Eight problems related to front suspension have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2003

Vehicle driven at 60-65mph on freeway, hit several bumps in road. Vehicle front right end began shaking like had a blown out tire. Took vehicle to dealership, checked out, told steering dampner needed replaced. Replaced dampner. Drove 20 miles, same problem occurred.

2 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

Rattling in front end over minor bumps. Shocks already replaced, front-end checks out by mechanic. Also, popping and slipping of front-end into turns at slow speeds and right after a turn. It sounds dangerously like front-end is going to fall apart. I heard it's expensive and everything checks out so I desperately need help before I discard the vehicle altogether.

3 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2000

Something in front of vehicle is causing noise, dealer stated possibly a differential problem, but consumer could drive an additional 6000 miles before needing repairs, however he also stated that it was possible for a defective bearing to freeze while driving. Serpentine belt replaced. Front brakes replaced. Air conditioner does not cool properly, dealer found no leaks.

4 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/05/1999

While driving on highway at approximately 65 mph front end vibrated, causing wheel to move from right to left. Dealer/manufacturer notified.

5 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/16/1998

Consumer experiencing problem with front end. When vehicle exceeds 65 mph on two- wheel drive and 45 mph on four- wheel drive, vehicle would vibrate. Dealer notified, and has inspected vehicle on two occasions. Condition cannot be resolved at this time.

6 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/09/1997

Front axle failed, causing improper alignment and tire failure.

7 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/20/1997

The Jeep pulls to the right. I have had it aligned, no cure. Now one dealer tells me it was "designed" that way. Nonsense. Another dealer at least admitted that they are getting that problem a lot. I see some in your databse already. It is a road hazard because if you ever divert your attention, it immediately wants to go right. I really would like it fixed or be indeminified for it. Thanks, wyman.

8 Front Suspension problem

Front brakes replaced 1 year ago then received recall, winshield washer motor failed, power windows failed. Poor braking and vibration in pedal scraping noise from back end - rear bearings, differential, brakes and rotors need replacement.
