2007 Jeep Commander. Consumer writes in regards to broken and rusted seat belts in vehicle. The consumer stated the dealer agreed to replace the seat belts in the vehicle, but has not made contact to schedule an appointment. The consumer stated the roof leaked causing the vehicle to flood and damaging the windows and speakers.
4 out of 7 seat belts will not click in. One of those that won't click in can sometimes go in but then if pulled will come out.
The 3rd row seatbelts click as if they're latching and do not lock. This allows them to pop out when unexpected and would be dangerous in an accident. This 3row pretty much fits children who may not recognize the problem. I paid to replace mine and within 4 months the new ones I bought from dealer broke. It appears the faulty design of the folding seat is one thing that breaks the seatbelts latches. Several people have this problem and just sell the vehicle to some unsuspecting person. Below I put roughly the date I found it, but had bought the vehicle and it was already broken. I just didn't know it or know to check it.
Vehicle is having issues getting stuck in gear and not shifting unless you stop, turn off, and when turned back on will work for a while and then happen again. 3rd row seat belt doesnt work.
The seat belt wont latched unless you press down the released button on both driver and passenger. Also the panels leaked on passenger side and the top.
Air bag indicator light on . Ignition switch problem prior relates power mechanical devices, windows, sunroof, seats which present a safety hazard. . Loss of functionality of these systems increases safety and injury risk. Chrysler worked on the ignition switch and after had issues with windows and airbag.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the front and passenger side seat belts would not properly lock. The contact indicated that when connecting the seat belt the red button had to be pressed in order to lock and secure. Once locked the warning light would erroneously illuminated indicating that the seat belt was not locked. The cause of the failure was not determined the local dealer reedman toll Chrysler/Jeep(300 baltimore pike springfield, PA) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 49,000. Jft.
When moving at a speed of greater than 3mph, the passengers seat seatbelt sensors indicates the passenger is not wearing a seat belt and sings constantly. The system does not register that the seatbelt is engaged.
Air bag came on and doesn't go off, engine light is on constantly even after vehicle is repaired. Vehicle shuts off while you are driving. Seat belts are broken woke stay after being repaired. Windows get stck.
I called last 8/9/18 to brought the attention on what's going on with my vehicle. I received a respond from NHTSA dated 8/28/18. Please review your computer system from my report. There is additional problem that I just experienced recently when we have a severe storm happened last 8/10/18 the sun roof was leaking and it flooded the driver side floor. I have to clear the water and open all the doors to let it dry and applied anti mold disenfectant to protect our health. Also the computer system discontinued working. The system monitor failed. Dealer was asking $ 800. 00 to fix monitor system. Some of the issues in this vehicle was not brought to the dealer due to I have no funds to pay for the service. Not all people have a substantiate funds especially I'm out of job. I was not sure if I am the second owrner of this vehicle because we bought it use. When we bought it the mileage was 125000 miles. I'm not sure the history of this vehicle. I suggest that you might find that information through the dealer. As I recollect my past complaints was, while driving 40 miles (mph) the speed suddenly reduced and the check engine light warning sensor remained illuminated. In addition, the front driver seat would erroneously change positioned whole operating the vehicle. In addition to this both seat belt at the back passenger side was not working so passenger cannot access it while traveling. When I turned on the heater nor air-condition there was a roaring sound coming from the air-condition vent especially when it was turned on high. So over all this is my respond from the letter that you have send date 8/28/18. If you have any more question in regards to my respond from your letter please feel free to write at carolyn palomata 212 eagle creek road moyock, nc 27958 or my contact number 757-759-6729. First the seat belt wouldn't click into place without pressing down the red button. Now even if you do that the seat belt light/dings will be on throughout the ride. I see on the internet many others having this issue.
While raining water drains into vehicle from sunroof causing electrical problems. Lights constantly flickering, dashboard lights constantly turning on and off, interior water damage, rusting inside components. This incident happens constantly forcing me to keep headlights on high beam at all times while the car is stationary as well as in motion on streets as well as highways. This problem causes unnecessary problems being that while the car is going through this the turning signals, wiper blades, air conditioning turn off and on. Even though my car was serviced under warranty for rear seatbelts the belts are constantly jamming keeping my children captive and at some points it will not successfully latch.
Vehicle shutting off when stalling or at a stop driving down a city street with vehicles behind me. Idleing high when turning on or driving. Just had some thing fixed and issue still not resolved seems to be ecm/pcm possibly. Some sort of water entrance unsure where from had windshield reinstalled and I still get puddles on my driver and passenger feet. Back set belts keep braking was told this is a defect when seats are layed down seat buckles break and need to be replaced which is a safety issue with my children since I have 4 and need these to be functional they have been replaced 3 times and am now told it's a defect.
Front driver and passenger seat belts can only be buckled if the release button is depressed. Seat belt warning light is on.
The door handles have completely disentegrated an the windows no longer operate. The seat belts work intermittently and the door locks unlock an lock at random. The engine starts an stops on it's own. This vehicle was my dream vehicle but now I feel totally endangered by the lack of care and design by Jeep. I feel it is a ticking time bomb ready to cause danger at some point to me or my family.
