1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

Rust thru/failure of the front cross member subframe. I noticed a clicking/rubing sound coming from the front of my 2011 Jeep Compass. Over several days it got worse. I took the car to the same dealership that I bought the car from new and was told it was a rust thru on the subframe and that the car was not safe to drive. At this point there were no warning lights or other indication that the front end was approaching a catastrophic failure. I contacted Jeep and was told that a special 10 year extended warranty had expired in 2022. The dealer offered no help in covering the cost either. I was never informed about the extended warranty, or I would have had the car checked. The thing that really makes me mad is the rust thru occurred on only one side because the a/c drain was routed so it dripped condensation onto the frame on that side. I have the subframe and have included pictures.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2022

We had our Jeep at the local mechanic for a pre winter check up. He found the rear crossmember broken and the front crossmember had holes in it due to corrosion. The vehicle has 211,000 km on it and we’ve owned since new with zero collisions or even a fender bender. Jeep had an extended warranty on these pcs but has denied our claim as 10 years have passed. In my mind this is a safety issue as the wheel assembly could physically break free causing loss of control of the vehicle. These are parts related to the structural integrity of the vehicle and not a normal wear and tear item. This vehicle has been serviced by our local journeyman mechanic licensed in alberta. It was at our local dealership on September 15/2017 for a recall but there is no record of inspection of these crossmembers. Jeep service bulletin dated March 10/2017 states that the affected vehicles should have these parts inspected and replaced if necessary. . Also to add, we never received any correspondence from Jeep asking to bring the vehicle in for inspection. The vehicle has been parked for several days now as both our mechanic and myself believe it’s not safe to be on the road. I’ve gotten nowhere with the district warrant manager or their customer care line staff. I’m reaching out as I believe this is a serious issue and should be a safety recall rather than a service bulletin.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2022

After 4 years of driving my 2011 Jeep Compass and hitting 95,000 miles on it, I noticed that there were problems with filling up my tank and my car stalling. If I don't stop the gas pump myself, a few seconds after pulling out of the gas station my car would stall and idle until my engine would just shut off and my wheel and break would lock. This happened while entering a highway, going into a busy intersection, and trying to get out of large mall space. In all of these settings, I was inches away from a car crash. I have brought this up to multiple mechanics who have never heard of this problem and weren't sure what to do. After doing my own research I realized that this is a common Chrysler/Jeep issue with models made between 2005-2015 models. There are no warning lamps, messages, or any signals that my car is going to stall and idle. I could not imagine a larger safety risk to myself, my passengers, and all of the drivers around me. Last week after filling up my tank and intentionally not filling it up all the way, I thought I was safe to drive home but I was wrong. As I was crossing the intersection five-way traffic, my car began to stall as a semi-truck was heading right into me. Thankfully, I shut my engine off and quickly turned it back on to move out of the middle of the road.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. The contact requested to be removed from the recall distribution list. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2022

-the vehicles front subframe failed to support the vehicles stability, structure, weight, and momentum, during normal driving ,braking, acceleration from a stop, etc. -the corroded and complete 'rusted thru metal' subframe is available for visual/safety inspection, and photo's are attached. - safety was severely compromised while driving, as the "subframe to main channel frame" fastening bolt was sheared and broken off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer, without control, due to the engine weight and front end suspension/components shifting out of position. - independent service centers and auto- mechanic statements in multiple car safety forums have indicated similar situations have occurred, and could be fatal at highway speeds/conditions. - the vehicle is scheduled for dealership inspection and consultation for further use, and/or repair. -no warning lights were initiated at time of this issue. Steering wheel vibration, and loss of steering control occurred.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2021

The crossmember- engine cradle that hold the engine in place. I heard a noise and took it to my mechanic he took pictures of the crossmember showing that it is rusted through showing holes. Took it in to a Jeep dealer to have it diganosed, they confirmed that it is unsafe to drive as the engine can actually fall out. I contacted Chrysler and they said that there was an extension of the warranty on this part that expired a month ago. They sent me to mopar parts to see if they would pay for the repair. After days they rejected the claim. Now this car is 10 years old however it only has 48000 miles which is less than 5000 miles a year. I bought the car bran new. So it all rusted through on a car with only the 48000 miles. At best this should have been a recall. But at least customers owning this car should have been notified about this warranty extension so they could have had it checked and reparied before some one is killed driving a car that the engine could fall out on the road. Now mopar is refusing to cover the cost of fixing it because the warranty extension expired a month and a half ago . Even though they know there is a problem with it. I feel that I need some help in making mopar or Chrysler pay to have this work completed. I also have had to replace the 4 wheel drive as that went bad along with replacing the rear axles as they also rusted.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

I got a recall for a rusted sub frame, front and back in which one has a hole from rust. I take it to courtesys in altoona, PA. The guy earnie tellsme there will be parts surrounding the subframe not included with the recall that must be paid for out of pocket. I think everything to fix my car should be covered. They saw a woman coming! pisses me off to no end.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

