Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle failed to start. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also stated that the engine warning light had previously illuminated and the cruise control was activated but independently deactivated and over time failed to function. The vehicle had been taken to a dealer but the contact was unsure about what needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was . 54,000 oo.
On Saturday August 6, 2011 while driving at 65 mph the electronic throttle control system malfunctioned and the vehicle would not slow down for 1. 5 miles. The cruise control was not in use and the floor mat was in a normal position. The etc warning was on during this malfuction but went off when the vehicle was stopped. During this episode the brakes and lower gears were used to slow down while the rpm was running very high.
