The gas guage does not report more fuel as described in the other recall, but the guage pointer suddenly, at any speed, drops to empty and the guage chimes a warning. This happens when parked, when driving, when idling, when you first start the engine and when you've been driving for hours. It happens repeatedly - the pointer will flop from empty to the proper level up to 30 times within 2 minutes (not an exaggeration). Sometimes, it does not go back to the proper level - I have filled the tank completely, watched it go to e, then driven 25 miles home with the pointer on e the whole time. My husband has a 1998 Jeep gr cherokee and it does the same thing.
