiting to be inspected to determine the problem.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the theft mode warning light illuminated and the vehicle failed to start. In addition, the engine rpm¿s and the speedometer gauges were fluctuating when driving. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Djr.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2014

I was traveling with the crose control engaged and I disengaged to work around some slower cars. When I re engaged the speed control it caused the vehicle to shift down to lower gears and sped ahead to around 80 mph before I was able to disengage it. Has there been a recall for this problem?.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2014

This has happened repeatedly since purchasing vehicle in sept 2015. At highway speeds the vehicle either; a) lurches all electronics die and then quickly comes back to power, or b) the vehicle stalls. The vehicle has been to dealer for repair 4 times and service does not fix.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

2007 Jeep Commander (purchased used in the fall of 2012): as I was pulling out of a parking lot, the car abruptly sped up, causing me to lose control. I crashed into an utility pole directly across from the parking lot exit as a result. The car is now totaled and the utility pole was damaged (leaning over). I traveled approximately 26 feet, at a speed high enough to create that amount of damage. As someone who has driven professionally for many years, this was unnerving and unusual. Also, around 3 months ago the same situation happened while driving down the road. I was following a car going 45 mph, and my Commander suddenly sped up, causing me to apply the brake to slow down. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now I am wondering if there is/was a problem with the vehicle.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

I am 74 years of age and at the time of my husband's death four years ago purchased a 2007 Chrysler Jeep Commander which now has 53,815 miles. I began experiencing problems with unexpected complete loss of power on both interstate highways and residential streets over the last year. These occurrences have increased in frequency at varying times when driving within the last six months, and most terrifying on the interstate where I was faced with the realization of deceleration and cutoff at the speed limit of 55 mph. I received a safety recall notice (p41/nhtsa14v-38), round or about April 2, 2015 from Chrysler group llc informing me of the vehicular problems described I am experiencing, Chrysler group's recall notice makes a clear and specific representation that repairs would performed to correct the vehicle's defects free of charge when it is returned to the dealership. Accordingly, southfield Chrysler was contacted to schedule an appointment to diagnose the problem and ordered parts on or about April 6, 2015. I have been waiting for the part(s) for nearly three weeks. On on April 24, 2015 I again contacted southfield Chrysler after the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and was informed the manufacturer: "Chrysler either will not, or has not, sent the parts need to fix the problem," contrary to the language of the notice. Southfield Chrysler will not perform repairs without payment for the parts. Southfield Chrysler has taken the position: "if I pay for repairs the manufacturer will reimburse me," which continues to leave me subjected to injure and/or death. I do not have the available funds to pay for repairs, relative to living on a fixed income and specific and very limited budget. It is clear to me that the manufacture and dealership will not perform responsibly to address a serious life and death that they are clearly aware exist. A complaint is proper.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

The car turn off are stall while driving. Normally occurs when foot is slight on the peddle however also attempts to stall at high speeds. A review of the internet shows that this life threatening problem is a frequent experience and a long term reported problem. I am happy to provide this information upon request. Does there need to be a lose of life to obtain relief of this issue. Is this issue a result of demands by the epa to have these cars run at an ideal speed that is too low? is the epa also the reason for this problem? lives are at risk with no action being taken to protect consumers.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, all of the dashboard lights simultaneously illuminated. The vehicle then accelerated and decelerated independently. The vehicle was taken for diagnosis and the contact was advised that the shift gear box would need replacing. The gear box was replaced however, the failure later recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer ut he was unable to diagnose the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2013

On two separate occurrences so far, the Jeep has randomly stalled out at highway speeds in traffic. Accelerator and steering loose function. Other times it has nearly stalled but regained operation. Check engine light comes on with code for large vacuum leak? dealer was unable to find anything wrong and is currently evaluating again. Vehicle starts back up fine after pulling to side of road and removing and reinserting key. Safety issue to stall at highway speeds and lose power steering! this does not appear to be the first occurrence as there are many other complaints and a recall/investigation which noted it in 2007 vehicles but only issued a pcm recall for 2006 vehicles.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2013

