Automatic Transmission problems of the 2010 Jeep Compass

Last week after pulling out of a side street my 2010 Jeep Compass would not accelerate. I was in a high traffic area and it was dangerous. After putting the car I neutral and back into drive the car finally accelerated. Yesterday, while trying to accelerate onto the highway the car would not go over 40 mph or past 2000 rpm. My foot was to the floor but the car was not accelerating. After about 1/8th of a mile it finally starting to accelerate. This is a new car with only 5200 miles on it.
