It appears to be the body control module that gave out. While driving home in the evening from work, the vehicle stopped accelerating beyond 20 mph. Further, the passenger windows stopped working, as did exterior tail, emergency, and turn signal lights. The dealer was unable to directly confirm that the bcm was the problem, however, it was confirmed the problem was not fuse, battery, or engine related. No inspection of the component or vehicle to date. No warning lamps or messages appeared. It was raining outside, the vehicle started as normal, and moved as normal for approximately five minutes, then suddenly the vehicle stopped accelerating forward placing myself and others in harm's way.

12/16/25 I almost was hit by a mac truck the car kept saying my blind spot was temporarily unavailable and also states auto high beam unavailable service required, in which my screen went black, and the car completely turned off. I took the car into have services on 12/19/25. My car was kept for a week and the service department stated they were unable to created it. My car kept having the service lights come on every day that I drove it. On 12/31/2025, I brought the car in again with a picture of the incident that kept occurring several times on 12/30/25. The service department is stating that they were unable to duplicate the issue, and I picked up my car on 01/09/26. My car continued to have the same problem when I almost home. On 1/11/26, the error message for the blind spot and high beam errors came on 13 times when I was out and about. It seems to happen when making turns, going over small bumps, switching lanes, going around curved ramps, and when picking up speed. I need an email from the corporation to send the video clip to that happened on 01/11/26.

I am submitting this complaint to report a serious and repeated safety-related electrical failure involving my 2023 Jeep Compass. While driving, the vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous electrical malfunction. The windshield wipers activated on their own, both digital screens began flashing uncontrollably with warning messages, headlights and dashboard controls turned on and off without driver input. Most critically, the automatic emergency braking system became disabled while the vehicle was in motion. During the first service visit to an authorized Jeep dealership, I was informed that the body control module (bcm) was not responding, and that multiple vehicle systems showed inactive status and communication failures. The dealership stated they could not identify the root cause. Instead of repairing the issue, the system faults and communication errors were cleared/reset, the battery was replaced “as a precaution,” and the vehicle was released without a confirmed repair. The next day, the same failure occurred again while driving on the highway. The windshield wipers activated randomly, the screen displayed a red warning stripe, multiple system failure messages appeared, and the emergency braking system was disabled at highway speed. This created an extremely dangerous situation. The vehicle behaved unpredictably, critical safety systems were unavailable, and I could have been involved in a serious or fatal accident, putting my life and the safety of others at risk. Thankfully, my children were not in the vehicle at that time. Due to the severity of the malfunction, the vehicle was unsafe to operate and required towing back to the dealership. The issue remains unresolved. This appears to involve a serious defect with the body control module (bcm), vehicle communication systems, and possible wiring or grounding faults, which directly affect vehicle safety and warrant investigation.

Vehicle started show multiple errors on dash from blind spot not working , lane assist not working, aeb need to be checked, rear brake light not working, turn signal not work, lane assist not working and other errors. Went to dealership for these errors where they repaired a faulty sensor on the front for the lane assist and from collision. Said it was fixed. . . It was not. Within a hour leaving the dealership, if you pressed to turn off the power save button for when the vehicle when it comes to a stop and not idle, the errors all pop up one after another. . They did not correct any of the errors. I check back lighting and they are on and working but errors say they aren't. Front collison day is it not on but it works and alarms a sound. This is dangerous and if it will have dangerous outcome given it would not correct. Also was receiving notification. To pay into a program for future problem the moment it started again (I paid for extra coverage at signing) I don't know if it's electrical, auto start stop, the lights or something else. Car is barely 2 years old with less than 10,000 mi on it (straight for dealership). Dealership do not clear codes or correct the errors no matter me mentioning them to them.

My driver's side headlights stops working intermittently. This occurs quite randomly. I have replaced the bulbs, the switch, and after taking it to a dealer, I ended up replacing the driver's side headlight assembly. Nothing has worked, and now I am hundreds of dollars poorer for my trouble. This is clearly a safety issue, and judging from what I have seen in online forums, there are a great many others with the same problem. This is a safety issue that falls squarely on the manufacturer to remedy, and to compensate its customers for our losses.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that when the vehicle was parked at a store front in the evening, both headlights were operational. The contact returned and restarted the vehicle; however, the driver's side headlight was inoperable. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the headlight and the electrical connectors and harness had melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that after the headlight failure, the vehicle was difficult to start one morning. The contact stated that the instrument cluster and the overhead map lights were flashing off and on. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

