36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

My dash lights will dim automatically during day and can’t dim dash lights at night very frustrating.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2023

I have had my Jeep for 13 months and suddenly the digital cluster display on the dashboard and the uconnect tablet are so dim that during the day they are unable to be seen. I am unable to see my fuel gauge, or any vehicle warning icons that may appear. This is a huge safety issue. I am also unable to use the onboard navigation with the uconnect tablet which is one of the things that I love about my Jeep. I took it to the dealership and they showed me a Jeep bulletin dated September/2022 addressing this issue (case number:s2208000157) stating "engineering is investigating a service solution" and was informed that there is currently no fix for this problem even though it is very common in the 2022 Jeep Compass. This is unacceptable.

The failure mileage was 15,000.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2023

While driving down the radio, my infotainment system began flashing on and off, failing to properly load. This can cause a distraction in the vehicle, leading to an accident. The dealer stated could not duplicate.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2023

Upon start up of my vehicle I noticed my center display for speed, etc had turned itself to spanish, but my radio was still in english. My forward collision warning, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, and front collision avoidance had all turned themselves off, and my auto park brake had turned itself on. After contacting a dealer they stated they had several complaints and to just turn them back on/off. Having these safety features turn themselves off can provide a fall sense of safety and cause accidents.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the instrument panel and display screen was very dim, reducing driver visibility. The contact stated that there was condensation built up around the windows during rainy weather, causing an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the condensation reduced the visibility while driving. The contact called the dealer and scheduled an appointment. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that on various occasions while driving during the daytime, the instrument panel failed to illuminate properly for the contact to see the gauges. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated, and the contact was informed that the instrument panel lighting could be adjusted. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 23v058000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2023

My instrument cluster has went dark. It stays in dark mode during the day. I am unable to visually see my speed while I’m driving. My aeb system is also having issues. I have tried to remedy this at the dealership, but they say there is no resolution.

Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 23v058000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

During the day the the instrument cluster that has a speedometer doesn't have any brightness so I cannot see the speed or warning lights. I took my car to the dealership and they said there is no solution to that problem right now and multiple vehicles have the same issue since September last year.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

The digital display that appears dim during daylight and full sun, rendering the fuel gauge, cruise control, and safety features useless during the day.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2023

My infotainment screen and middle of my instrument cluster on the dash will not brighten during the day therefore I cannot see anything on either things. I have tried going into the settings, choosing manual settings to adjust the brightness but it is grayed out and not allowing me to make any changes.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2023

The dash lighting and radio are not dimmable, nearly impossible to see in bright daylight. Radio flashes on and off. Freezes up. Screens and input changes intermittently. The lights are sometimes too dark to see at night and dimmer switches don't do anything. I have had numerous problems with the electrical issues with this vehicle. There needs to be an investigation or recall for these issues. They get fixed at the dealership, only to return. Lastly, the defroster won't turn off. Heat is directed through the defroster and rear center stack when only on floor mode. Dealer says they fixed it and operating normally, but it isn't. Just too many issues with this vehicle. Seems to all be electrical in nature.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2023

Vehicle is stuck in night mode.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

The Compass has been stuck in “night mode,” cannot adjust the navigation panel or more importantly, the dashboard. I cannot see the dashboard in daylight, not able to see mph, any warnings etc. I see there is a recall but my car is not listed. I took it to the dealer in mid March 2023 and they said there was nothing they could do. Please help! I purchased this vehicle used and the issue was present.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while starting the vehicle the instruments panel light was not illuminating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer that stated that the vehicle was experiencing similar failure as 23v058000 (electrical system) but that the VIN was not included under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated to contact the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was 14,000.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2023

The dashboard screen and main screen have been stuck in night mode for months. This makes driving during daytime hours extremely difficult because the dashboard screen cannot be seen. This screen includes, but is not limited to, speed, tire pressure, lame departure warning, and temperature. The vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times and the manufacturer has been contacted. The problem has been known to the manufacturer since at least November 2022. A recalled was issued describing these problems. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall and while my dealer received permission to order the parts, the parts are still not even available to perform the repair and there is no eta on when they will be ready.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2023