I was just given an estimate for a rotted subframe of about 800 for the part alone. This is a known issue that has been reported in several Jeeps. I'm contacting the dealer as well. My Jeep also needs to have the rear subframe also looked at.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2019

Transmission dip stick tube found to be broken when my vehicle was taken in for service.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Catyliac converter recall my Jeep had sudden issues with acceleration on highway until it broke down and I was nearly in a accident took Jeep to midas who found that my engine overheated destroying other components in engine compartment and engine had blown and needed to be replaced other components cost 2000 dollars and engine will cost 6000 dollars by Jeep to be replaced but also my catyliac converter was recalled I was informed by several mechanics that catyliac converter failing could cause the airflow issues for motor and cause cylinders to lose compression due to cylinders rods bending and damaging engine after running compression test cylinders had no compression I informed dealership who called midas liars and accused me of not knowing anything I got catyliac converter replaced but motor is already destroyed Chrysler corporate denied all fault even after providing all evidence proving that the catalytic converter was the original issue I feel that in the catalytic converter recall should include the potential that the engine could fail and causing the cylinders to lose compression.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2019

Vehicle cannot be inspected due to an inspection done by shannon tire. Vehicle was stationary on a lift when the person found the subframe completely gone. The motor is close to falling out and we have read numerous occasions where this same issue has taken place.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2019

Driving at highway speed, lost all power. Coast to the next rest stop, flashers on only going 40mph on highway. Then car off, restart and proceeded home. A few days later same seniro. New transmission from Jeep, $3300. I think they should recall and fix the problems.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

The etc light comes on and the vehicle won't go when stepping on the gas. The engine cuts off in the middle of driving. Some days it starts some days it doesn't. Replaced the relay switches twice and the etc. Neither seems to help. I drive a highway to work everyday and I pray that if it acts up, I can find a place to pull over.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

While I was driving to work, the car started to feel like it was going over a speed bump, it was pushing forward but just enough for me to get out of the road into a gas station. When I finally stopped, I turned the car off and back on. It would start but would not move. Took it to a transmission shop and that what they said is the problem. I only have about 160k miles and should not have to replace my transmission so soon!.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

After noticing my rear tires wearing uneven, we took our car in to have the rear suspension inspected. We got a call telling us the rear subframe had rusted through and broke.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

My 2011 Jeep Compass engine light came on and I started to lose power on the highway. I had to coast to the side of a small median strip and was later towed to the nearest mechanic.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2018

Was driving the car and all of a sudden the abs and road hazard and 4 wheel drive lights stard flashing. I took the car to be severed and the attended said the sensor in the right tire went out.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2017

Rotting sub frame.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

I started up my vehicle and the etc light came on, let me remind you that it's been going on and off every day, well, I put the car in drive and as soon as I let off the brake, my car accelerated to 4 rpm's and I hit the back end of a family friend who was parked in the drive way. I had the body/mechanic shop take a look at it while repairing the body, and they had no for sure answer. I have had 5 different mechanics look at it and had my codes ran more than once. It's ridiculous. The etc light is on constantly. It's all a matter which day its going to accelerate on its own and which day its going to lose power. This is ridiculous. I have called Chrysler multiply times. My argument is the fact that it isn't something that I have done to the car. What if something was to happen and it came on when I was at a traffic light, somebody is walking across the road and my car accelerates. That family is going to sue me and my insurance and my insurance is going to sue Chrysler. It's so pathetic, it costs almost $100 just for them to tell me what's wrong. Then, lord knows how much it will take to actually fix the problem. We have already spent almost $500 trying to fix the problem ourselves and that obviously isn't working. I hope that they're are others who are experiencing this problem so we can get it fixed which it what should've been done a long time ago. There are plenty of complaints online and none of which have found a fix to the problem. My car now has 114,000 miles on it and I still have 4 years left to pay on it. And quite frankly, due to this issue I will probably never buy another Jeep again, chrsyler as a mater of fact. I hope nobody has gotten hurt though! thanks! cierra wall.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

Engine will stumble and stall when driving and headlights are illuminated, windows are rolled down or any electrical drain occurs. This is an indication of tipm failure.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

Pls use this complaint Jeep Compass 4x2 year 2011, today, Sunday, sept. 14, 2014, I heard a noise bottom of my Jeep and found a long metal piece manufacture sticker cvt transmission use only Chrysler. It was a metal pipe transmission oil filler tube, hanging on the bottom of my car, dragging on the ground, while I was driving. I took pictures it has a hole in the metal tube. It started with the steering wheel becoming very loose and requiring to turn more than usual to the right or left, which may be caused from a different recall (components: steering: column, NHTSA campaign : 11v-315), I was never informed about this steering wheel recall. When I safely returned home, on internet noticed different Chrysler forums, ppl same issue Jeep Compass. I notice a recall wranglers with 3. 6-liter v-6 engines), having the same exact issue as I experienced with my Jeep Compass. So, I called Chrysler group llc recall dept. 800-247-9753 today sept. 14 2014. No recall for Compass. Recall for wranglers with 3. 6-liter v-6 engines. Frustrated my 3 year warranty ended last month Aug. 2014. Tomorrow, morning, tow truck Jeep, to local Jeep dealership and pay out of pocket. Chrysler recall dept. Said keep receipts if more people complain then there may be a recall just like the wrangler. The recall issue is exactly what happened to me. (per the wrangler recall solution: (wranglers with 3. 6-liter v-6 engines, Chrysler says a power steering fluid line can wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. The suvs can leak fluid, damaging automatic transmissions. Dealers will inspect the lines for free and replace them or install a protective sleeve. The recall begins in July 2013. ) recalling 221,000 Jeep wranglers worldwide from 2012 and 2013 to fix transmission fluid leaks, according to NHTSA.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2014

