Since 20,000 miles I have had problems with my steering column. I first took it in back in August of 2023 due to a clunking noise coming from my steering wheel. When I first took it in my suspension was tightened but this did not resolve the issue. When I took it back in a week later I was told I needed to replace my rack and pinion. The rack and pinion was replaced but my car still had the faint clunking sound. The clunking came back a year later. At 30,000 miles I was told both of my front axles had failed and both were replaced. The clunking sound still remained but faint. Seven months later the clunking returned once again and much more aggressively (I was out of warranty at this point). I was told one of my axles failed once again prematurely and was replaced after sitting for nearly a month. When I got my car back after nearly 4 weeks I noticed the exact same aggressive clunking noise in my steering column. I returned my car back a week later for a new diagnosis after speaking with the service manager. The report came back stating that both of my lower control arms went bad and needed to be replaced. Also discovered was a bad intermediate shaft causing the clunking noise. The dealership decided to goodwill the service to fix my lower control arms since it was a dangerous situation to drive in and I had been driving my car like this for 20,000 miles since I originally took the car in. The dealership says they can not do anything about the intermediate shaft which could cause me to lose all steering abilities and cause a serious car accident. I no longer feel safe in this car and 100% believe this car is a lemon.

Increased a 2022 Jeep Compass with 25500 miles and was almost $25. 000. 00 from carvana based out of atlanta and tempe az. My daughter was so excited as it was delivered by carvana and about 2 hours after it was delivered to her she drove it onto the highway and as soon as she drove it on the highway at about 50 miles per hour it rattled so violently and pulled right like the vehicle was about to fall apart. So frantically and scared and crying was able to limp it to the side of the highway and called me and called carvana & took almost 2 hours to get someone live other than robots chat things. She was told by carvana to take it to pep boys. With no apology or a bit of concern for her safety said nothing or even apologized. A criminal company. So the service manager said that he could not believe that a so called 150 point inspection that the most important system for safety on a vehicle being the braking system. The rotors were bad and warped. They were never turned or replaced. He said they took a horrible and risky and illegal repair at carvana with just putting new brake pads on damaged rotors and a badly worn tire and never balanced any of the tires and all were terribly out of balance and alignment was so far off specs he was upset she could even drive it down the street so this is unacceptable and unsafe and I hope this criminal company can be fined and sued and made an example out of. I will be contacting the media in atlanta, georgia and tempe, arizona as well as the local newspapers & news channels on your side for investigations. Also I will notify the organizations I belong to after serving in iraq and [xxx] being the reason I could not go see it as it was delivered as they don’t allow test drives or inspection by customer before delivery so we rely on these crooked people to make sure 150 point inspection of nothing. But being a [xxx] I will contact the [xxx] & american legion & vfw as social media. [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(.
When driving my Jeep Compass, there have been numerous instances of the vehicle stalling out when slowing down or stopping at a light/stop sign. This has happened on busy roads, at busy intersections, and on country roads. When it happens, I cannot control any aspect of the vehicle; the breaks no longer work, I cannot turn the wheel, I cannot change gears or easily put it into park, and it takes multiple attempts to turn it off and back on. There are no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the incidents occurring, which started on 4/22/2025. Today, 4/29/2025, I checked my oil level and found that it was extremely low, although it should not be and I'm not yet due for an oil change. The Jeep Compass is going through more oil than usual and there is no message or notification showing at any time. I believe that this is the cause of the issues, and makes it extremely unsafe for myself, my passenger and other drivers/vehicles as it has happened on the highway and at intersections, where it could easily result in a serious accident.

I was driving down the road going about 40mph. The car stopped abruptly and displayer low coolant warning. Car would not restart. I towed it to a local mechanic who replaced the auxiliary battery. Car has been working and hasn't shut off but warning lights sometimes pop up for a split second. I'm worried it's going to happen again while driving.

Car starts fine. After the car gets up to operating team the car will just stop running, very dangerous in traffic as it cannot be sterred or hardly stopped. The lightning bolt symbol appears on dash then car just dies. I replaced 2 camshaft position sensors and 1 connector. Car was fine for 2 weeks then started acting even crazier. I scan obd2 but get no codes.

