The seat belts in my third row, which I use maybe 10% of the time are broken. They broke way too early in my cars life. I never knew that I could report it until my mechanic said to. I called Jeep to let them know that its a safety issue and I would like them replaced, and they declined to do so. I have had many Jeep new and very old and the seat belts were never an issue, which makes me think these seat belts were defective or maybe the way the 3rd row folds down is the cause.

Going to strap the grand child in the back seat the seat belts lock up coming out before fully pulled out. This has happened several times. Even has happened to me a few times on front drivers seat. Today strapping the grand child in it lock while she was seat belted in. We went to undo the seat belt and it would not give ant slack to undo belt. We had to slid her out of the seat belt in order to get her out. One time before she started screaming while we were driving because the seat beat had gotten extremely tight on her. I had a hard time getting her out. She has become scared of the seat belts. I,m getting worried myself.

Vehicle has just now reached 84000 and has been experiencing these symptoms for about 20000 miles now. The vehicle is experiencing what I believe to be short circuits within the cabin and are as follows /drivers door window actuater switch not allowing proper window operation . Also same affected side /drivers door is being indicated by vehicle notification system that it is open. Even when it's not also vehicle will not and does occasionally. Airbag light will stay on during supposed to be normal operating speeds. Vehic)ie when stopped as well passenger manual seat has a chattering sound when moved forward or backward. Vehicle has and does get its required maintenence routine however these anomalies couldn't even be explained fully the repair shop we had taken it to by some fluke the malfunction didn't occur each time we've havery taken it to them wowever me fear is that it is some kind of short in the electrical component and me cause a overheated situation and catch the vehic)e on fire. For clarification the vehicle does it through all operating modes as to which like I stated is a short of some kind. In the door is or the computer don't know. Couldn't get a straight on answer as far as to why it still does it.

I have been having trouble getting my both of my front seat belts to latch. I have to hold the red button down for it to attach. Then on April 3, 2015, even though my front seat passenger latched the seat belt, the sensor never quit chiming. The dealership, mack grubbs motors, in columbia, ms has not been able to fix the problem.
I have to hold the red latch in order to buckle anod the seat belt light constantly chimes while driving.
To whom this may concern, I called back in late 2014 about a problem I was having, I was told that when the part was made iwould receive a call to bring my car in to be fixed. Well it keeps on happening again in January and now more then three time in February. I am now going to be in contact with a lawer and together we will be documenting everything. I am a family of five and my car is not safe. Your company is giving me the run around and it is your responsibilty. These things that are happening with my car is filed from the national highway traffic safety administration with recall report electrical system, electrical system: ignition: switch and rear seat belts. My car keeps on shutting off. I have had myself and my clildren in the car when this has happened. I saved us too many times. There has been times when my car shut down and I lost breaks and stering. There was mult times when I am driving and all of my lights start going crazy. Now I have a problem that I tried starting my car and the lights go on but my ignition will not turn on the car. Another phone call was made to the corporate office and the dealership to complain again. We where told that they are still waiting for the parts to come in they are on back order. Every day I have to drive this car with and without my children we are at risk. Your resonisible, I have had two other Jeeps and loved them never had a problem like this before. So I dont know what else to do I need to work and transport my children to and from different school/sports activites. If something happens to me or my family it will lie on you and your company. Enough is enough I am scared for my life and my children please help me!!!!!.
My daughters were in the 3rd row seating when they went to buckle their seatbelts and they would not click in. They were both broken and would not stay attached. The plastic casing is falling off of them and they are not safe. The 3rd row right seat would not fold down. The latch that should be pulled would not engage and now the seat will not fold down. Lastly, the drivers side interior door handle crumbled inward and is not able to be used to open the door. I took my car to the dealer and they stated that it was my problem as it is not covered under the extended care warranty I purchased for $2500 and I would have to pay $700 for the door handle and $300 for seat belts and $100 for the seat to fold. I explained that the above was all safety issues and should be fixed by manufacturers and they said that it wasn't covered. I even told them that I saw the recalls and they told me that it wasn't for my Jeep. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer and considered a recall.
1) the seat belt casing breaks away from the seat belt making it difficult if not impossible to insert and connect seat belt into receptacle. 2) interior door handle (rear passenger) suddenly quit working, not allowing passenger to exit vehicle. This is a serious safety issue in the event of an accident or other necessary emergency exit scenario.
The left third row seat belt got crushed by the faulty seat mechanism causing it to not release when the button was pushed. The passenger in that seat had to crawl out from under the belt in order to escape the vehicle. The problem now includes both 3rd row belts and they are unusable.

Both front seat belts do not operate as expected. In order to use them, one must depress the red unlatch button in order to insert metal buckles into the latches. I am writing to report the seat belt operational hazard as it appears from some research that this is a common problem on this model and similar year range Jeep grand cherokee models.