The latch on the 2nd row passenger side seat belt fell apart and is unusable. The latch on the 2nd row drivers side seat belt is malfunctioning. It does not always accept the seat belt and if it does, will not release without significant force making it also unusable. Not only do we have no seat belts in the 2nd row (except for small center seat) but this is also causing the airbag warning indicator to come on & off while driving.
Vehicle was sold with no lights in back, including break and reverse lights, broken seat belts in back seats and one back seat that does not fold down which blocks rear view, and finally with bald tires that needed to be replaced immediately. The lights were supposedly fixed by the dealership's repair shop but after only a few weeks the lights were not working. The seat belts were supposed to be replaced and we were told that replacements were ordered but the dealership never called back to confirm that they arrived and ready for installation, they still have not been replaced. We were told that the tires and seat folding down were not safety issues and had to replace the tires ourselves. The seat still does not fold down and the lights on the back of the vehicle still don't stay on.
Passenger side seatbelt is shorter than driver side. Passenger seatbelt is always tight on the average size person.
Two seat belt buckles in the back seat are broken. There should be two red plastic guides that guide the latch plate into the buckle and one guide is missing on both outer seating positions in the back seat. I can send pictures if needed. My daughter has the same vehicle and it has the same problem. I will be reporting hers under her VIN number.
The 2nd row seat belt buckle moves up so there for the seat belt wont latch enless you move plastic covering down also the Jeep shifts hard when put in reverse or drive.
Seatbelts sometimes do not stay buckled in the buckle without force. Seatbelts get stuck on the ones that do buckle when parked or on. Two middle row seatbelts fell completely off. One third row seatbelt does not buckle at all. One 3rd row seatbelt gets stuck on a daily basis in the buckle with the vehicle parked or not parked and the belt always gets stuck in the booster seats we have to completely remove the booster seats everytime we need to rebuckle the seats. The actual buckles fall apart easily.
The 3rd row seating buckles in our Jeep Commander began to stick about 6mos after purchase. We noticed the buckle would stick under the 3rd row seating and then the buckle would no longer unlatch at times. The belt would latch into the buckle, but would get stuck inside even while pushing the release button. A couple of weeks after the buckle sticking the buckle would also unlatch at anytime without pressing the release button (while moving and while stationary). During this time the buckle was unstable and we chose to use the passenger side for the majority of car rides, but as we have a large family use of the belt was necessary. At one point the buckle became stuck while my son was restrained by the belt. We had to pry the belt out of the buckle. From this point on the buckle would no longer latch. A few months later we noticed the passenger side buckle would release at any time, (mobile or stationary). The buckle would also stick and would not release at times. It appears the passenger side buckle is now unsafe and having the same issues the driver side buckle caused. The 3rd row seating is attached to the buckles in a way it seems to cause these issues with the buckle. I have found multiple complaints on google forums and complaint sites. The buckles are failing due to faulty manufacturing. The 3rd row seating causes damage to the buckles. Over time these buckles need replaced multiple times. The buckle releases without being released and will cause serious injury or death. The buckle release will stick and could cause serious injury or death in an emergency when passenger would need removed. This issue should be a recall and replaced in all 2007 Jeep Commander 3rd row seats. This issue will cause serious injury or death.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side seat belts failed to latch correctly. The contact stated that the seat belt warning indicator illuminated and an audible indicator was heard while driving. The vehicle was taken to the Jeep store (810 NJ-35, ocean township, NJ 07712 (732) 774-6500) where it was diagnosed with a seat belt assembly failure that needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The contact googled the failure and found many complaints for the seat belt failure. The failure mileage was approximately 205,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the second row driver and passenger side seat belt buckles malfunctioned and would not properly lock and/or unlock. On occasions, while driving, the buckles would erroneously unlock. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (sherwood Jeep, 1915 n. Salisbury blvd, salisbury, MD) was notified. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Rear seatbelt latches are breaking, and susceptible to breakage. The orange release button on the seatbelts break easily. My concern is that it will happen when there's an emergency and the occupant may not be able to exit the vehicle due to the defective material in the latch release, possibly trapping the occupant. I suspect that the material used for these plastic release latches was incorrectly specified, and became brittle over time.
Seat belt warning chime continually sounds when front driver or passenger seat belts are latched, the seats are occupied, and the vehicle is in motion.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. When latching a booster seat on the third row driver side seat, the latching system failed. The seat belt unlatched while driving. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v461000 (air bags, seat belts); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Seat belt alarm is malfunctioning. Even though the seat belt is buckled, the alarm constantly goes off while the car is in motion on a city street and a highway. It's a safety hazard because it's a distraction while driving. It also encourages the driver to take off their seat belt to see if they can deactive the sensor by having to rebuckle again.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the transmission, the catalytic converter, and the windshield wipers failed. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to shift gears and that the seat belt failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission solenoid and the catalytic converter sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the seat belt and the windshield wipers motor were not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Djr.