I am having a persistent issue with this vehicle involving the lane keep assist and pedestrian collision sensor. This issue has been present since purchasing the vehicle in December of 2021. I have had it in to two separate dealers a total of 6 times with no solution yet. The issue occurs when traveling down the road above 35 with the active lane assist enabled. Intermittently the vehicle will act as if there is a significant steering misalignment and the vehicle will attempt to pull you out of your lane into other lanes and you have to fight the steering assist in order to not depart your lane. Some times with the issue the car will throw a code stating "active lane management (alm) unavailable service required" and turn the alm off. The dash light will stay illuminated until the next key cycle and then disappear. The other issue with this system occurs when taking a 90 degree turn. The vehicle will throw the same error message and turn off the alm and intermittently with also disable the pedestrian collision avoidance system which will remain off until I go into the settings and turn it back on. The dealerships have replaced the bcm, steering wheel, and steering wheel control module. There have been no actual solutions provided and this issue remains active. I do not want this to cause an accident one day when the issue occurs and the driver is unable to correct the vehicles mistake.
My car shut off and wouldn’t start it said the asc failed I took it to the dealership they did a diagnostic test said my aux battery level was low need replaced I replaced that my engine light is still on I have to put it on a battery charger everyday so I can go to work then it wouldn’t start at work I needed someone to give me a jump it’s stills said I needed mine esc service and it saying my temperature is too high it only has 58. 884 miles on it I wish I never got this Jeep I bought it brand new and I had to replace both front tire rod ends I’m beyond upset it also said my car was not in park when it was it wouldnt start I overrided the gear shift but it still wouldn’t start.
The steering has a very sharp plastic that can make cut to the hands while driving and cause an accident. It looks like the finish of the plastic was not done correctly so when you touch those two molding it feels sharp. Maybe the pictures does not show but definitely needs to be checked with someone put their hands on the wheel on the side steering wheel.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The coolant temperature warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated the steering wheel seized and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the failure could not be replicated. The local dealer informed the contact that the coolant temperature warning light was inaccurately illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,800.

Rust thru/failure of the front cross member subframe. I noticed a clicking/rubing sound coming from the front of my 2011 Jeep Compass. Over several days it got worse. I took the car to the same dealership that I bought the car from new and was told it was a rust thru on the subframe and that the car was not safe to drive. At this point there were no warning lights or other indication that the front end was approaching a catastrophic failure. I contacted Jeep and was told that a special 10 year extended warranty had expired in 2022. The dealer offered no help in covering the cost either. I was never informed about the extended warranty, or I would have had the car checked. The thing that really makes me mad is the rust thru occurred on only one side because the a/c drain was routed so it dripped condensation onto the frame on that side. I have the subframe and have included pictures.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while attempting to turn the steering wheel, there was an abnormal vibration with a clicking sound coming from the steering column. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering column had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, envision cdjr west covina (298 n azusa Ave, west covina, CA 91791) who diagnosed that the steering rack had failed and needed to be replaced. The steering rack was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering rack had failed again and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,963.
I was driving into a busy intersection and briefly stopped. When I took my foot off the brake to go, the car completely froze. The brake pedal was hard and the steering wheel was locked. The lights were on, however I couldn't turn the car off to restart it. It would not move. A police officer had to push the car over to the side. After waiting a while (25 minutes) for the tow truck, I was able to turn the car off. The car was towed to the nearest mechanic, but he can't find anything wrong with it. Despite, hundreds of online complaints about this same thing happening to Jeep Compasses, Jeep will not take a look at it unless I pay $490 for a diagnostic test. I already had to pay for the towing and a mechanic to look at it. Jeep Chrysler needs to recall these cars before someone is killed.
