The contact owns a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 55 mph, a warning light illuminated, a chime sounded, and the gas gauge indicated that the vehicle was out of fuel. The gas gauge then went back up, indicating that fuel was present and the warning light dimmed. The weather was sunny and approximately 80 degrees. The contact believes that his vehicle should be included in recall # 97v194000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The current and failure mileages were 25,386.
The fuel gauge system indicator malfunctioned. Always read full tank, even when the tank was empty, the dealer replaced a sensor at consumer's expense of $585. 00.
Nhtsa campaign 97v194000. Daimler Chrysler issued a fuel level sending unit recall. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. Consumer had a difficult time determining how much fuel was in the gas tank.
Consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as mentioned in NHTSA recall 97v19400 concerning fuel gauge system. The fuel tank mounted fuel level sending unit accuracy can degrade overtime, indicating significantly more fuel in reserve than is actually present. Dealer indicated this vehicle had the same problem but was not included in the recall due to VIN.
1997 Jeep cherokee, which was part of gas tank recall in 1998 for failure of float in the gas tank, ran out of gas again on freeway, without any notice. Appears that the lifespan of the float replacement could now be over.

While driving fuel gauge showed the wrong fuel level. This could have caused the consumer to run out of gas without warning. The consumer was having the same problem as stated in recall 97v194000. Dealership would not repair vehicle because the VIN number was not included.
Consumer complained about fuel gauge and fuel tank problems. Fuel gauge indicated that tank was full, when in reality it had no gas. Also, there was recall 97v194000 concerning fuel tank. Manufacturer was contacted, and stated that there was no recall, and there was nothing they could do about it.
While driving at any speed and with no warning fuel gauge indicator will jump around, reading the wrong gas level. Dealer notified. Consumer also stated the vehicle has moved foward when placed in park.
Fuel sending unit is not working properly. While driving vehicle will shut off without any notice.

When making left turn and having a 1/4 tank of gas or less vehicle will stall. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer indicated that sending unit was defective. Please add VIN.

Fuel gauge is no longer reading correctly, it goes from empty to full, etc. There was a recall on fuel sending unit, but this vehicle was not affected.
Fuel gauge is not giving an accurate amount of fuel in the tank. Dealership is aware of the problem. The owner states that the malfunctioning fuel sender should have been part of recall 755 because it is failing again after being replaced.

Fuel level sending unit misreads the amount of fuel in vehicle. A recall has been issued on vehicle ; however, this vehicle was not included due to VIN.
Gasoline meter is not operable. Consumer filled up half of tank with gasoline, and the meter showed a half of tank. But, vehicle stalled because there was no gasoline inside of vehicle. Consumer took vehicle to dealership, and mechanic told her that it was the fuel sending unit wasn't sending gasoline properly.
Consumer had to have fuel sending unit replaced. Please provide additional information. Fuel guage indicates more fuel than actually have, will run out of fuel when guage says 1/4 to 1/2 available.

Rear end went out and vehicle was inoperable. Contacted dealer and wheel bearings were replaced. Rear end has been replaced twice already. Keyless remote failed. Fuel gauge failed. Buzzing noise when unlocking the doors. Transfer case leaking. Rear end makes noise, dealer rebuilt differential. Left front wheel makes noise.

Fuel tank sending unit recall work completed however failed due to replacement unit defective.
Consumer was about 4 miles at 40 mph noticed vehicle was not moving, engine was still on. Turned off, and after 3 minutes started to move again. Drove aprroximately 1 mile. Called dealership, said nothing wrong with gas level, fuel sending unit was not working and fuel was not going into motor. But there was gas in tank, replaced fuel sending unit. Consumer states this caused her loss of time, appointment and money, and a safety hazard.

Dp97-003, the defective gas gauge indicators make the vehicle appear that gas tank has more gas than actually in the tank which could cause vehicle to stall or cause an accident.
While driving vehicle about 40mph, fuel gauge was showing gas when vehicle had stopped suddenly. Had no power. Gas gauge was faulty. Vehicle towed.
