The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. Whenever the contact drove the vehicle between 45-50 mph and accelerated, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced. The failure occurred after replacement of the water pump. The current and failure mileages were 55,000. Updated 4/5/10 updated 06/18/10.
2007 Jeep Commander, 92,000 miles, stalls while driving without any warning. I was able to guide vehicle to side of the road and re-start the engine. This stalling problem has occurred on about ten occasions now, once with my kids on board, a scary situation to say the least. Sometimes before the problem starts the park assist will turn itself off and then the check engine light will come on. We have tried several times to get an error code from the computer system by turning the key 3 times in a row but it never returns a code. Sometimes the check engine light will stay on for a couple of days but eventually goes out and the Jeep will run fine until it happens again. The last time this occurred the ability to shift the gears from 1 to 4 was inoperable and when you pressed the gear shift right or left it remained in drive. I have called several dealerships and have been advised that they haven't heard anything of this problem and they want me to pay to have a diagnostic ran but can't confirm what the problem is.
Early 2010 I experienced issues with the engine light, "service park assist' and all my gears lighting up at once, and not being able to accelerate in the middle of 65mph traffic!. After researching the 'symptoms' and talking to several mechanics it was discovered the esm 'was bad' and was replaced. It began at approx 55,000 miles. I went thru quite a process with Chrysler over this issue. Long story short, now. . . Amazingly after another 60,000 miles (coincidence???) I need to have it replaced again as all the same things are happening? Jeeps usually last a long time, and this is not an issue with maintaining my vehicle or how I drive. . . So I will have to potentially replace it again and again? of course Chrysler tells me its not a known problem with the vehicles yet just on this site and looking for the exact complaints I find no less than 45 of the same complaint and at least another 100+ that are probably the same just worded differently. How many complaints does it take to have a company pay for and replace defective parts? does it take a certain number of fatalities?? I honestly don't understand how it just gets ignored fort years and years. On top of that, the work has to be done at a dealer due to certain tools needed, and its no less than $1000 to replace. How convenient for the company.
My engine light has been coming over the last couple years. In September 1, 2009 took car to dealership because engine light, acceleration slow or stalling, car shaking and transmission clunks into gear. I had 48,286 miles at that time. They did a diagnostic test and codes p0430 & p0420 (catalytic converter efficiency failure. Dealership reprogrammed pcm and stated this cleared the codes. Took car back to dealership 09/18/2009 engine light came back on again. Dealership installed a sopcat converter and 2 oxygen sensor. My engine light comes on again 02/2012 with shaking, riding rough, while driving stalling , accelerating up or down. Dealership replaced pcm, same day getting car back engine light came back on again took back to dealership the following day. Now they state its the catalytic converter. Now my warranty is out. I already paid out for pcm now have to pay for catalytic converter. This should have been replaced back in 09/2009. Both the pcm & catalytic converter was an issue back in 2009 and should have been replaced then. Now I have to pay out all this money. I think its a recall.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while the brakes were applied. The vehicle could potentially lunge forward and crash into another vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the vehicle needed basic routine maintenance. The dealer performed a tune-up and cleaned the fuel system; however, it did not correct the failure. The contact took vehicle the vehicle back to the dealer who stated that the vehicle needed a new gear shift. The gear shift repair part was on back order. The contact stated that this was a known failure that the manufacturer needed to address. The failure mileage was 84,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was brought to a complete stop, the engine would exhibit an unusual increase in rpms and the vehicle would abnormally accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they inspected and ran a diagnostic but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least three times for the exact same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 61,000.
While driving my assistance sytem brake light came on I was driving 30mph and had to pull over the car would not shift or go over 30 mpr at 31,505 miles on it and the ems electric transmission shift module. Has to be replaced. 4 yrs later millage at 82,000 miles the same part has to be replaced. This time I was on interstae 94 driving 60mpr and the lights came on I pulled off interstate and when I pulled into gas station the car pulled and lunged I turned it off waited and turned back on while I was driving at at 30mpr it would not go past 30mpr. I have contacted Chrysler and all they can say is hold on to your receipts as this part is no longer under warranty and informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. This malfunctions has caused me to no longer feel safe in my car. I don't want to drive my car with my daughter in it.