The roof leeks and water falls on the driver while driving. The water accummulates and you can hear water shift from side to side while driving above your head. Seat belt does not work. Dashboard flashes.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while the vehicle starts, the air bag light warning illuminated continuously. In addition, the driver and passenger seat belts failed to retract. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the seat belts needed to be replaced but the air bag failure was undetermined. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Ak.
My eight year-old daughter was sitting in the third-row seat on the passenger side as we drove down the freeway. She leaned forward in her seat and the metal part of the seat belt retractor completely broke off above the bolt and below the buckle. This car was involved in a minor fender-bender two years ago (with no one sitting in that seat),but is otherwise accident-free. As a mother of four small children, this malfunction is of extreme concern. I do my best to comply with all the car seat laws, but what does it matter if the seat belts themselves fail?.
After application of safety recall n23/ NHTSA 13v-175. Reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) Jeep® grand cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) Jeep Commander, the transfer case of our car could not be shifted out of 4-high to either neutral or 4-low. Consequently a major drive train component has been destroyed. This demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous and may not correct the reason for the recall. This is completely unacceptable and is indeed a safety risk. Chrysler has not remedied the problem even after thousands of complaints. I demand that NHTSA force Chrysler's hand in this matter as nothing is being done to fix this faulty recall!.
I purchased my Jeep Commander on February 12, 2014. A week after I purchased it my check light came on so I took it back to the dealership. It was for my catalytic converter. The people in the garage stated it was just a sensor and not to worry about it I told them to fix it while it was still covered under my warranty. They wouldn't. The next day all of the dome lights and dashboard lights in my truck started flickering while driving down the road. (still does it to this day). Soon after my brakes went out on me while driving down the road with my kids so I had to get the calipers and everything changed. Next it was the windows they all stopped working. The end of January 2015, while driving down the road again with my children, all of the lug nuts and bolts fell off of my tire rear passenger side tire. I ended up calling the tow truck and took it back to the dealership where I bought it. $2500 and two weeks later I get my truck back, have it for a day & it starts jerking on my way to work. They fixed everything that had to do with my tires and suspension. They also inform me I need my catalytic converter changed after they told me not to worry about it it's just the sensor acting funny. (it could've been fixed when I asked them to do it while it was covered under my warranty) now my lights start flashing my wheel speed sensors aren't working and is messing with my abs system and traction. They just tell me to shut the traction off while I'm driving it should fix the problem. I end up taking it back in the shop. A month later I'm driving home from work and my serpentine belt busts and I lose control of my truck. Another $500 dollar job. Present day, my truck is back in the shop for a routine brakes and rotors fix and they call and say I need my outer tirods fixed and rear axle something. I've put more money into this truck than I've paid for it in the past year.
On 2/11/14 took vehicle into the Chrysler dealership because of the starter motor not working properly and it had turned off while I was driving on several occasions. They had to replace the starter motor and I had to pay for it. After this the air bag light went on and I would think this is a safety issue and I should not had to pay for any of this. But I did. They told me they had to replace a short in the harness part #5143387aa. Also, the said the driver seat belt was causing air bag light to go on. This was a defect. I believe that if these are recalls and safety issues from Chrysler and I had to pay for them I would think that Chrysler should reimburse me for taking care of these problems before something bad really happened. I am always maintaining my vehicle and I am very glad that I have taken care of these problems. I would appreciate a email back and hopefully a refund for paying for something that should have been a recall. I have all of my records and receipts if you need copies. Thank you.
The seat belt on the third row right side seat is completely stuck tight against the seat. This has to be a defect because we rarely use the third row seats on my vehicle. Worst part is that I have small children that could have been hurt very badly because of the seat belt. Furthermore, the seat belts on the second row seats are completely falling apart because of the low quality plastics being used by Jeep. One seat belt on the second row has become completely useless because it just wont click in anymore. I have 2 other vehicles (2006 Ford f150, 2005 Ford focus) with which I have no trouble with the seat belts at all. In fact, the seat belts on my two other vehicles look as good as new and my children ride in them just as much as they ride my 2006 Jeep Commander. I have contacted Chrysler and my local dealership to no avail. I notified both about the danger of my 5 and 9 year old children riding in the vehicle but have gotten no positive responses. I am writing to this government agency before I go spend hundreds of dollars to get the seat belts fixed. Please respond back.
Third row seat belts are inoperable. They broke when we folded down third row seats.
The third row seat, seatbelt broke, where the belt plugs in at the bottom of the seat. It snapped of while my four year old tried to buckle up a week or so ago. This was such a potentially dangerous problem. What would have happened if it snapped while in a vehicle accident? my boy would have probably been killed. While looking online I found multiple recalls on the vehicle, one being the exact same seatbelts. I called barnett Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram kia in maplewood, mn, who said they would help me out with one recall, but said the seatbelt issue didn?t relate to my VIN. I was basically told that I was responsible to foot the bill for their faulty product. Does this sound right? is there some type of moral obligation or law that helps us out from being screwed over in this sense? please get back, were taking the vehicle in tomorrow. We rely on this vehicle, there are six people in our family (four young children) and this is our family vehicle.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while coming to a stop the vehicle, the passenger's third row seatbelt latch fractured. The vehicle was inspected but, not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 117,475. Updated 11/19/lj updated 11/26/2013.
