1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2024

Attached is a work order request for a defective door handle on my Jeep Compass. The driver side door handle we have determined is wrapped in metal and is delaminating. It has caused a hand injury to my daughter due to the wrapping on the door handle coming apart and being extremely sharp. We have taken the car to our local dealer for inspection and they have verified that this is not normal and we believe the part is defective. Additionally, the passenger side handle is starting to do the same. This is a dangerous defective part and attempts to correspond with Jeep/stellantis have been completely ignored.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2022

While preparing to enter my car today (6/5/2022) I heard a fairly loud popping/exploding sound. I quickly backed away from the car then approached it again and realized the passenger headrest, though attached, had basically split in 2. Upon further inspection I couldn’t see why this had randomly happened as I didn’t have a passenger with me and hadn’t touched it. I tried to force it back together but couldn’t figure out how to get it to move so I left it as is. Later this evening I started searching online for how to fit it back together and it appears this happens frequently especially with Jeeps and is a failure of a safety feature called active headrest. I went back out to look at it and saw exactly what I had seen other drivers mention, there’s 2 teeny tiny pieces of black plastic that apparently keep it from deploying and the right one had cracked. Just lucky that no one was sitting there at the time or that it wasn’t the driver headrest while driving - very unsafe, I can’t even believe a “safety feature” is approved when it’s only withheld by a piece of plastic so small you wouldn’t think twice about discarding it if you found it while opening a toy.

Headrest deploys while no crash has happened.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

Around 80,000 miles my car stopped accelerating and appeared to stay in 1st gear (I drive an automatic). Luckily, I was driving on a residential street. Then the check engine light, the traction light, and a red lightning bolt light turn on. When I took the car to the dealership they diagnosed the car needs a new throttle body, wiring, and a new battery. The battery ended up failing shortly after I brought it into the shop.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2019

Electronic throttle control and electronic stability control indicator lights turn on and vehicle goes into "limp" mode creating the inability to accelerate over 10mph. When pulling out in front of oncoming traffic, the Jeep stalls and then goes into limp mode. Serious safety concern with not being able to accelerate in these scenarios. Has happened ever since the Jeep had 50,000 miles and has continued to the point the vehicle is no longer drivable as of June 2020 (issues began in Jan 2019). Extreme hesitation has occurred when trying to accelerate on an on-ramp also creating a safety hazard as to not get up to the appropriate speed to safely merge with traffic. Cvt transmission began overheating at 55,000 miles, also causing the Jeep to go into limp mode.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

While driving, banging noise from rear and front suspension was heard. Squealing noise (metal on metal) also heard from brakes. Mechanic inspected undercarriage and saw undercarriage was thoroughly rusted which damaged front and rear suspension and brakes. Was informed of danger in driving and advised to get to dealer immediately. Brakes damaged inside to the outside due to rust. All brake system parts were replaced. Mechanic also had to grind away rust to prevent further damage. Mechanic claimed this was the worst amount of rust he had seen in 20 year career. Repairs totaled $784. 44. May also have affected radiator as well. Heat now not working and prestone turns red from rust.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2016

Recurring problem- transmission fluid temperature light has gone on and vehicle slows or stops abrubtly during 1 hour or longer trip on highway. Had the car in Jeep dealer 3 times. Contacted Jeep corporate directly , they didnt return last calls. No progress. Port jeff Jeep dealer (where we purchased 6 months ago) is servicing vehicle. Concerned about the inability to accelerate as problem occurs on highway- sudden drop in speed poses a danger. Dont want to wait till rear endeded. 4 events on 11/19/2016, 11/30/2016 and 12/12/2016.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

Front driver's side exterior side view mirror is a motorized mirror and has a heating element inside the mirror. Something electrical inside the mirror caused enough heat for the mirror to melt and go on fire. The vehicle was parked, unoccupied and not running at the time of the fire.

Hello, 3/4/2015 my brother bought a 2013 Jeep Compass on his birthday of the same year. Over the last few (4-6) months, we have cut our fingers, repeatedly on the chrome covering the doors handles. We are not talking paper cuts nor are we describing emergency room visits, we are describing a very deep and open slice, mostly to the nerves of our finger tips, causing me to miss work. Furthermore, I have a compromised immune system (hiv) & my bodies ability to repair and heal is much longer than others. My most recent injury has cause dangerous complications with a high fever, leading to a very stressful mental and physical well being. I thought I would mention this to everyone, only because I was indeed, in need of a Compassionate csr, instead I was brushed off with a case number and a suggestion to repair the handles and any out of pocket expense, would be reimbursed. I've made attempt after attempt and no one with Chrysler has ever kept their word to call me back. . . . . . . . . . . . Well, it did not take very long ( the very next day), that I sliced another finger causing another traumatic attack on my nervous system, mostly because prescribed blood thinners and bleeding wounds are very frightening and not easy to control. I'm afraid to say, I feel, I've been taken advantage. . . . . . . . . . . In my case, however, this was not my greatest disappointment, but trying to communicate with customer service has been. I hope that my influence can prepare other consumers with their complaints to be patient and steadfast in documenting all discussions with names, dates and times. More importantly research very carefully your next automobile purchase. Great mpg are not the only necessitates of buying a vehicle. Be absolutely, sure that you can trust in the manufacturer and their reputation. Good day all, mjr forest falls, CA.
