While traveling at about 25 mph with my 6 month old child in the vehicle, my car lost all power. The electronic throttle control indicator light came on (flashing) and so did the slide protection light. I was not able to accelerate beyond 20mph and when I came to a stop, the vehicle ran very rough like it was going to die. Luckily I puttered home and my child was safe. I had the vehicle towed to my local Jeep dealership and after almost 5 days of trying to diagnose the problem, they informed me that the pcm needed replaced. They stated that they were "very confident" that this would fix the problem. Well today, they pcm was replaced and the problem persists. The Chrysler/Jeep dealership still cannot pinpoint the problem and it seems that this is a very common problem for the 2007 Jeep Compass. At the time of the incident, I was so scared as I alsmot got into a wreck when my vehicle lost power. My 6 month old child could have been hurt, or worse. Even if this car get fixed, I will be so apprehensive to drive anywhere in it with my child for fear that it will give out again. This seems to be a major problem with these cars and there should be a recall in my opinion. I do not feel that this is a repair that I, or other Jeep Compass owners, should be responsible for as 1. It is all too common and 2. The pcm/electrical system is not a component that wears out with mileage or usage. I believe the problem is due to faulty manufacturing on behalf of Chrysler/Jeep. While I wait to see if the car can be repaired, my repair bill just keeps growing. I have decided to take action for this issue and that is why I am filing this complaint. Please contact me at anytime with any help, support, or questions as I will be awaiting your response. Thank you.
Last year, 2010 I had to replace the tie rods in my 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. It only had 36,000 miles at the time. Now I'm told the ball joints are bad. I can't drive my care because it throws me all over the road. A very definate safety problem, not to mention the money I'm shelling out for the repairs.
I was informed by the dealership of which I purchased my vehicle that my vehicle requires front control arms and tie rods which was given an estimate of about $900. 00 to correct. My vehicle has 17,000 miles and is out of warranty, however, I viewed numerous complaints online of the same nature on the same year, make, and model vehicle. This appears to be a defect from the manufacturer since there were so many identical complaints indicated online. The dealership requested I do not drive this vehicle until repaired due to a safety issue. The dealership also said the items which need to be repaired will be replaced with a better quality and this occurred on many of these vehicles from this particular year.
2007 Jeep Compass 4x4 with approx. 41,0000 miles needs tie rods lower ball joint/arm. Ball joints also causes owner to pay out of pocket for alignment and replacement of tires since defective ball joint causes tires to wear unevenly. I just paid $2,000 to have my Compass fixed. I check with Jeep before it was fixed the 800 number said it was covered under the 5 yr powertrain, I called the garage were my car was they said they did not think so then I called the dealer who said it was not covered. After my car was in pieces my dealer told me I should of brought the car there they may of been able to get some help for me. Nice time to tell me when it was in pieces. I filed a compliant with Jeep but since this is a saftety hazard I was told the car was not safe to drive. If I hit a pot hole I would of lost control of the car and hurt myself or somelse. What does is take for the NHTSA to make Jeep recall the 2007 Compass to fix this. This is a a major safety issue. Are we going to wait for someone to get killed before something is done to issue a recall. How people have to complain before something is done. .
I bought my 2007 Jeep Compass brand new. I never off-road and I try to drive cautiously avoiding pot holes. I was hearing this weird noise and brought it in to a dealership today. They told me I need to replace the lower control arm costing me several hundred dollars. After searching on the web and seeing all the similar complaints I am convinced this should be a recall. Jeep needs to do something this is not right. This is a repair that should not be needed on such new vehicles.
2007 Jeep Compass 4x4.
I have a 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. Shortly after purchasing it I started to hear a thumping noise in my front end when turning. I also heard a creaking noise whenever going over any bumps or hitting any potholes. The noise was consistent for awhile and then went away. Last year I had a tire blow out while driving. The left front tire blew out and upon looking at the tire- there was very obvious uneven tire wear. I looked at the right tire and it looked exactly like the left tire so we quickly had both front tires replaced with new ones. Five months later my new front tires were bald on the inside. I had to purchase new tires again and we had an alignment check to look into the front end. I was told my left ball joint and right tie rod needed to be replaced. I had the left ball joint done. I was planning to have the tie rod done within a month but I was advised it needed to be done now. After having the ball joint done my steering immediately started to pull to the right violently. I had the tie rod done the next day. This alleviated the pulling on the steering wheel but now I can feel something else. The car is not handling right and it makes me very uneasy to drive it. After doing some research across the web the same problems I am having with my Compass are being experienced by many, many, many people who bought these vehicles. I'm seeing that this is only the beginning of what is going to be a long list of repairs on this vehicle's front end. I'm really shocked that this problem has not been recalled. Tie rods and ball joints are very dangerous. They are the components of your steering and when they malfunction someone is going to crash. If everyone who buys the same car has the same problem (and it is dangerous), why is something not being done?.
