general problems of the 2008 Jeep Compass

Seven problems related to electrical system have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Compass. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

In August 2018, I was informed by a reputable auto repair shop that another auto repair shop that did work on my vehicle less than a month prior, "turned off" the check engine light. I went back to that mechanic and they advised that it is impossible to do so, because its all in one panel. On 11/11/18, all exterior lights on the vehicle stopped working. I went to auto zone to get replacement bulbs, but they advised that this was an electrical problem and I should go to a mechanic. I have already spent a few thousand dollars on a 2008 Jeep Compass including suspension work and other maintenance. I was just informed on 11/15/18 that the tipm is out causing the all exterior lights to not work and the check engine light. The mechanic advised that this is a dealer only problem and could cost me up to $2000. Researching this issue I find that there was a class action law suit against Chrysler in 2015. My vehicle was not included and should have been. In fact, all research shows that there are many complaints for the 2008 Jeep Compass, however this vehicle has not been included in all lawsuits. I was not contacted by anyone. This is a safety issue and now the vehicle cannot be driven until the safety issue has been addressed.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

Etc and traction control light come on for no reason resulting in immediate loss of power at speeds above 50mph. Extremely dangerous when in motion on highway. Issue also occurs while merging/ turning while accelerating, car is usually stationery first. This issue is wide spread in the Jeep community. Hopefully this hasnt killed someone already.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass 4x4. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle jerked to the right. Sparks and flames appeared from the rear of the vehicle. The flames extinguished themselves and the contact parked the vehicle at her residence. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake assembly, four wheel drive, and bearing seized. The front axle failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained inoperable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 171,000.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass 4x4. When the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator was continuously illuminated. The failure recurred each time the vehicle was started. While driving at various speeds, the contact began to hear static coming from the radio that caused the radio to power off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

I bought the vehicle in 5/2014, the following day I noticed odometer jumped up about 300 miles and I live only about 20 miles away from the dealer. I also noticed that tpm light came on and half the radio was lit. I took it back the very next day and said that they would need it to order a new cluster panel and replace the radio. They also claimed they replaced all 4 tire pressure sensors as well as tpm module. They kept the car for about 2 weeks. It worked fine for about 2 days then I started getting even more lights to turn on from the cluster panel. Now I have the 4x4 amber light, trac control, tpm maint, and the abs lights to turn on, I feel I had nothing but problems since day 1. I need help. Total I paid about 13,000 for the car. I need answers. I stronglt believe that the main computer is defective. Its not recogizing a chasis ground. It shouldnt take a fatality to get Chrysler to look into this. I will never buy another Chrysler product again. I feel the Chrysler dealer also kept information private to try and make a sale. M going to the local media if this isnt resolved.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

The brake light switch shorted out causing the brake lights to fail, transmission to shift incorrectly (stuck in wrong gear), and melt electrical wires inside the dashboard. The first symptom was the vehicle would not shift out of park. This can be overridden with a release switch. While driving the vehicle to the dealership for repair, the brakes light failed to engage when the brake pedal was pushed as well as causing extremely poor performance from the transmission. The transmission would not shift properly, which caused speed and control instability. Due to the electrical short in the brake light module, it caused several additional wires to overheat and melt. I have serious concerns for anyone else this happens to. I believe there is a serious design flaw that would allow a faulty brake light switch to hinder the operation of the vehicle in such a way that could cause serious injury or death. Why did the short not blow a fuse? typically, that should happen with an electrical short. Please investigate.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

All vehicle power cuts out under various driving speeds with no rhyme or reason almost as if it stalls (everything dies and the gas pedal releases) there is no hesitation or sputtering it is instant like turning the key off, but after 2 seconds pics back up where it left off. It happens any where from once a month to sometimes three times a day. We took it to a dealer and they could not find anything wrong with it because it did not do it while they had it.