The vehicle engine shut down suddenly while driving on the interstate. I was able to turn on the hazard lights and coast through traffic to the shoulder of the road. Upon investigation I noticed that the ignition switch had turned off which led to a hazardous situation.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

I was making a left hand turn on to a busy road and the vehicle would not accelerate - there was no response to the gas pedal regardless of how far I pushed it. The vehicle would not go above 40mph, nor was there any increase in rpms. I tried shifting to neutral and the engine revved and the rpms responded to the gas pedal. When I shifted back to drive there was no response once again. I managed to make it home at 40 mph. The vehicle has done this periodically and shows no service engine code. I also have had the problem where the lights on dash show [p][r][n][d] and the Jeep appears to go into a "limp" mode with no response. . . This happens while driving - usually shifting to neutral and back to park corrects the situation. I am very concerned that this is a safety issue. I have two children and I transport them in this vehicle. No can figure out the problem although you can read for days about it on the internet!!! very frustrating and don't want to see someone get hurt or killed before action is taken!!!!.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2013

This has happened to me several times in the two years I've owned this vehicle. Every time I take it to the shop the mechanics say they cannot replicate the issue so cannot fix it. First the check engine light will come on and no codes will appear when run. A couple days later (mostly when driving on the highway, or any speed above 30mph) I will be driving as usual and begin to increase speed on the on ramp for the interstate and the engine will tap out at 45mph. I will press the gas pedal to the floor and the engine will not rev and the rpm's will not increase. I tried to put the car in neutral and back into drive and nothing changed with the engine. All the while I had my one year old child in the car with me. Every time I try to research what is wrong with my Jeep I just see the same complaint from thousands of people. This is obviously an issue and needs to be fixed immediately! I don't care if they have to give me a new Jeep I need something safe for my family!.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

When shifting out of park, Jeep will shift hard and lights around prnd are illuminated and error message "service park assist system" is displayed. When this happens, you have to put car back in park and turn it to the off position to reset. Sometimes this clears it,sometimes it doesn't. After about 4 times in a row, the check engine light comes on and stays on for days at a time. This issue also happens when the car is in drive and you are actually driving down the road. It has caused me to be rear ended once and almost rear ended many more times. Luckily when I was rear ended, we were in a parking lot and only traveling at a slow speed so there was no damage/injuries. This is beginning to happen on a daily basis and it is only a matter of time before someone is killed due to Jeep's denial there is a problem and refusal to fix the issue. I have taken my car into the dealer multiple times but they are unable to recreate the issue and therefore say there is no problem. An auto parts store was able to pull a code one time (u0404) but couldn't determine the meaning behind the code and couldn't tell me what to do to fix the problem. I have found through a prior google search that this issue has been reported before and that a prior recall was issued for this problem. Of course, my car and apparently everyone else's weren't part of the recall and are therefore still not repaired considering the part to fix the problem costs around $1,000 before labor charges! I hope someone can force Jeep to fix these vehicles before someone loses their life because of it!.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2012

I was driving home from picking up my daughter from a school event when suddenly my car slowed down on its own down to 10 mph. Then the car completely stopped. On the control console it only read "service park assist" and the drive position controls where all highlighted and boxed out (drnp). I lost all control of the vehicle other than turning the wheel. I tried to accelerate by pressing the gas and it just revved the engine and did nothing else. I swerved off the road and hit a median that took out the tire and left damage to the left of the car under carriage. I had to shift the gear into park and back to drive in order for the car to start up again. I took the car to a local Jeep Chrysler Dodge service depot and had it ran for a diagnostic for at which time they told me that it was a common issue found in this model and earlier models and that it wasn't covered by the power train that the vehicle would need $1100. 00 in repairs to fix an electronic transformer shift modulator. I had just purchased the car on October 31 from a Jeep Chrysler Dodge dealership and less than three weeks later the car is for crap. And the dealership refused to fix the problem and Jeep has not issued a recall for this issue but they have for the 2006 model. This problem is life threatening. It can occur at anytime at any speed. If I were on a expressway my children and I would probably be dead. Jeep needs to be pursed for this issue and forced to fix the damage on any vehicles reporting this issue.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