It starts with the steering wheel is loose and at first we had no idea what was going on. This issue I have with my Jeep Compass 4x2 year 2011, is the same exact recall on the Jeep wrangler stated below: I called Chrysler group llc, 800-247-9753 today sept. 14 2014. I spoke with the recall dept. They said the Compass, at this time does not have this recall. Only the wrangler below, which has the same exact issue as I do. So, I have to tow truck my Jeep tomorrow morning, to my local Jeep dealership, service dept and pay out of pocket. Chrysler recall dept said keep my receipts if more ppl complain then there may be a recall just like the wrangler has below. This is exactly what happened to me>>>>> but this is wrangler, not my Jeep Compass. Per the wrangler recall solution: (wranglers with 3. 6-liter v-6 engines, Chrysler says a power steering fluid line can wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. The suvs can leak fluid, damaging automatic transmissions. Dealers will inspect the lines for free and replace them or install a protective sleeve. The recall begins in July 2013. ) it's also recalling 221,000 Jeep wranglers worldwide from 2012 and 2013 to fix transmission fluid leaks, according to documents posted Thursday on the national highway traffic safety administration website. I am frustrated because my 3 year warranty just ended last month Aug. 2014. I researched on the internet and read a lot of other people encountering the same issue.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2014

Transmission oil lights always come on when car drives over 70 mph at least 2 hrs in hot weather. Then car slow down and I have to pull over to let it cool off. It will do it 3-4 times during a long trip. It does every summer and the Jeep dealer never found the problem.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

The tire pressure monitors are sending false information to the computer. Dealer is not able to find problem or correct. It is a safety issue because it is giving false information to the driver and he/she may be driving with a tire that is not properly inflated.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

Noticed a grinding sound in the front end of the Jeep. Told dealership when I took the vehicle in for oil change. They replaced the lower control arms thinking that was the problem. Before leaving I could still hear the noise. Maintenance tech rode with me and narrowed it down to the gas pedal. At low speed (3-10 mph) when pressing/releasing the foot feet you heard the grinding. Told me to bring the vehicle back later. Not sure what actions they took at the bring back but they knew it didn't correct the problem. Told me they were contacting Jeep for information and there was another vehicle with the same problem. Contacted the dealership again and was told they were going to try were going to try something on the other vehicle since I lived so far away. Contacted them and was told it didn't work. They thought it might be the nature of the beast! they were going to contact Jeep again. After more calls. . . Today frustrated I told them I was not happy at all with the run around. People outside of the Jeep can hear it as I drive though mall parking lots because they look when it makes noise. Planned on getting a new Compass and selling this one to my son for trade in value but have concerns. Talking to others it came up how these other cars that had problems did not recall until so many people died. If I am spending money on a vehicle I will spend it on something that does not grind for an unknown reason. I was told to bring the Jeep in and they would loan me a car so they could work on for the whole day. Set up a day and asked for a number to call Jeep myself. They gave me the customer service number and the lady I talked to there was great. She talked to me, contacted the dealership-talking to the service gal I am dealing with, made another call and then gave me a number to call on Friday when I take the Jeep in with a case number and the website for this.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The exhaust hanger allowed the exhaust to shift up into the bumper causing the rear bumper to melt. I just noticed it has gone up under the tailgate too, causing it to not shut completely. When I am driving it I can smell exhaust coming into the car. I have called several Jeep dealers around our area and am told there is "no recall" and since my car is out of warranty there is nothing they can do to help. I cant drive the car but have to keep paying the payments - I can't afford to do that and I cant sell or trade with it in this condition. . . . Please advise me what other options I have.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Outside temperature 102, driving posted speed limit of 75 mph. After 1 1/2 hours warning light came on saying transmission fluid overheated, the speed automatically dropped to 55 mph. I pulled to the side of the interstate and engine stalled. After 30 minutes engine started. Took to Jeep dealership and they said common problem and they could repair it for $1,000. I said the vehicle is under warranty. They said not covered under warranty. They advised I drive in the middle of the night and make frequent stops to avoid the problem. This has happened 5 times. I have found multiple complaints of the same nature online. I do not understand why this has not been a recall. It is a severe safety problem. I am not young, female and a widow, I do not feel safe driving this car in the middle of the night. I care for my elderly parents and drive 500 miles in arizona every other week to be at their home. My safety is at risk. Please consider opening an investigation relating to this problem.