On [xxx], a rental vehicle issued by enterprise was stopped due to an expired north carolina license plate [xxx] ) and a defective taillight. The expired plate was physically affixed to the Jeep Compass at the time of rental, yet enterprise’s rental receipt showed a different plate number [xxx] ). This discrepancy was never disclosed before the stop and was repeatedly denied by enterprise staff for months. Multiple enterprise representatives—including the branch manager where the vehicle was rented—insisted the Jeep had “only ever” had the [xxx] plate in their system, despite the north carolina plate being listed on the signed rental agreement and cited by law enforcement. Later, enterprise claimed the vehicle was re-registered in another state after impound, which altered internal records. This retroactive change created a misleading paper trail that misrepresented the actual tag on the vehicle during the rental period. The expired plate and defective taillight directly triggered a law-enforcement stop, exposing the authorized driver to legal risk, arrest, and vehicle seizure. This unsafe condition should have been identified and corrected before releasing the vehicle, per standard fleet-safety procedures. After impound, personal property left in the vehicle—including electronics—was denied by enterprise staff as ever existing, despite multiple third-party witnesses confirming its presence. One electronic item was later tracked via gps to a private residence unrelated to any enterprise location, after which it was abruptly “found. ” other property remains missing. Failure to ensure vehicle roadworthiness, improper record-keeping that concealed the true plate assignment, and mishandling of customer property after impound. Headlights work intermittently. Driver side comes on but passenger side doesn’t or vise versa. Also sometimes neither come on. No warning messages or anything. Yes the Jeep dealership saw the issue with the lights and so did an independent mechanic.
All vehicles with daytime running lights (drls) that are configured in a manner to illuminate the primary low beam or high beam headlamps, or a significant output of an led source are a danger to other vehicles at night if they are too bright. Vehicles with the above characteristics put drivers at risk as the operator of that vehicle assumes they have their lights on due to the amount of light they can see, but the taillights are not illuminated in any fashion. There are no active or passive warnings to the operators that they have no lights on. They assume that because they can see, others can see them but that is not the case in most instances. The drivers themselves, in newer cars at least with digital information displays, are often seen with brightly illuminated dashboards hindering their own visibility because the car believes it is daylight, and has all internal brightness settings to max to ensure visibility. The easiest proposal for remediation is a mass recall and software update by the manufacturers to these vehicles where the drl function is replaced by using a low output light on all directions, similar to parking lights (where the brake lights are in a dim setting similar to being on, and the front turn signals are in a dim setting) thus increasing daytime visibility still, while also having rear-facing safety for themselves and other drivers. This is of course, not limited to the 2022 Jeep Compass, but all brands, and a large percentage of vehicles form the last decade. More and more drivers are not familiar with their vehicles, and as automated settings for headlamp control advances, drivers are no longer familiar with the standardized symbols indicated the difference between parking lights, low beams, and fog lamps. See attached photos for 3 examples from three different manufacturers. I see several daily on my way to work in boston, and numerous drivers flashing their highbeams at the unilluminated vehicle, in an attempt to alert them.
The vehicle is a 2018 Jeep Compass limited with the VIN [xxx] ####. I purchased it used on [xxx]. On [xxx], I noticed a problem with the headlights. They have been flickering between both headlights almost daily since then. On [xxx], both headlights were out, and I needed to drive at night. After about half a mile, the passenger headlight turned on, and after another half mile, the driver’s headlight came on. I’ve attached photos taken on October [xxx] and [xxx] to illustrate the issue. It’s a serious safety concern. This is just one of several dozen reports of the same problem. The manufacturer must be informed about this issue and initiate a recall once they have a solution to ensure that the headlights remain on when they’re supposed to. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I just bought this used 2020 Jeep Compass 2 October 2024. Lots of water in passenger side rear reverse light assembly, part number 68517558aa. It does not evaporate or disappear, the water is always inside the light assembly part number 68517558aa.