This has happened to me. I am a mother, wife , daughter. The bad thing of this situation is that I had this replaced once before I had 31,505 miles on it and the ems electric transmission shift module had to be replaced . 4 yrs later millage at 82,000 miles the same part has to be replaced. I have contacted Chrysler and all they can say we are sorry there is nothing I can do for you. This part is no longer under warranty and informed that the part (68021352) was not included in a recall. This malfunctions has caused me to no longer feel safe in my car. I don't want to drive my car with my daughter in it. With out warning this has happened one to many times. This part should be recalled when I had the vehicle serviced back in 2008 I paid 100. 00 now today when I had it repaired it cost 1000. 00. Funny isnt it that over 4 yrs this part has doubled in price. And the mechanic at Chrysler says to me OH yeah ive seen this alot on this model.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

I was driving on the highway with my son going around 65 miles per hour. When all of a sudden my truck Jeep comm, started slowing down, and all the other cars were passing by me speeding and blowing at my. I pulled over and restarted the car and now the engine light came on and the truck wont go pass 40 miles an hour. I have a warranty but the dealer is always trying to get out of paying it.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2012

Vehicle appeared to hesitate and eventually stalled loosing power. All instrumentation lights came on during this event. Driver was able to coast to the side of the highway; place the car in park/neutral; and restart the engine. The same event has happened at least 4 other times since the first at varying speed (I. E. 35 to 65 mph) and there were no warning lights making this a very dangerous and unpredictable event. I took the vehicle to an authorized dealer and he stated that it could be the power control module; but was unsure. I'm very concerned with the safety of my family. The symptom of this problem (engine stall) is unpredictable and is a recipe for a serious and life threatening accident. I've reviewed hundreds of complaints reporting similar conditions. There needs to be a global recall on all 2007 Jeep Commanders reporting this problem to have this issues repaired before there is a loss of life resulting from this event. Nhtsb please respond to this complaint and compel Chrysler to issue a recall before it is too late and life threatening injury occurs.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

Accelerated from stop light and vehicle stalled and would not accelerate.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2012

Purchased the 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4 2 weeks ago. When I started the Jeep the service park assist flashed and went away, I headed down my driveway onto the highway and could not accelerate more than 20 miles per hour, the Jeep would not shift gears. I pulled to the side of the road for safety because of traffic, turned the Jeep off, started it again and merged back onto the highway and the Jeep again could not go more than 20 mph, put on hazards and brought to mechanic. Left the Jeep running, got back into to reverse and the it would not reverse, at this time the prnd was lit up on the dash board. Still waiting to here what the problem is mechanic can not duplicate. Very serious safety problem as I use to transport my children.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2012

I have had several problems with the 2007 Jeep Commander. At times it will not start. Recently it has lost power/speed when accelerating. I was merging onto the highway and it suddenly lost power and would not go above 20mph. The engine had a strange noise to it. I have had it "fixed" multiple times but nothing seems to stop the problems. It is the worst car I have ever owned.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

I was pulling out onto the highway. As I got up to around 15 mph, all the shift indicator lights lit up ,around park, neutral, drive and reverse. My acceleration cut off. I couldn't accelerate past, maybe, 20 mph. The rpms would go up, with no response from the vehicle. I had cars coming up fast behind me and I couldn't go any faster or pull off, till the next turn off. Also, if I'm pulling out, from a stop, sometimes I just lose power and my car crawls on to the road, especially if on a incline. It's really scary and dangerous.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