I have two issues with my vehicle. The first is the lighting on the instrument panel. As of February 7, 2023, the center display in my vehicle appears to be stuck in night mode, resulting in an inability to see the fuel gauge or warning lights during daylight hours. I have taken it to my dealer to report the issue, and they said that is a known issue with 2022 Jeep Compasses but they are not aware of how to fix it. The service technician agreed that it would be hard to deal with and dangerous to drive. I have hence found the recall information on the on the NHTSA site, but when I enter my VIN number, it says there is no recall for my vehicle. The second issue is that the forward collision warning light is constantly on. When I go into the vehicle settings, it sometimes shows that the forward collision system is on, but the warning light is on, so it's unclear to me whether the system is on or not, which is also not a safe situation. I noticed the issue intermittently in 2022 and reported it to my dealer in February of 2023 but they were not able to fix it.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2023

My instrument cluster/dashboard glitched and became stuck in night mode. Whenever I would drive during daytime hours it became impossible to see my radio screen along with my speedometer since it's all a screen. Because of this I can barely see my speed or fuel level or any alerts along with not being able to see my gps screen. I brought it to the dealer and they have no fix for it yet so it's been sitting at the dealership over a month. I am currently trying to get Jeep to buy the car back from me. Thank you!.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

Forward collision sensor kept turning itself off, now my vehicle is telling me to service my headlights, 4wd, airbags and other sensors. Vehicle has also turned off while driving and deployed the aeb when driving. Have taken it to the dealership twice. Dealer contacted the manufacture which they were unable to determine the issue.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the vehicle was designed with the auto stop/start feature. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the feature engaged and the engine was turned off; however, the engine failed to restart while attempting to drive from the complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the body control module (bcm) was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact later received a call from the manufacturer advising him to take the vehicle back to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with by the remote assistance of Jeep engineers, and it was determined that the batteries had low-capacities. The dealer replaced the batteries. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 10,447.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2023

Please see uploaded documents for a personal account of all issues on the 2022 Jeep Compass. Yes, it is available for inspection. No warning indications prior to incidents. I went to dealership & they are aware of issues with the mechanical & electrical system, however they did not offer any resolution. No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else. The issues began within a few days of being bought on 9/12/22. The incidents are random, ongoing, and increasing. No, the issues have not been reproduced or confirmed by anyone. I live 2 hrs from the dealership, however I have made numerous trips to them & on 1/24/23 did make them aware of the problems in writing. I have tried returning the vehicle on several occasions. No one would work with me, return phone calls or emails. They did agreed to a trade but with a $10,000 charge for trading this vehicle in for another one just like it but cheaper cash price of $32,595. That was 9/22/2022, 10 days after signing the contract. However I have been calling & email the salesman & business manager from day one. I am convinced they sold me a lemon & are preditory lenders considering how they have treated me. The salesman tore the window sticker off the Jeep, waded it up & threw it away the night it was bough. He also did not give me my trade in license plate, or my extra key fob to the new vehicle. I have since gotten the key fob on a trip there. The license plate is gone. I have called & went by numerous times with no one willing to work with me concerning the Jeep on all situations. I have since learn base msrp is $26,525. My contract was written for $38,864 in total. Cash price was $35,305. They also financed a down payment through a credit card company when told I had no down payment of $3,000, which is a separate payment. I am not sure this is where I complain about preditory lending but I thought it wouldn't hurt to share my situation considering the issues I am having with the physical vehicle.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2023

Vehicle is experiencing the same issue for recall 15a, NHTSA campaign number 23v058000. The instrument panel no longer adjusts its lighting, and remains extremely dim at all times. This is especially detrimental during the hours of daylight. Vehicle is a 2022 Jeep Compass, similar to those under recall 15a, and is not currently listed for the recall. Fca refused to take the complaint until a dealer officially identifies the issue. The local dealership wanted to charge ~$160 for a diagnostic check.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2023