The digital dashboard lights automatically dim instead of brighten at night so I'm unable to see the speedometer and other instrumentation on the dashboard. I had my vehicle serviced during a recall for this and it fixed it but the problem has reoccurred. This is extremely dangerous because I cannot see the dashboard at night.
At night, the light sensors cause the gps map screen to flash from dark mode to bright white screen when passing under street lights. Car is available for inspection. This is a safety factor in that the bright white lights flashing in the driver's eyes in the dark is very dangerous and distracting. The safety of my passengers, myself and surrounding vehicles was put at risk when driving in the dark with the gps screen flashing from black to blinding white under the street/freeway lights. I almost had an accident due to this problem and had to throw a towel over the screen to get home safely. Car has been back to dealership four times with no resolution or repair. No warning lights or messages, the same thing happens every time when driving at night. At this time 10/3/24, the dealership Jeep service manager (al serra Jeep, grand blanc, mi) is in email contact with star (Chrysler's tech team) to find resolution to this problem, which they believe may be a software issue and light sensor problem in the design of the vehicle's communication system. There are potentially many other vehicles that had the same software uploaded and their cars are operating in the same unsafe manner.
The electrical system and start/stop system has went blizzark and began loosing power going in and out of limp mode the headlights no longer work on one side and high beam isn't bright anymore I've replaced the auxiliary battery and the normal battery has begun to short circuit and cannot decide if it's full charged or down to 8volts when their began happening it was during a rainstorm and I was left stalled in mid intersection . . . . Even a jump wouldn't fix the problem. I had it towed to my dealership where the mechanics were unable to diagnose the problem but did get it to happen again going down the highway they then also had it towed back to the shop and replaced the auxiliary battery it didn't happen again until 3 months later now it's getting worse each day I will replace the battery but then I'd like to have my electrical problems looked into but I have read many 9the people having the same issues even after the recall of an electrical chip and I wander if it shouldn't also. Be replaced a second time.
The touchscreen started flashing off and on and the dash lights also turn off and on. The lane assist and fuel warning pop up even when there is ample fuel. The blinkers do not respond when it is glitching and the high beam/ low beam light disappears on the dash. I have taken it to the dealer twice and they said their were multiple codes triggered in the touch screen/radio and they cleared the codes but it started doing this again a few days later. The 2nd time they downloaded an update to uconnect system, I have reset the uconnect system back to default and remived all paired devices and even just turned off the entire radio but it continues to effect the dash lights and also effects the inside temperature which gets stuck. The dealer said they will have to find time to try to figure it out and I do not even have an appointment scheduled yet and they don't seem confident about a solution. I have looked online and have seen many people with uconnect having these issues and it does not seem safe due to not being able to see the dash at night in particular and the blinkers being effected. I am not sure if they still blink on the outside of the vehicle.
Low and high beams. Come on at intermediate times sometimes the passenger side will be on and there will be no driver side. Sometimes they will not come on at all. No matter how many turns you turn the light or flick. The switch I've replaced both headlights and the ballasters. Still to no avail. They do not work all the time.
1. When I come to a stop my car jolts forward hard like I was hit from behind. 2. Issue is the lighting display is very dim during the day time once in a while randomly dims making it difficult to see my speed. 3. My radio panel shuts off randomly. 4. Auto collision detector is off .
We realized a headlight malfunction where the headlights randomly and intermittently turn off. Sometimes they both work, sometimes one or the other works. A year ago, we seemed to notice a headlight go out, then they both worked. It happened again, so we replaced the bulb. Just last night, my wife happened to be following me home at night and her right headlight wouldn't turn on. In the middle of driving, both headlights went out. Then, shortly after, her left headlight went out and the right one came back on. I searched Jeep forums and discovered this is actually a very common problem and is not unique. This is an extremely hard issue to recognize due to the intermittent nature and poses a serious safety hazard driving at night. Given that it is obvious (took me 5 minutes) to realize there were countless other Jeep Compass owners having the issue, and the fact that headlights are a serious safety issue, I strongly recommend the NHTSA take a look into the issue. If you have any inspectors in the dallas fort-worth area that would like to inspect this vehicle, please let me know.
Fog lights go off and on by themselves at times. Forward collision warning continues to trigger and have to be reset. Automatic braking has engaged several times without reason.
Passenger air bag fault randomly causes warning light. Tipm causing headlights to randomly shut off and flicker when driving at night. Both high and low beams. Randomly affects passenger and drivers headlights at different times, sometimes shutting off all lighting completely for a couple of seconds.