Doesn't acclerate sometimes. " service park assist system " appears on the panel. I've had the oxygen sensor replaces and still have the same problems from time to time. I pull into traffic and it won't go. This could very well do harm to my family in the vehicle. I'm worried!.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Rght after purchasing this car in 10/2011 the Jeep would randomly cut off or lose power, not sure if this an electrical issue. Due to the randomness of the issue, they could not duplicate the problem when I brought in the car. After going back to the dealership the manger at the time wrote/promised that his establishment (reliable auto) would repair/fix the issue if it occured again (within a year or 12,000 miles). After a years time the issue still continued, but now I cannot bring it in to be fixed w/out being charged. Whenever I pushed down on the pedal to accelerate , the car could not accelerate past 25- 30 mph! this would occur while I was already in motion, or at a light. Felt like the car was, "stalling" and the service park assist messge would apper. I would try to shift the gear but nothing changed, the car still would not accelerate. This happened on multiple occasions. Sometimes the next day the car would drive just fine, other times the problem, "fixed itself" within a few days. Every time I took the car in they had a difficult time duplicating the problem. My check engine light would also illuminate but when checked no codes could be found. Super frustrating and scary to deal w/ this. In July/Aug 2013 the problem got worse when I was involved in an automobile accident. Took the Commander to Chrysler/Jeep and they were able to identify an electrical/shiftmodule problem. One of the reps. At Jeep told me this been common w/ Jeep Commanders. Before I had the Commander, I owned a 2005 Jeep grand cherokee, purchased brand new in 2005. Great car but had some electrical issues, when on, my headlights would randomly start flashing. In my experience, Jeeps look good but come w/ too many issues. Thank you lauren jordan.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2011

Over the past few weeks while driving the vehicle will flash a warning saying service park assist system. When this happens the gear display on the dash prnd will all 4 get circled and flash and then as you are accelerating you can feel the vehicle lose speed. You can no longer accelerate the vehicle and have to coast off the road. Once you stop and shift to park then back to drive it will reset and then allow you to accelerate. I was going 65 on the freeway when this happened last and this is a major safety issue. For about the past 30,000-40,000 k miles we have had issues with it shifting properly and every time we took it to the dealer they can never re create the issue. Now we are receiving this warning and it actually stops accelerating on its own. It is happening more and more. We took it to the dealer since this warning now came on and they said they have never heard of it, they couldn't re create it, that it has nothing to do with the shifting and to turn off our park assist system so it doesn't happen. We are attempting a different dealer today but first thing they said is they never hear of this either. So comforting!.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

My boyfriend and I were driving home from dinner and about half way home the car suddenly stopped accelerating and the speed dropped from 70 mph to 40 and kept slowing down. We had to pull over and turn the car off and then back on. The car has done this several times since and a light comes on that says "service park assist". I have read up on this year, make and model and have found that this is a very common issue that has not been dealt with! this is also a very dangerous issue. I also found that it has nothing to do with the "park assist" but rather the transmission in the truck and that many have failed well before 50,000 miles but shortly after Jeep's 35,000 mile warranty. Jeep did not cover my car because I bought it used which terminated the warranty because I was not the original owner. I am very disappointed - this is my first Jeep - and I have wanted a Jeep for years. The car still decelerates at times - I can be in traffic or pulling off from a stop or turning a corner and all of a sudden it is not shifting or accelerating. I can't afford a new car right now but am concerned about my family's safety. Please read up on the many articles and comments from people about this problem and save lives!!! with so many complaints and close-call accidents I would think that since it is 2011 something would have been done by now!.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2010

2007 Jeep Commander shut off on highway.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

The car suddenly shuts down completely when driving on the highway.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

I own a 2007 Jeep Commander SUV. I have been having numerous problems with it stalling while I am in motion. It also stalls sometimes while I am at a light or stop sign. Another strange occurrence is that sometimes I start it and its moving and I am stepping on the gas and it just has no power. It gets to about 20 mph and I can step all the way down on the gas pedal and nothing, it has no power. I pull over shut the engine off and start it again and it is fine until the next time. I have been having this problem since September and have contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle as well as other mechanics and I am told something about a sensor sensing that there is a malfunction. They cannot however fix the problem and act like this is very strange and they have never heard of this complaint. I am afraid that one of these days this will cause an accident and either I or my children or someone else will be seriously injured or even worse, killed.