Screens in vehicle have dimmed and are unable to brighten. It’s impossible to see while driving during the day. I have run out of gas on the highway, and almost caused an accident. My vehicle also automatically breaks and sounds an alarm as if I have had a collision, and almost caused another accident from being rear ended. Thankfully, one of the issues has been resolved and the dealership is fixing it (although my VIN number was not included in the recall at this time). I’ve developed a fear of driving on the highway now so be cautious of purchasing until all these issues have been resolved.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2023

Every week of every month since purchasing this car, the electrical system more specifically the forward crash warning system which controls steering and brakes has failed. The system is continually turning off and it has been for repairs where they have replaced the sensors and cameras. No resolution has been made and it’s been now sitting at the dealership since September 1. I’m making payments on a car that can’t be driven. Furthermore every loaner Compass I’ve been given has had the exact same problem no sooner than driving off the lot. The bright light upon system failure is a distraction and the system not working right is a danger to life, limb and property.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2023

2 issues 1 - false positive aeb while driving with no obstacles around on a rural road (speed and mileage below) 2 - backup camera delays, sometimes well into a reverse drive.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

My cluster display has been on dark night mode since January 2023. I purchased the vehicle in April 2022. During the day, I cannot see the cluster display, and have missed gas warning lights, low tire lights, and other emergency lights due to the dimness of the screen. It is a hazard to drive as daylight is longer-- and the navigation screen is also impossible to see during daylight hours. There is no way to brighten either the cluster display or navigation system. The dealership confirmed the issue and instructed me to sit back and wait for an update in January, and there have been no updates yet.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2022

The display, where the speed and other pertinent information is displayed, is in dark or night mode. It is very if not impossible to see during daylight hours. It is very distracting not to be able to see the information that you should be able to this vehicle.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2022

I have 3 issues with my vehicle: 1. Whenever I am in my vehicle for more than 20 minutes the radio starts to fade out and eventually all sound on the vehicle is muted. This happens every time I drive the vehicle for more than 20 minutes an can only be resolved by shutting off the vehicle for an extended period. 2. I was driving on the highway at 65 mph when my car suddenly started braking and nearly caused a rear end collision with the vehicle behind. I tried to continue pressing the accelerator, but the car was not advancing. Fortunately the vehicle did not come to a full stop and I was able to recover. 3. Just the other day my vehicle started to display a light on the dashboard that has warned me that the forward collision warning system is now off. None of the above issues have yet to be inspected by the dealership. I have an appointment on February 3rd. It was very difficult to find a dealership with availability. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. All these problems appeared within the first 5-days of owning the vehicle.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2022

As the vehicle is driven for longer periods of time (over 45 minutes), the instrument panel and control system for the car freezes and slowly fades out on the audio. Once the audio is faded completely it can no longer play the radio, calls or any alerts. The issue continues with freezing the instrument panel and the lane assist, collision warning and pedestrian sensors stop working. This becomes a safety issue as you can no longer use the hands-free device as your car auto-connects via blue tooth. It is also a major issue as the sensors on the vehicle are not dependable for operation. This happens every time you operate the vehicle for longer periods of time.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

I was on the entrance ramp for the freeway and the gas pedal disengaged. I could not accelerate and my car slowed down. A message on the display said to service electronic throttle. This has happened to me twice. My car is barely six months old. I was going 40 mph at the time. Today, I was getting into my car after picking up lunch and as I sat down, the alarm went off for close to 4 minutes. I unlocked and locked the key fob, I started the car and turned it off, and repeated everything about twenty times. I'm in a very public place sitting inside of a car whose alarm won't shut off. . . Anyone could've called the police on me. Someone probably did. The alarm is supposed to shut off at 90 seconds, why didn't it? why have an alarm that won't disengage? when I press the button to disable the auto stop/start, my car will jerk a few times and a message will pop up to service the auto stop/start. This first happened two days after I got the car (less than 100 miles on car) and it's probably happened close to ten times by now. I'm usually going about 30 - 40 mph when this happens.