We were driving along and started breaking to prepare to stop, when my 9 year old son, who was seated in the third row passenger seat, says "mom, my seat belt just broke. " I turn to see what he was talking about and he handed me the whole buckle, the part that the seat belt clicks into. I was horrified. Luckily we hadn't been in an accident or even stopped fast. I call the manufacturer to see what we needed to do. They told me my vehicle wasn't under warranty and they wasn't any recalls for that issue. They stated I needed to take it to a dealer to see if there was a defect. So, I did and they just told me I need to replace the part and it would cost over $300, which I don't have to spare. I ask why I would have to pay when it was clearly a defect and it's law that to have working seat belts, he said Chrysler would not pay for it. The metal piece that holds it to the car or to some other piece was severed. I believe it is from the folding system. Obviously there is a problem has I have seen other complaints, none as severe as mine, and a recall that was similar to my issue. Something needs to be done and the manufacturer needs to be held accountable.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that when entering the vehicle, the passenger's third row seat belt would not latch properly. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 113,700.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the front driver and rear passenger's side seat belts failed latch properly. Also, the contact stated that the rear passenger's side interior door handle became fractured. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the seat belts and the door handles needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 79,000.
My 2006 Jeep Commander driver side seat belt wont latch. I have to hold down the red release button to force it to engage. Seven days later the passenger seat belt wouldn't latch. This time even if I force the latch to engage by holding down the red release tab, it does not turn off the seat belt warning alarm. This most certainly is a recall item and so many of us are having the same problem at the same time. I am going to report also to daimler/Chrysler.
The 3rd row seat belt do not retract when the seats are being folded down which causes the seat belts to become jammed and tearing the seats, also when fixed, the seat belt will become locked in place causing a person to become stuck in the seatbelt, a very serious problem in case of an accident, this person would not be able to get out of his/her seat. This is a defect from Jeep and should be fixed at Jeeps expense. Jeep customer service told me that they had no previous complaints, but I found out that there are several complaints about the seat belts.
3rd row seatbelt, passenger side, will not come out and cannot be used. 2nd row seatbelts have deteriorated to needing replacement.
I was 270 miles away from home when the passenger side seatbelt would not lock. I brought it into the local Jeep dealership to inquire if there was some easy fix or if they had a part on hand. They informed me that they could in fact have the part the following day. I had to return to work the next day so that was not going to be an option. The part I was told would be a little over $300 for parts and labor. After some research I discovered that this seems to be a problem with my year of vehicle. My passenger had to ride the way home in the back seat. Not exactly ideal. Considering the fact that the seatbelt is quite possibly the most effective safety device of any vehicle I can not imagine Jeep not putting out a recall for the safety of its consumers. I understand the concept of warranty on a vehicles engine, but a seatbelt is not something I would think needs replacement. Not everyone has money to pay for this fix, nor should they be asked to pay for this serious defect that could be the difference between life and death. I love my vehicle I just expect more concern from the company that made it.
The passanger selt belt does not latch. You have to hold down the red press button to latch. Once latched the seat belt alarm continues to chime like is does not reconize the seat belt is latched. It's annoying but at the same time concerned if the seat belt is working properly. After researching on line there are several compliants and this should be consider a recall.
My 8 year old niece was buckling her seatbelt in the third row when the locking mechanism of the seat belt broke off in her hand. What would have happened in (god forbid) an accident? it sure wouldn't have restrained her!.
Having front seat belt issues. They both don't lock properly. I have to hold down the red release button to lock them and now the computer does not reconize them as being locked and the seat belt warning light stays on and it chumes all the time and does not stop. Is there a recall for this because I see a lot of complaints for this issue. Is there an easy fix for this and can it be turned off. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the driver's side seat belt failed to properly secure the contact. The vehicle was not taken the dealer nor was the manufacturer notified. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000. The VIN was not available. Mah.
3rd row seat belts break and are unusable whenever the 3rd row seats are folded down. The plastic piece is pushed over the metal latching piece of the seat belt. They have been fixed and are now broken again, now the 3rd row seat cannot be used for passengers. Water from rain is coming through the doors, puddling at the base of the door. The Jeep was in park, when I attempted to put the car in reverse it would not go, all of the prd were lit up with blocks around them. I turned off the Jeep and I was able to put the car in reverse.
The driver side seat belt buckle stopped functioning properly over a couple of weeks. It was hard to engage the belt then it stopped recognizing the belt was buckled and the warning continually came on. Passenger side is now doing same. I had driver's buckle replaced at a whopping cost of approx. $400.
3rd row seat belt on passenger side never worked. The seat belt wouldn't lock in. Now my 2nd row middle seat belt will not unlock to pull out and buckle.