This problem began in the fall of 2008. Typically, after shifting the car into drive, the car would not accelerate past idle speed, have a moderate bucking, all gear selector lights on the dash were boxed in, and an error message would read "service park assist system". The problem was serviced under warranty. The dealership checked wires and connectors, and replaced the bezel assembly on shifter. This seemed to solve the problem until recently. Beginning a few months ago, around the beginning of 2012, I am having the same problem with the exact same symptoms: all gear selector lights illuminated, no acceleration for 10-15 seconds, and service park assist system message. The problem occurs almost always in the morning on the way to work, school, etc. . It has never lasted longer than 15-20 seconds on any day, and seems to occur approximately one to two times per week, over the last 4 weeks. I have an appointment later this week at a dealer to check out the problem. But reading several internet sources, this obviously not an isolated issue, as there are many accounts of the same problem.
The above information was for the first time this incident occurred. While driving at any speed the car will stall out of no where due to the electronic shift module. I had it replaced 11/08 which was only a year after the car was made. It is completely acting up again and the module needs replaced again. I understand that they have not recalled this issue but there are over 145 complaints of the same issue but yet on your website it says a recall is necessary when there is a safety-related defect in the vehicle or equipment. A safety defect is defined as a problem that exists in a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that: poses a risk to motor vehicle safety. Examples of defects considered safety-related:steering components that break suddenly causing partial or complete loss of vehicle control. Accelerator controls that may break or stick. Critical vehicle components that break, fall apart, or separate from the vehicle, causing potential loss of vehicle control or injury to persons inside or outside the vehicle. Along with the above I have children and if they are inside this vehicle while something happens just wait until I slap the lawsuit along with the many others as a result of this issue that nobody is doing nothing about. I almost was rear ended on the expressway by vehicles going 75 mph because of the car stalling/not wanting to accelerate! I want answers and I want them now!.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The vehicle began shaking and stalled when engaging the brake pedal. There were no warning lights before the shaking and stalling occurred. On two occasions the dealer diagnosed the failure and the second time they updated the computer. Twenty minutes after leaving the dealer the shaking and rattling recurred and has continued to become progressively worse. The dealer cannot diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 24,200. Updated 5/14/09 the consumer stated when his foot was on the accelerator, it jammed to the floor. And the engine began to rev, the consumer attempted to apply the brake, but the vehicle continued to rev. Updated 05/14/09.
I called the dealer (walnut creek Chrysler Jeep) in 2007 that my engine made a stalling noise when I started the engine, and they said not to worry about it (I purchased the vehicle in may 2007, so only a few months later). I moved the car to CT, and to TX (warranty companies continue to track my address, no word of recalls, they almost stalk me, I have the mailings to prove it, which I would like to opt-out from; only use an e-mail for recalls). For months, and years, I have been complaining that my vehicle has been accelerating usually while stopped at a traffic light, it stalls while driving, the front panel lights flicker even shut off (seems running on auto pilot), the engine self-shuts off for no reason. I even asked dealers if there were any recalls, they said no. I heard that many people had their front panel vehicle lights flicker erratically, also the self-accelerating and self-stalling problems with their vehicles. The thought that my car had been hacked crossed my mind (many studies show that this can happen); I contacted my insurance company, and also the state police agency regarding a drivers license and agency documentation fine print about research. No accidents, but the above problems continue to affect my vehicle (the panel lights "some what" slowed down, but the self-acceleration, self-stalling continue, and self-shut down continue. I have driven my vehicle for approximately 35,000 miles, and purchased it new in may 2007. Is this a safety issue? note: do not post or distribute my personal information, or upload to a public database. Please keep my personal information private. In addition, I do not want to be pestered with more warranty offers; I have no idea how they obtained my physical address.