I bought my 2016 Jeep Compass latitude in September of 2021 with a warranty which because of some rotor and other issues they gave me a loaner vehicle while they did the repairs for a week or so. It didn't give me too many problems for a while but then in these last two years or so then a lot has been breaking on it or acting up & I only got a little over 86k miles on it, but any warranties are expired at 80k. I've replaced the battery, the rear hub/bearings 2x, all of the rotors & brakes 2x now, I go through engine oil even though I do regular oil changes on it, and most recently it was doing a "death wobble" that was so unsafe I was afraid to drive it myself let alone have my son with me in case it did it & it was very unpredictable when it would happen too, generally over 45 mph and after I had been driving for over 15 minutes would be the most likely time for it, unfortunately not always though & the 1st mechanic I took it too couldn't even get it to do it. The 2nd mechanic suggested changing the driver brake line to the caliper to see if that helped since I'd just replaced that brake caliper but that the majority of my front end suspension, hub/bearing & axle, spring coils, etc. Would all need replaced because of how worn out they was already looking too (it was exactly 86003 miles when I went to the 2nd mechanic) and if it was still doing it after that then he would figure it out, thankfully replacing the brake line seems to have stopped the "death wobble" problem for now. I'm not sure this is even a valid complaint, if not then I apologize but I've never seen so many parts, issues at once, esp. With that mileage. The unpredictable "death wobble" is definitely a safety concern at least & incase others have all these costly problems at once too. I just got my Jeep paid off & have to have cervical & lumbar surgeries ASAP so I will just have to fix it ASAP. Originally, via mopar site, I was here trying to find my Jeep's specific specs/build sheet for those parts.
Since I bought this , he gave me a lot of trouble, I though thay gave me bad car is lemon car, when I went to the dealer it take month to fixe , I though they fixe but nothing happen, right know they have the car and when never someone like diagnostic can fixe the problem, I want to change.
Car continuously shows multiple codes (10+)then won’t shift to neutral or drive and car won’t even turn off. Has happened multiple times with no resolution various codes (dynamic tourque steering, service hill holder , service 4wd, service transmission, anti lock brake system fail, fuel service cut off, u1110, speed control fail, and multiple others.
It is not allowing me to check everything but the bottom line is this. It is highly inappropriate to know that there were three recalls on this vehicle it says 2 were completed there were investigations done and I do not have the ability to view them as a consumer especially whrn I was trying to buy it and now when I am trying to find out if it is related to a problem I am having. I need the full detailed list. I have asked the dealership and not received the documentation, please provide them. Thank you. April king.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds and making turns, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side and passenger's side control arms were fractured, and the inner and outer tie rod had failed. The mechanic determined that the parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
The steering gear has failed and is making a popping noise every time you steer to the left or right. The steering gear has been recalled for certain models but not all, my car has the exact same issue but its not listed on the recall. This problem could lead to loss of steering and a crash per the safety recall v99/NHTSA 19v-637. The car has been inspected by a Jeep dealer and they confirmed the steering gear is the problem. The symptoms have been present for at least a year, and has been getting worse. I am concerned for my safety and I do not have to means to pay for this repair.
I purchased this vehicle not quite a year ago. After about 3 months while turning I noticed a knocking sound coming from the left front of the vehicle while turning. When I was able I took the vehicle back to dealer who stated it was the rack and pinion. I was told by a local mechanic if not repaired it can come a lose cause you to loose control causing accident. After I was told this I researched an found several other Jeep owners had this same problem. My vehicle now has 58k miles on it had only 32k when purchased I did get warranty dealer refused repairs I would like Jeep to investigated because some complaints are not listed with NHTSA seems owners just repair it an move on or just complain ask questions on internet. I feel Jeep should be held responsible an thus should be recalled before someone is killed.
I was traveling northbound on ih35 near exit 329 outside of waco, TX travel to dallas TX I was in the middle of the highway during rainfall when my Jeep completely shut down on me without warning all lights came on radio went black, brake was stiff, steering wheel locked. I had to have my Jeep towed $300 later. My vehicle was in park and the vehicle said not in park. Vehicle wouldn’t start up. I was in the 3rd lane of a 4 lane highway when the vehicle stalled and shit off easily could have gotten hit from oncoming traffic. I was on the side of the road for 5 hours not knowing what was wrong with my vehicle. I had a full tank of gas and fluids were a1. I looked up my VIN with no recalls being shown. Googled the issue and nothing has been done for anyone that has experienced this scary situation.