Head light problem lights not working took to dealership brought a new headlight assembly that didn’t fix the problem waited 7 hours they still couldn’t fix the problem took vehicle home I replaced a fuse, relay, and bulb that fix the problem . Six months later the same problem headlight please look in to this , need to be recalled.
The gear selection lights near the gear shift go on and off for no apparent reason. I can not see which gear I am in at night. I am afraid that this is indicative of a more serious electrical problem. I am still under warranty because I purchased added care plus from directly from Jeep that covers me through the end of December 2024. I took the vehicle to Jeep dealer ch urness motors in the dalles, oregon. The owner and service manager told me that my car "is not broken enough" for them to repair. The owner, tim urness, stated that they only repair items with warning lights and that they do not honor the added care plus warranties sold by Jeep dealers unless they've sold it. Additionally, my auto stop start battery is malfunctioning, and the engine is making a strange noise. Stellains Jeep cares is not responding to my calls concerning the warranty or getting the car towed to a different dealer for service. I live in a rural area, so I will need to travel 200 miles round trip to have my car serviced and I have been advised that I will need to make the trip at least twice to have the car first diagnosed, then serviced. I know that NHTSA does not normally handle these sorts of problems, but it is a safety issue, also I would like direction on where to report the dealership and stellantis for not making necessary safety repairs covered under warranty. I had a previous issue with the same car's seatbelt webbing and had to fight to get the repair made. Thank you.
I was getting my car serviced, I was getting a state inspection the mechanic told me they could not inspect the vehicle due to the fact that a headlight was not working. . They tried replacing the headlight it still did not work. . I had to leave without getting my vehicle inspected!! I was going to try to take it to the dealer to try and get it fixed. . I checked on line and found several other Jeep owners of this make and model also 2018 Jeep Compass had electrical problems involving the headlights. . At times I would turn vehicle on and both lights would be on. On other times only one headlight would be working. Some times if I would cycle thru the switch both lights would come on, other times not. . This is unsafe driving around with one headlight and not knowing when it will happen. I have spoken to both dealerships in the area, and they are no help. . They want me to bring vehicle in to troubleshoot the problem openended I do not have the money for this and since it is happening to other people with this particular year and make vehicle I think it is a problem that should be looked into. . By Jeep! this just started on my vehicle when the mileage reached approximately 32,000 miles I have owned this vehicle since 2019. Thanks for any help available. .
The auto dim feature does not work, the display and dash lights stay bright even at night when its set to auto mode. Making it very destracting and blinding at night. A recall update has been performed on 11/17 but it did not fix the issue.
Head lights not working.
The driver side headlight went out approximately 8 months after purchasing the vehicle used which was out of the 6 months that the dealer had a warranty. I have replaced the headlight and ballast and it is still not working properly. I have checked and confirmed voltage by testing the driver side against the passenger side which does work and all voltages match going into the rear plug of the headlight assembly. Looking on forums, I am not the only individual with this problem and the dealership wants to charge $170. 00 dollars to run a diagnostic. This problem is certainly not due to lack of preventative maintenance, this appears to be a defect in the vehicle itself.
Let me start by saying I am an electrician. I have had several electrical problems with this car, most recently my headlights come on intermittently. I start my car and turn the headlight switch on, sometimes it takes up to 20 minutes for them to kick on. I have checked the batteries, the fuses, the grounding connections, and the switch. This is very dangerous, and I have already spent money trying to fix the problem to no avail. I travel a lot and it's frightening when it gets dark and I have to switch the headlights on while driving. I have no way of knowing if they are working while I'm on the road. I see several other people complaing of the same exact problem, why hasn't a recall been issued?.

My 2023 Compass instrument panel and center display panel flashes erratically at night when passing under overhead street lighting. It is very distracting and dangerous, causing visibility issues. Driving speed does not matter. The auto/manual choices in the vehicle settings do not seem to matter. I was told my vehicle was not part of the recent related recall, but I see other complaints exactly like mine by other owners on the internet. The us customer care group at Jeep does not wish to acknowledge that this is an issue.
The headlights do not work reliably. The first time this happened was in June but seemingly resolved itself until this last week. Sometimes the passenger side only works, sometimes the driver side only, sometimes neither side. They will come on and go off or only one will come on or go off as they please. There is no pattern or rhyme or reason. There are no warning lights; in fact, the car says lights on, the symbol for the high beams shows as on when I pull or push forward, but neither is. This has not been inspected yet but will be shortly. There are several complaints online about this intermittent headlight issue. Even after relays, ballasts, and fuses have been changed. The car is only 5 years old, the last thing I should be worrying about is the headlights.
Intermittent issue occurs where my radio screen looses power or displays code error please restart system, blinkers stop working, thermometer on display shows 2 dashes, climate controls stop working, hazards won’t work, directional buttons on steering wheel and ok button do not work to change display on dash. All of these happen at same time intermittently.
Headlights come on sometimes sometime, other times driver will come and passanger side won't, or passanger side will come on and driver side will not. Seems to be some sort of issue other then headlights because when they do work they seem to work fine but randomly one or the other does not work. Makes it unsafe to drive at night and worry that if we are out for a late drive we may randomly end up with no headlights at all.
Dear representative, my 2022 Jeep Compass has a recall related to the brightness level of display. According to manufacturer's claim, the brightness on the instrument panel center cluster needs to be adjustable to provide at least two levels of brightness. Based on this problem, safety risk is defined as "an ipc display that is not visible to the driver may result in the driver's attention being distracted from the driving task while trying to locate a desired display, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. " in your website. It seems the safety risk is related to the low brightness level of the display. When it comes to my car, the brightness is not adjustable. It stays in the highest brightness level. Since the brightness level is at the highest level, it does not cause any safety risk. Please check the pictures I uploaded in this claim. Intentionally, I took these photos during a sunny day which will allow you to see how clear and visible the display due to high brightness level is in one of the extreme condition (I. E. , in a sunny day). Even the brightness level is adjustable, there is no higher level than what the display has now. May I request you to remove the recall on my car? thank you.
While driving, my dash went out completely. I can’t see how fast I’m going, or any information concerning my car.