My 2020 Compass keeps shutting off on its own. I will be driving and next thing you know it will start saying "key has left vehicle " or a different message saying a long the lines of its over heating. After the over heating message, the car will completely turn off on me making it hard to steer out of the road. I somehow have yo make it safely out of the way to turn it off and restart it. Im just scared one day it will happen on the highway when cars are going by so fast and ill end up getting in a collision. No solution to the problem. The dealership doesn't know whats going on or even have a clue as to what to look for. This is definitely a safety issue and im upset because no one knows how to fix it. I spent my hard earned money to get this vehicle only to have it be a safety issue for me and my kids. Its been going on for months already. Sooner or later this car is going to be the reason I get into an accident.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at approximately 60 mph, there was an abnormal clunking sound detected. While turning the steering wheel, the abnormal sound was detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated the failure was due to the rack and pinion. The parts were back ordered. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Compass the contact stated that while the vehicle was idle the engine was running, the vehicle turned off independently. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle returned to normal operation. The contact stated that occasionally, several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while coming to a stop at a drive-through window when the steering wheel began spinning to the left and then to the right without intention made by the driver. The vehicle then suddenly turned right and hit a nearby curb which then made the vehicle turn to the left hitting another curb. The vehicle continued to turn to the left and then right hitting nearby curbs for approximately 4-5 minutes before settling in nearby mulch about 15 feet from the driver through the window causing the vehicle to stop. The air bags did not deploy. There were no warning lights. The vehicle was towed. A police report had not been filed. All the wheels attached to the vehicle, excluding the front-driver side wheel, had blown. There was no damage to any surrounding properties. The contact received injuries to their chest. No medical attention was needed. The dealer was contacted where they were advised to contact the manufacturer. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure where it was confirmed that there were no recalls associated the the VIN. The manufacturer had opened a case regarding the failure. The failure mileage 4,968.
The vehicle has a problem that it will stall out after filling up with gas. The timing of the stall out is such that within a minute or two of leaving the gas station and pulling into traffic, the vehicle will buck and the motor will shut off. When this happens, the vehicle also loses power steering and brakes. This creates an incredibly dangerous situation as the driver essentially has no control any longer. It is a consistent, repeatable problem that occurs every time the vehicle is filled with gas.

Front wheel assembly with broken connection to frame which was caused by a rusted out frame that mechanic said make vehicle extremly dangerous to drive. Front wheels buckled outward. Can't drive car any more.
On my way to work this morning 4:30 ish the same way I always take. My car decided to drive itself, every light on the middle console lit up, and the dashboard. I was going 50 when my car completely lost control while I tapped my brakes no response its locked, my steering wheel locked up, my brakes locked everything went haywire it would not let me steer or even shift to neutral all I could do was pray it stopped while it flipped off the road around 5:14 am with me still trapped inside. My seat belt wouldn't release my doors wouldn't unlock and my windows wouldn't roll down I was trapped breathing in airbag fumes for an hour until help finally came. They had to cut the windshield open to save me. I have no idea what went wrong but I could've died or have been burned to death my car acted like it went under water and not over it. I only had it for three days and I honestly feel like I have been robbed I am a mopar fan however after this I will never be again. No one believed me except for the two truck driver because the car kept trying to drive itself while he was loading it on his truck. Please save someone else I can't be the only one. I was three hours late for work and I'm always an hour early.
Front subframe rusted out due to salt corrosion and as kentucky is not listed as a salt belt state the recall notice went unsent and the consumer was not advised nor were service locations.
While driving at highway speeds, the engine shut off and power steering is disabled. The dashboard says that the car is still on and will not restart the car. This is an extreemly dangerous situation, and my family is lucky to be alive. The problem had been reproduced by christian brother automotive. They have replaced the camshaft sensor as well as the batteries and updated the firmware of the car. The issue continues to persist, and christian brothers will not release the car to me. No the vehicle has not bee inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms presented themself prior to the problem. After about 20 minutes the car is can be restarted and will operate as normal until it automagically cuts out the next time.
While driving, our Jeep suddenly turned off. We had to immediately pull over to get out of traffic. When we tried restarting it would act like it wanted to start but the engine would never actually start, & we noticed the etc dash light was lit. Pulled out the manual, followed the instructions with no luck. My husband got out & opened the hood & noticed a burning smell. That is when we decided to call a tow truck. I had driven the Jeep earlier that day to & from work & for an errand after work with no problems & no warning lights. The vehicle is @ the dealership now, but since we didn't have an appointment I've been told it may take up to 3 weeks before they can get to it.
Car engine shut off at highway speed car lost all power no acceleration / braking / steering this was the first time it happened. No no. As it was happening.
